I was a pretty decent junior that played rep cricket up and in the lower grades in Sydney, and finally stopped at 17 to focus on my studies. Reflecting back now, there are 2 technical aspects of my batting that I think are major blackholes in cricket coaching. I'll post them here so that they can benefit others.
First: my back elbow! I think this is the most neglected limb by batting coaches. The best players i.e. Tendulkar, Kallis, Hussey etc. had a back elbow that was in line (or parallel) with the pitch. If you draw a straight line from the back elbow to the wrist just before the bowler lets go (or at the end of your trigger movement) it should point straight down the wicket! If the line from elbow to wrist is pointing to fine leg you will never get the right shape in your drives, and coaches will try and tinker with everything else without standing behind the batsman and looking at what the back arm is doing.
Second: we really need to stop using the phrase "foot to the pitch of the ball". I think this single phrase is responsible for the biggest problems that coached cricketers have (all the way to international level) - falling across the crease and getting out lbw. At the very least, we should be careful because a lot of young kids don't know what this means. I used to try and literally step on the ball because that's what my coaches would be shouting. Instead we should tell kids to get your foot BESIDE the ball! It's all about access to the ball!
Hope this makes sense. Hope to hear what you guys think!

Instead of stepping to the ball gliding to the ball is probably a better phrase that coaches should use

Love the tip about not needing to go back and across to pull @6:30. A lot of batsmen tend to stick to the coaching books and end up blocking deliveries which can actually be sent to the fence with a pull shot. Excellent advice especially for limited overs cricket.
