did you find that the weight of your fan dips the roof because so far from ribs? resulting in puddling? Does parking under street light cause problems with sleeping under lights?
Would you say the hole is exactly 14x14? I have this idea …. to make the hole a standard 14x14 so it's compatible with popular vents, but plan to build a custom slightly reclined (like 5 inches) aluminum stand and then use Butyl tape and clamps (from the inside) after screwing it to a 20 x 26 solar panel frame to secure it down. there will be a good 3 - 5 inches of over hang to keep water out so it would have to be raining side ways and the frame itself will have a nice tight seal to stop running water. Also I would have a mosquito inside.
I don't have the exact temp, but I was able to sleep in the Florida summer heat at night with the fan and window open for cross ventilation. planning on doing a video on keeping cool soon!
fantastic job. luckily someone had already warned me about the rust from the metal filings so I jet washed the roof straight after fitting :-) Had I not been told I would have done the same as you did, They get everywhere though and did find a couple of spots on the side of the van.... bummer lol
I tell you this thing amzn.to/2CtN9gP has saved me several times to keep rust from forming. Like any little scratch or paint chips (SO MANY rocks hit my van) Just make sure it's the proper colour haha

what did you use to fill in the roof channels, making a flush connection with the flange of the fan?

I'd probably have to see a picture to imagine your set up, but it is 14x14 for the reason you mentioned
soft scrub bathroom cleaner works great taking rust off top layer op paint without ruining it ; Grandpa Pete from northeast St Pete .
Thanks for the tip! I was able to get the rust off the top and ended up using some similar cleaner for some of the other small rust spots.
With both on what's the temp inside the van compared to outside

Thanks for that, very much appreciated :-) I will order some of that :-)
if you ever do this again, leave about 1/2" of uncut sheet metal on each side. it stops the vibration problems.
Ah very good to know. Thanks 👌
Nice job! Too bad about the rust set-back.
Yeah, but lesson learned there. Always clean up after metal work!
