Great video. Tumbleweed is going to tell on these manufacturers. Toyota shouldn't have put the TRD off-road badge on this vehicle. This was a sad performance. Thanks guys
Few years back you took a Hybrid Rav4 up some pretty steep hills and it killed it! So, unless that has changed, I say stick to the advice of buying a Hybrid Rav4 to get that low end torque since they don't have a proper 4L. Bottom line tho, is the TRD Rav4 is just an appearance package. It does not have the DNA like its bigger relatives.
I don't know why Toyota even bothered with a TRD Off-Road trim if they weren't going to clamp the center and/or rear diff in at least one of the modes. The front airdam should be detachable too.
The biggest problem I see here is user error only. Sarah N tuned is a women that review and test cars, I see her testing more valid than most of these reviews because she actually drives the cars like someone would drive them over obstacles with momentum. This guy drives like he’s in 4L the whole time.
I wish Toyota would make something this size that has a proper 4Lo transfer case and 10” of ground clearance. Like a new FJ but smaller and more efficient
I'm not surprised . . . the Tacoma and the Pathfinder are great platforms and small enoguh to work around rocks and trees . . . the RAV4 is a soccer-mom car that, mechanically, can't compete. If you want a pretty, soft-roader CUV TRD, then maybe the RAV4 TRD is for you.
The transition from sharing the $40k price tag to watching it flounder on the log section was pretty brutal. She’s a true mall crawler in a literal sense. Bronco Sport gets my money in this segment.

Let's face it... most people buying a Rav4 won't be off-roading seriously hard. But I have to say, I think it did really great for what it was. Needs more back wheel torque action. Extremely pleased with the rig, except the colour... anything but black was a $600 surcharge here in Canada. So I have black which the trees are autographing...
Rig?
My 2019 rav4 hybrid does amazing offroad
You should probably try this course again with a 1st Generation RAV4, the AWD version with a center locking diff was particularly talented
You went a lot faster through the holes section in the Forester than you did in the RAV4. I think that’s why you ripped the side skirt off.
Patience :)
Needs a v6 and transmission cooler, also don’t call it a TRD Toyota is it can’t offroad the simplest things… come on Toyota
Good for city snow days but not off road
Roller test pleasee
I've taken my 21 Renegade Trailhawk on harder trails. This is very disappointing for that price range.
I would love to see the Bronco Sport on your SUV course. I suspect it will do better than all others.
They did like 4 videos on that
@@Tallnerdyguy But not on their home course.
Kinda disappointed but it’s a nice looking vehicle but I guess it’s a good mall crawler”
I actually don't think that will be great in the snow because there are many times where you need that one wheel to save you on slick surfaces.
There's no reason to buy this over the regular RAV4
Sure if your a Toyota fan boy and love giving them more money.
My question is are people using the "manual" shift option and try it in 2nd gear?
RAV4 was working hard the cooling fan is screaming.
I had a 2019 Camry with the 2.5 it really liked to run the cooling fan even when it wasnt to hot I think thats just a Toyota thing
AC on in low speeds = fan kicks in on 99% of all vehicles.
It was quite hot outside as well.
Most crossovers overheat their transmissions or AWD systems on obstacles like this, but the RAV4 didn’t overheat anything even on a hot day!
The new Rav4's really have a good look to them ... won't replace my 4Runner, but they look pretty nice.
A weedwacker and some weed spray could do the course good I think. Maybe it’d be easier to see the obstacles. Another Good video TFL!
Don't spray a bunch of poison because you don't like weeds
Call that hill blind man’s buff 🤪
Tommy, I give the traditional paint scheme 10/10. It should be available on genuine Toyota 4X4s like 4Runner, Tundra, Sequoia and Taco. The RAV4 to buy is still the Hybrid.
Mini mountain name: Molehill as in mountain out of a molehill?
1000 watt USB port LOL
