    Love this! I've noticed a lot of decorators use ganache instead of buttercream on the cake, what did you use? Did you freeze the cake before you put fondant on it? I'm making my son an angry bird cake and would love any tips you could offer. Also I'm using 6 inch ball pans, do you thing your method is better/easier? Thank you!

    • @ashlinky
      @ashlinky  10 років тому

      thank you! I use swiss buttercream, I dont put it in the freezer though, the fridge seems to set it great. I have never used a shaped pan so I wouldn't have a comparison, I just use rounds because it makes baking a whole lot easier!
      Good luck with your Angry Bird and enjoy!

      +Phylicia G She used x2 6'" /x2 8" /x2 6" with a thick covered cardboard center to be able to cut the cake up to half mark when serving. Then you flip it over, using the top (now the bottom of the board) and serve that way - like a princess cake cut.

    Ashling- this cake is amazing! the best basketball i have seen. I am not sure if you will respond since this is an older post but i am attempting a bball cake this week. how did you get the black lines of fondant so flexible and even? i always stretch mine. also, i am making a much smaller version. just using the wilton pan so 2 halfs. should i put dowels i the bottom half and a board in between the 2 halves? please send suggestions. thank you so much in advance

    • @ashlinky
      @ashlinky  8 років тому

      Thanks so much Cheryl!
      I used gym paste rather than fondant. I'm not familiar with the Wilton pans but I would use a board in the centre just to support the widest part of the cake at least

    • @cheryl7505
      @cheryl7505 8 років тому

      Do you think adding tylose to the black fondant would help ? Or would you only suggest gumpaste?

    • @ashlinky
      @ashlinky  8 років тому

      +Cheryl Kutzer I've no idea if I'm honest. From my experience adding tylo to fondant can make it dry and grainy so I don't use it for any detail work

    • @cheryl7505
      @cheryl7505 8 років тому

      That is my experience as well! But I have read so many people use it for figurines and flexibility.
      I really need to start working with gum paste but I have not used it before and need to make this cake in the next 2 days.
      Thank you for your help.
