He was the guy who put out the KPM Music Library series of albums. I used them in one of my projects including my “Goldie” series on my channel where it has mostly Alan Hackshaw’s musical cues.
Alan was best known for putting stock music for other things including local TV stations where they used his music for movie series in the 1970’s and 1980’s. In addition, it has Alan’s music for other projects including Radio & TV Packagers redrawn cartoons from the 1970’s, one of the most godawful recreations of original B&W cartoons. There were a bunch on UA-cam with mainly Mutt & Jeff cartoons that doesn’t fit the style of the series. Plus, other projects including the “Goldie” series using Vyond Studio. You can hear Alan Hackshaw’s music on one of the “Goldie” movies that I made on my channel.
Very sad news. He was one of THE finest composers of TV and similar music. You can add 'Dave Allen At Large' and 'Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World' to his massive list of compositions. RIP, sir.
In the old days, when TV obeyed a schedule, we'd turn the TV on really loud as we played outside. The moment someone heard the Dave Allen At Large theme, we dropped everything and ran indoors to dance like 3rd graders...
Alan was a very talented musician I followed his career, including the time he was part of The Shadows line up after Bruce Welch left in either 1968 or 1969.. RIP Alan. Alan Merseyside.
The KPM library album "The Big Beat" from 1969 has been reissued and is available to the general public - VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, it contains the Dave Allen theme "Studio 69" and a ton of other great Hammond-driven melodies that will be familiar to not only UK viewers but also some US viewers who were around n the early 70s (the American Lung Association commercial where the young kid is emulating his father - "like father, like son", then the dad lights up a cigarette..."like father... like son?" That theme is also on this album. again, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, great listening.) RIP and thanks for the music Mr Hawkshaw.
Rest In Peace. Alan Hawkshaw.
