- Arsene Wenger opted to rest some of his biggest names for this League Cup tie in November 1998, a decision that backfired spectacularly. This was (and still remains) Arsenal's heaviest ever defeat to Chelsea and their heaviest reverse of any kind for 13 years. It was also Chelsea's first victory at Highbury in their last ten attempts. Clive Tyldesley watched the action unfold.

Come on, Before Mourinho came to Chelsea and started the golden era of Chelsea they already had very big names : F. Lampard , J. Terry , Hasselbaenk, Gudjohnsen, Gallas, Makelele, Crespo , Veron, Duff, Babayaro , Cudicini, Joe Cole, Bridge, Gronkjaer , Geremi, Desailly and Zola ... When Mourinho came to Stamford Bridge he signed Cech, Robben , Drogba and brought Carvalho and Ferreira . Hasselbaenk was much better than his replacement Drogba in this first half of 2004-05 season . and you Can't say that Robben was really much better than Gronkjaer at that time. Chelsea glory already started before Mourinho after reaching Champions legue SF.
I remember Chelsea won 5 trophies within 2 years or so in the late 1990s including the cup winners cup against Stuttgart. Chelsea have more European cups than their neighbours before 2004. That proves that the Blues were not just a "humble" team in their history that started in 1905.

It was that loyal support, the success and the obvious potential for more that attracted Abramovic to the great club.

All London club fans of a certain age know Chelsea were a big club with massive away support. As this proves once again Chelsea taking over Highbury. I remember going over there in the late 70s for a League Cup tie and there were more Chelsea in the North Bank than Arsenal.
Arsenal won the league meeting with their first team out 1-0 with Bergkamp netting the winner. I went to both games at Highbury and this was a flipping second string.
Reading the Chelsea fan's comments on here you'd have thought this was the Champions League final
