    "Strat Clut is one of the hardest factions." Sure at first it is difficult but once you have some decent cavalry you become nigh invincible. Also is anyone bothered by the stupid hat-crown?

      Yes the Jughead Crown is annoying.

      Literally why Wales was conquered. Wales was always a divided country. And why when people did unite Wales, they were some of the best men of their time.

    They are simply put the most beautiful looking of all the factions. The Teulu Spear Guard are easily in my top 3 favorite units in the game with Old North cavalry and the West Seaxe Royal Huskarls being the others. The reliance on archers to eliminate dangerous melee units while every othr faction is plagued by low accuracy long range skirmishers is a god send as even 2 units of 350 cost longbows backed up by Spears or reliable cav can wreck their day. Combined with reliable line infantry that easily makes imo Gwined the most well-equipped late game superpower. However it does require a heavy investment into combined arms tactics as none of your units can really stand up to the jaw dropping power of a charging Huskarl unit. Overall I just love their color scheme. Especially Gwined. Hail to the Saethwyr! Hail to the Teulu! Hail to my Medieval 2 Kingdoms Britannia favorite faction whose generals I always tried to marry into my faction. That used to be my princess' opening move. Period.

    What are everyone's favorite factions to play as (funnest) im wrapping up Sudreyar and can't make up my mind on a new faction, be sweet if we could play a Norman campaign.

  • @evandxvies
    @evandxvies 5 років тому +2

    Btw its Gwynedd not Gwined

  • @lol_histicall4289
    @lol_histicall4289 2 роки тому

    I disagree with Gwined only because in my experience I never got to develop because 1 capital province sucks and 2 Powis would always call me in to a war against Mercia which I was in no shape to fight so what I suggest doing is that if Mercia declares on powis just take the diplo hit and invade the lands north of Mercia there you can start your campaign with little to worry about since Northumbria will be fighting either civil war or east Anglia
    (Also I got ultimate victory as Gwined campaign wasn’t as intense as as dyflin but it was very fun and challenging)

    The Welsh, and I mean It in general British terms, not modern Wales term, Brythonic Celts if you prefer.
    The Anglo-Saxons drove them west. And the Gaels like the Scoti from Hibernia, modern Ireland drove them into Southern Scotland, out of highlands and onto the Lowlands. That was in the 900s.
    And the Norse drove the Welsh inland from Strat Clut.
    Even Wales historically suffered Gaelic raids.
    Be it Gael from the West.
    Anglo-Saxon to the East.
    Or Dane and Norseman from the North.
    The native Britons, the Celtic Brythons and their Brythonic culture, has become enclaves in their own island.
    Either Gaelicized or Anglicized.
    On all sides they've been invaded and surrounded

    Fame victory feels like a camelot style victory

    • @jordy1278
      @jordy1278 2 роки тому

      yeah I always loved playing Gwynedd (pretty sure game calls them Gwined) cause of their resemblance of Camelot and one of their lines being Heirs of Arthur (known to be the king of camelot and from the pendragon blood line, always loved anything related to their bloodline) but now I know that they are a pretty powerful kingdom I might play them for most play throughs.

    Idk about strat clut being too hard. Conquered whole north in less than 30 turns. Only had to beat down 3 major armies till the whole area was a walk in the park.

  • @Smockotron
    @Smockotron 6 років тому +4

    Is Strat Clut a Welsh Kingdom? Surely it would be PIct / Scot ? or even more Irish than Welsh... o.O Edit: Appears to share some common ancestry/language with Welsh factions. Perhaps 'Welsh Kingdoms" is the term that is at fault here and should be Brythonic Kingdoms...

    • @winteric8699
      @winteric8699 6 років тому +7

      To be fair I'm pretty sure the Anglo-Saxons called all the Britons "welsh" as it quite irionically meant forienger.

    • @taffyducks544
      @taffyducks544 6 років тому +6

      Smockotron Cymric (Their own name for themselves)
      Britons (Roman name)
      Welsh (Germanic name)....also, Strath clut was one of the last remaining kingdoms of the old North, who were descended from the same people, read the Hen Ogledd. Also the Cumbrians were also descended from these people. Modern day north west England. Another thing. William Wallace was most likely descended from these Cumbrians because Wallace was Norman for Welshman.

      Ah good to know. I guess with all the mixed ancestry and changes the uk has undergone, going way way back, it's no wonder it's all mixed up with so many different names for things :)

    • @justinianusiii289
      @justinianusiii289 6 років тому +2

      Yeah they basically are britons though i guess they use the term 'welsh' to show the difference between the pictish britons and the semi celtic britons

    Strath Clut are Scottish not Welsh, the name Strath Clut comes from the kingdoms position at the strath of the river Clyde - the river that runs through Glasgow Scotland's largest city. The modern day region of Strathclyde still encompasses much of the old territory of Strathclyde. Even the language spoken was a mix of Scottish and north English.

    • @lewistait2215

      I'm not a history expert, however there is a historical Welsh influence in that area of Scotland. It's not well known. Apparently, Cumbric was the spoken language in Strathclyde at the time, which is an offshoot of the Welsh language. Wallace, a Scottish name originating from Strathclyde, literally means Welsh.
      One thing is for sure, Strathclyde was not a Gaelic region at that time.

    • @taffyducks544
      @taffyducks544 6 років тому +10

      Lewis Tait it's Scottish now but not back then... Never heard of the Hen Ogledd then?! Alot of places in Scotland were once Welsh (Cymric, Briton). Hence why they are derived from old Welsh. Aberdeen, Glasgow, etc.

    • @LizardYup
      @LizardYup 6 років тому +3

      Well there's a lot of Welsh folklore which talks about "yr Hen ogledd" or the "the old north". There's a lot of evidence pinpointing that the extinct Cumbric language, like Randy mentioned is closely related to old Welsh, perhaps a dialect of it. This would classify Cumbric under the same category as Welsh, Cornish and Breton (Brittonic, or Brythonic language group).
      As far as I am aware, there is no written records of the Cumbric language, so evidence is mainly from educated guesses, all of which point it towards being a partner of old Welsh. I think Cumbric was extinct by the 12th century.
      As for Scotland, well much of the Goidelic or gaelic celts originated from Ireland, and settled on the Western coast of Scotland. It didn't take long before it was the primary celtic language in the region. I am no history expert but this is what I am aware of :)

      Tyche of Life Yeah. The founding of these countries are mixed with different people. For example...
      Wales...Cymric, Small pockets of Flemish settlers, Romans etc.
      Scotland...Cumbrians, Picts, Irish, English.
      English...Anglo, Saxons, Danes, etc.
      Ireland...Irish, Nordic, Welsh, English. (All this Down the centuries ofcourse, finally having what get today)
