You tell it all so comically I chuckled roundly. Now I know why EVERYBODY who I have heard about it simply says they've been there and say nothing more

I would stick with the 2/10! Mozambique is one of our favourite destinations for sea side holidays and diving/snorkeling. Unfortunately, all the Campsites are similar to what you described. Ponta Malongane is better because it's quieter but it won't work for your car/van. A Swiss Overlander only lasted 2 nights then fled to Malongane. Thanks for your videos, I love watching them!

I turned in there in May 2024. All looked well but didn’t “feel” right. I went for a drive and ended up at Ponta ( I have a 4x4) where i stayed for a week.

    Mozambique is no picnic.
    You have to shop around.
    You need advice.
It can be the best and the worst place.
And the locals will take advantage of you if you allow it.
Mozambique is completely different to the other countries in SADC.
    And it's expensive.
    But it can be magic.

Great review, was planning a trip that way but the lack of silence and corrupt cops, I would rather stay at home. Pity because so many other countries around SA is so lovely, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia etc

I don't think other countries are as bad as Mozambique. I think M/bque is a lovely country, just very badly run. But don't just stay at home, as you say there are many other lovely countries around us. I'm going to look at some others in the new year, I've heard wonderful things about Zambia.

I agree, staying at home is not an option. We spent two weeks in Lesotho a few months ago and everything about that place is awesome, even the police. We had no bad experiences, got pulled over a lot but never hassled for money or to be harassed. We are off to Botswana in a weeks' time, can`t wait. But we enjoyed your video and honesty about Mozambique, wanted to go that way in July but I rather plan a trip up Namibia or Zambia. Safe travels and happy festive season to you and your family

Hi Don. I went to Mozambique once 12 yrs ago and the traffic police extorted so much money it ruined everything for me, and no I wasn't speeding. How have you found that?

I had problems with the border police extorting money. Every time I went in the fool that stamps passports demanded money before he'd stamp my passport, or he'd just stand there and look at me. I went to do some food shopping in Manguzi once as you can't get much in Ponta do Ouro and when I came back in they demanded 60% in cash as an import duty on the food - they wouldn't take a card, only cash. There were charges like R200 for insurance and R200 for transport - even though I was transporting the goods in my car.
Mozambique is rotten with corruption. I hope it's not the same in other parts of southern Africa.

Nice detailed review Don. Based on your experiences I have to agree with you on the rating of 2/10, which is sad and unfortunate, as I suspect it would take a large investment of time and money to attract more customers, which by the sound of it, the owner wouldn't consider, I'm sure owning/running a caravan/camp park is hard work, balancing the books between low and high seasons, so congratulations to those that do it successfully. Amazing isn't it, that a short distance from our border, crime awareness is seen as a "South African mentality" ... go figure!
I am enjoying your new content, and frequency, maybe on your SA travels you could add more content while staying long term at "park-up's"...
