I remember this and other similar locomotives as new when diesel was replacing steam at a rapid rate. Great to see this wonderful locomotive restored and back in use. Well done to everyone involved.
Brings back memory's of many years working on these at Immingham TMD , your going into detail on these we hardly ever pulled camshafts just replaced individual split cams and can never recall replacing camshaft chain , they always adjusted ok (bloody awkward though) Use to get loads of split exhaust bellows , internal coolant leaks (bottom liner seals) and the occasional piston disasters then conrod batters its way through liner . Watch the free end drive if its got rad fan clutch fitted as that clutch really hammers it when it cuts in (best to disable it ,leave switched in )
I had the pleasure of seeing the new locos leaving Doncaster Plant, after acceptance inspections at Doncaster they were ferried to the WR two at a time, usually the movement was on a Monday evening, the EE3s were attractive locomotives, BR gloss green, yellow and red Timken axleboxes with brightwork around headcode boxes and cab handrails, the painters were expert, the finish was faultless, the best livery for a 37.
This was built half a mile from where I'm sitting, Vulcan Foundry Newton-le-Willows. There's no trace of the Vulcan left, it's now a large housing estate
I remember the Vulcan Works,I thing it was on Victoria Rd,N-le-Willows. I actually delivered building materials to the housing site in question, and remember gazing at that majestic place.Didn't the Rocket have its first trials nearby at Rainhill. ...?
@@paulpugh5315 If you went down Victoria Road it eventually turns into Wargrave Road which eventually ran into the Vulcan Village which was a small estate built for employees of the Vulcan Foundry. My granddad worked at the Vulcan as a pattern maker and retired from there at the tender age of 76 !! Yes, Rocket won the Rainhill Trial which is about 10 miles down the line from here towards Liverpool. If you remember Victoria Road you may have noticed a railway bridge which carried the world's first purpose built line for passengers.
Heading is wrong. It’s actually D6948. Travelled behind it at the WSR diesel gala in 2019. Fantastic locomotive. A credit to everyone involved in the restoration and preservation.
Shouldn’t that be D6948 ?? No only playing, great job on a classic Canton engine, an awesome beast….looking forward to seeing and travelling behind her in the near future…. Top job 👍👍👍😎
Is there any possibility of dialogue to go with the pictures , I’m a little bit mechanical minded but don’t recognise all the parts shown , this is a very interesting video and you have a great team there .
great video and good luck with this loco, i assume the engine oil and filters will be replaced before start up,can you still get parts for the EE engine ?

Love this. Seeing the cam shafts ,valve rockers and timing chains on that big English electric v12 brings back memories.

Swindon works had a similar fate, turned into a shopping mall. :(

yes it was bought from west coast railways who numbered it 37248 but the growler group renumbered it to d6948
Whats trough the little door in the front- like to go in the train nose?.
Where is part 2 and are you going to correct the loco number on the clip id?
originally an eastfield depot loco in north Glasgow with her west highland terrier on the side
Is it me or there's no part 2 on UA-cam? If there is, can anyone give the link please?
