    I am headed in the opposite direction. I bought a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro two years ago right after moving to NW Washington. I thought I would be doing longer road stuff with a bit of dirt thrown in living here, but I am actually riding shorter distances, spending more time exploring dirt back country stuff. I am 64 and ride alone where there is no cell signal quite a bit. I am constantly worried about me having to lift my 500 lb + motorcycle by myself. I can do it, but it is not easy, especially in mud or sand. Also, it is more a street bike than dirt, so it has more stuff that breaks or gets scuffed when it goes over. A 701 or 690 will still allow me to do two or three hour road rides and also be a lot freer to roost out in the back country. If I drop it, it won’t cost nearly as much as much to fix it.

      Hey there Woody DuBois and thank you for your comment.
      I absolutely agree with you - riding trails alone on a heavy bike with limited or no mobile coverage might reduce the pleasure of that ride. And to be honest - after selling my 701 and getting 890AdvR, quite quckly I bought the second bike - 2018 CRF250L with basically no milage (less than 1500 miles) just for local weekend offroading. It is much lighter and since this is my 2nd machine, I could use much more offroad oriented tyres on it. So I wonder if this might be an idea for you as well - to keep the Triumph for street riding as this is very comfy and to get something much smaller and lighter for those trail days?
      I loved my 701 and it was a perfect do-it-all machine, but one thing for sure it wasn't comfortable. And having in mind your mentioned age comfort might be an important factor to keep you happy with your bike, I guess.
      Anyways, I always wanted to have just one bike and ride it to the fullest, but I think I am now happier with two..
      All the best from Poland!

    Had the same experience with my 2021 701. 21,000KMs and no issues. I just wanted a bike for longer distances so I settled on the new Africa Twin

      CRF1100L was also on my list. I took it for a test ride with DCT and I came to conclusion 890R would suit my current needs better for now. And I like Android Auto using the screen - great progress for TFTs.

    Nice and honest review, have 4th 690/701 bike and about 50k km (had 690/2009,690/2012,701/2018 and now 701/2019) feel the same - not so light like EXC but way more lighter that 2cylinder, off road capable suspension, with mods (fairings+topwer, aux fuel tnak , etc.) it is capable for adventure travelling all around. But I still thinking about adding to my garage some 2cylinder bike for more road and light offorad with more km and more comfort on highways. Rode about 11 000 km in South America on Sertao (650 thumper) and even if I like gravel road it was something like 3000km gravel and 8000km on-road so more comfy 2cylinder will be better choice.

      Thank you for your comment, Jan.
      You know what? I sold my 701 for 890AdvR. And I love the KTM, but I missed the lightness of 701... so I got myself a 2018 CRF 250L just for those light rides. Both bikes put a huge smile to my face, but now I know I am able to do both - go into the mud with a light single or hit the road and go a long distance for a week on a twin. So far, it seems to meet all of my needs.
      All the best!

    Think the 701 is hard to replace. I see no other bikes that can do what it can do. Not so well anyway. The 690/700 platform is brilliant
    My suggestion to you. Get another bike for your new needs and keep the 701.
    Don't do as I once did, sold my perfect XR and regretted it immediately

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  11 місяців тому +4

      Great point, thank you!
      The only thing is that keeping two bikes is pricey in Poland (costs of insurance). Besides I have also noticed that when I used to own two bikes (CRF 250 and F850GS) I was barely riding with the GS and that was frustrating for me to see it being covered by dust.
      So I think I am one-bike-man and having two would not work for me :)
      But again, thank you for the comment.

    Sorry to see you part with it. I still live my 2018 701. I agree it’s not really a long distance bike but when it comes to off-road it’s hard to beat.
    I’m guessing your next one will be a Tenere.

    I agree with you, the 701 Enduro is not ideal for highways, when we drove from Lago di Garda to the Czech Republic 750km in one go through German highways, in the rain, it was a rough experience. I have a little over 5000 km on it now, and I love this bike, it's a real unicorn. Few things bother me. Speeds 1 and 2 could be shifted more slowly, it can be changed with the front sprocket, I might try it, but I'm worried that it will be slow for longer road crossings, which I sometimes do and plan to do. The wind protection is also not ideal, I have the original Husqvarna wind sticker, but it is short, and it blows under my helmet, which is annoying. Installing a tower from Rade Garage might improve it (I haven't tested it), but I don't want it, I like the classic where you turn the handlebars and everything else goes. Also, the height of the saddle could be smaller for me, who measures 178 cm, I originally thought about lowering it, but in the end I left it as it is and got used to it. The weight could also be lower, it is debilitating when handling in difficult terrain and falls, but that doesn't have a complete solution, maybe I should get stronger. What else I plan to replace is the exhaust, it gets in the way and is very hot, and even with the cover made by amateurs to prevent the bags from burning, it is not ideal. Have a good ride.

      oh yes, 701 out of factory is just a starting point for so many mods... I know, I've been there.
      And the long highway miles made me switch to 890 Adv R and this one will be put to test in 2024.
      All the best from Warsaw and I am keeping my fingers crossed for Czech Team winning a slot for Euro Cup! :)

    I'm looking to switch from the 501 to the 701. I just don't feel good about the high milage I'd like on the highway. I still want to have fun, but the 501 is really a dirt bike. Enjoy you're new 890😉

    • @CykloGamonie
      @CykloGamonie  11 місяців тому +1

      Right, I believe 501 is an excellent bike if this is your 2nd bike and you have other options for those long highway miles. And if getting to trails always requires you to have highway time, then 690/701 seems like the next logical step, definitely.
      All the best!

    • @adub59
      @adub59 4 місяці тому

      One thing that is quite different between the 501 and 701 are the service intervals. You go a lot further between oil changes on the 701. I think is is 6000 miles. As for off-road capability…I raced the 690//701’s grandaddy the KTM 620SX back in the day. The LC4 engine is a blast in the dirt, you just ride it differently…as in closer to the ground 😂. Your friends will not like you riding in front of them because it shoots roost like a cannon! I am getting a 701 this year and dumping my big 900 ADV bike.

      a fun fact: after selling 701 and getting 890AdvR, almost immidiately I bought another bike - CRF250L, just to have a lightweight bike to play offroad. I put Michelin Tracker tires on it, changes the springs to HyperPro and my current n+1 setup works really well for me ;)

    I'm guessing 901 expedition (xplor suspension). I recommend watching the film released today
    Motovoyager "9 pomysłów na adventure 2023 ", interestingly enough, the 901 performed significantly worse than the 890. Generally, the first 4 places are interesting motorcycles,890, Aprilia, Vstrom 800 and desertX.

      PR7 is practically not available in Poland. No dealer network, I know that owners are having issues with parts and, even looking at the size of the PR7 community, it would be really an adventure to own one here in my country...
      But I respect the concept and I watched many videos of PR7 happy owners. Seems like a good bike.

      Zrobiłem na 701 kilka dłuższych przejazdów solo, ale z bagażem (typu 700km w jeden dzień) - nie było to przyjemne ani wygodne, ale dało radę. Jeśli to było 2x w roku, to byłem w stanie się przemęczyć, ale z wizją większej liczby takich skoków od 2024, zmieniłem na 890AdvR i powinno być odrobinę wygodniej/sprawniej.
