Heel Work: The Importance of Timing
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2021
- Heel work is how to get your dog to walk nicely alongside of you, and not he/she walking you. Heel training is a crucial step and is one of the most important foundational aspects of all dogs, whether they be gun dogs, shed dogs, or just household pets. Teaching a dog to heel will allow you to do so much more with them. We cannot allow the dogs to lead when heeling. We the handler needs to be the leader, and this is established through good heel work and effective corrections and timing.
One of the biggest struggles we see are handlers that can't quite get the timing of when they should be correcting. When doing heel work, you need to be constantly watching your dog so you can make a crisp, timely correction when needed.

Love the videos. Where can I find a list of when your seminars and workshops are being held?
Hey Anthony, not sure if you are following us on Instagram or Facebook but we announce all our seminars and workshops on those platforms. Currently we don't have any more seminars this year, and all of our workshops are held in the spring. We will be announcing those dates in the next month!
Do you travel to Florida for training classes?
That first guy is yank happy. Poor dog. Dogs can’t pick their owners.
totally agree - horrible to watch
Dogs look for structure and guidance. The dog is happy. A dog that lacks structure and guidance is the one that you should feel sorry for.
Do you have an Amazon link for the slip lead, the ones I get are not that good at slipping and releasing pressure?
Hey Don, the lead you see in the video is actually our DogBone Adjustable Leader. You can purchase it from our website here: dogbonehunter.com/estore/dog-obedience-equipment/adjustable-leader-and-heel-work-instructional-bundle
At what age do you start this with a puppy?
Formal work on a lead doesn't typically start until they are 12 plus weeks old, but we will start shaping recall and positioning earlier than that. Check out our "Bella... Be Good" series to see us do just that with a young puppy.

I don't know why you let a sloppy sits happen after a heel. That is very easy to fix.
and you just let it go on???
I think it's to hard of a correction to make a dog sit or turning around when he is just learning.
He is a good dog
The dog hates his owner.
