Hope you had a good new years pal. I'm an EPH man myself, rarely had an issue with their controls/connectivity. Their customer service has also been really good whenever i have needed em 👍🏻
Ideally you should be fitting Nest or EPH controls for the boilers that offer Opentherm connectivity... All other brands are On/Off controllers. EPH are the only brand that I am aware of that allow for S Plan + Opentherm control - one of the wireless controllers becomes the master and the 2nd, 3rd & 4th controillers are registered as slaves to that. You can even add a separate temperature sensor controller for HW Cylinder Temp control and still take advantage of Opentherm (for unvented Heat Only Boiler systems) and/or perhaps fit the EPH hot water priority controls. EPH also offer wireless TRV heads that connect to Ember now - they should be at worst the same cost as Nest/Drayton/TADO etc and could possibly be slightly cheaper. In fairness although Wireless TRVs are popular you have to save a LOT of money to recover the cost of purchasing @ £40-£50 each (you probably save around a £3-£5per year which means the payback is 10 years per TRV) Best description of Opentherm controls I saw was comparing to a On/Off versus a Dimmer Light Switch
I installed 17 Tado TRVs and a wireless thermostat for a customer, he was very happy so asked for another thermostat to control his underfloor heating zone as well. Had trouble connecting it so spoke to their technical help and was told they could not control another wireless thermostat on the same account!? Had to put the original stat back in, luckily the customer got a refund for the product. Was not impressed Tado can’t control a second zone valve, thought that would be pretty standard.
I have had so many customers ask for their Tado to be removed due to them calling Tado and having bad experiences when it hasn't performed as advertised. It would be lovely if their support was better and it actually worked more of the time.
Happy new year Pete. I got it off Amazon, just search for folding bucket. Or if you want something a bit more fancy check out Plumb Pal folding buckets. They have a hozelock outlet as well and a submersible pump which you can use to pump the water out as the bucket fills 👌🏾
1. Can’t believe how disgusting people’s houses are, you should ask them to tidy up and make space available pre visit. 2. Had Tado when first came out, Geofencing & learning side of things was fantastic you could just fire and forget, was nice that you could also boost stat for extra hour if you had a late night p. Biggest issue is that schedules are all held in servers so if Broadband or local problems with home WiFi the heating could not be controlled and would remain in last known state. I now have Nest as Installer broke Tado when fitting new boiler, better as Schedules held locally, no bridge on router, downsides are that Geofencing doesn’t work so switched off & you can’t do a boost.
Ah mate, so disappointed. 😢 Ive got Tado in my own home and fitted it for several customers without any issues. Cant find any product that operates all the radiators individually as good. Sounds like their customer service has dropped, to be fair i called them about 4 years ago and they were great.
Yeah I've not had a great experience with them to be fair. This was the first time it worked out the box as it should have. The other similar system I've done is Honeywell home which worked a treat too 👌🏾
The application of a technology which has a dubious impact on running costs and absolutely nothing on boiler efficiency. Basically a scam for those who love apps and don’t understand gas boilers and thermodynamics.
Tado, far too complicated for what it is. Nest or hive is better. Imho tado is german, over engineered, more complicated product that isnt any better than its cheaper alternatives.

Yup likewise EPH are my go to for controls. This was the customer's choice so I gave him a price and he went for it 😉

I prefer Honeywell Evo, they were the first, I believe to launch RF TRV years ago. Great content as always.
Thank you mate. Yeah I done a job with Honeywell Evo and it was so easy 👌🏾

Yeah exactly this!
Hi CP.
Happy new year mate. Just wondered where did you get the flexi drain down bucket from?

I once fit a tado. With rad valves and it was like a Chinese puzzle.. never again
Tell me about it, this one went ok but I'm still not keen on it
