I hope you will not mind my comment. I like the introduction, the weather is nice, sunshine, which gives me enough time to take the dashboard out before heavy snow falls.
Replaced the heater matrix on my first Scirocco, back in the 90s. Found dampness in the passenger footwell. Was a real pig of a job to do. Remember having trouble removing the two hoses connected to it. Hope you have an easier time.
I remember when i had to remove the dash during my A/C reinstall project (previous owner deleted the A/C and did it poorly, leaving holes for rainwater to enter). I remember thinking “what have i done…” after seeing the bare metal of my interior & all the dangling wires 😂. But everything went alright, because I labelled all wires and put screws in labelled bags 👍
I just managed to get the cluster out of my 16V without removing the dash. I had to practically lay upside down in the car, with the seat all the way back so that my head was facing up directly into the underside of the dash, which then gave my hands the leverage necessary to tug away on both of those connectors. It was definitely not without a struggle, but they both suddenly slid out. I was then able to angle the cluster through the opening in the dash. Need to be very careful and take it slowly there.

I really like your episodes, I followed most of them.

Good to see progress, not for the faint hearted! Looking forward to seeing how that dash comes back... one of the worst I've seen for cracks! 👍🇬🇧

Time for a new dash
Looks like the dash on my 85 Wolfsburg edition.
back in the old days we would cut a sqare and remore and install the heater core and use glue to reattach plastic square.
That's where it comes from, I see where it took Fiat cars using that idea.
I’m about to do the clutch any advice or tips from anyone?
