My builder has just recommended her while he was listening to my music sooooo pleased he did as this is really beautiful and Guess what he is a fab builder LoL
You guys oughta here Jimmy LaFave sing this. It'll take your breath away. He also does Gretchens Revival in major way. She is one of the best writers of our generation. Sings like an angel.
rocker53zero,this is beautiful, thank you for sharing it with me.Never heard of her before, but she has a voice much like Petula Clark from many years ago,at least to me ♥
Took your advice and checked out Anita Skorgan " Is it true " and realised this had been haunting me for a long time; and as you say, these are indeed birds of a feather and it's impossible to say which song I find the most moving, as they both tear me to shreds. In return, you might check Joan Baez " Diamonds and Rust ", ------ a strangely similar and sadly haunting song. I hope you got the job nidgybaby by the way ! From another searcher for MEANINGFUL music !
Indeed ~ found Fogelberg's "Same old" years ago & play it every Christmas time... ? Whatever!! Only just come across Gretchen Peters ~ beautiful wordsmith
I am also very (I mean very) fond of Trisha's version. However, this is the original one. Without Gretchen, Trisha could never had recorded this. Besides, Trisha quite closely follows this version, so kudo's to Gretchen. However, Trisha's version is more "mystic", also thanks to Paul Franklins' pedal steel...and I like it better too.
A soulful, heartwrenching melody.
I still love this brilliant song.
.....i wept in the arms if jesus, for the choice you made,
that line just gets me in bits x
Beautiful song, beautifully sung.
Simply beautiful. xxx No movie ending for me it seems xxx MISS YOU more than you know.
I love this song & she sings it so effortlessly
Devon certainly does appreciate her .... her songs touch me deeply, "when I am old" and "aviators song" especially.
Love, love, love this song. How moving music can be!!!
One of my favorite songs about my state, among other things. I first heard it by Trish Yearwood. This is a great version by the author.
Exactly. It about time this was posted. Apparently its better received in the UK than the USA.
i like this song, lost love ! we all have one
Sad Song , Really sad. I think we got to thank Wogan on Radio 2 for playing this so much and getting it the deserved reconization. xxx rad 2

This is clearly the superior version as Gretchen actually wrote it!
What a lovely song: it could almost have been inspired by Dan Fogelberg's "Same old Lang Syne". If you like this, you might like that! :)

Thats because we recognise quality
@MrSqueezefan such a powerful line..
Trisha Yearwood also does a wonderful job on this beautiful song . What a great songwriter and a pretty amazing singer too .
Here's me " in bits " too ! You must listen to " Diamonds and Rust " by Joan Baez " ---- PLEASE ! !

of course it is Trisha is one of the best singers ever ;)
I think Trisha Yearwood's version is more haunting
Superior writing skills.
Not as good as Trisha's version.
