As I’m getting more into painting with oils, and working on learning about them (I love my watercolors but oils are speaking to me, that’s for sure,) I’m having to dig deeper into learning about mediums and solvents, like it or not. I’ve decided to use Gamsol, especially, to clean my brushes quickly between color changes (squeezing out excess first with rags or paper towel.) . Even though I wanted to be totally solvent free. I do trust that Gamsol is as low odor as possible. I also love your solvent free gel and liquid products too. I do have the water-mixable oils, and they’re ok, but I found I really like traditional oils better…they are thicker, for one and I think they go further for that reason.
Can you say something about the safety of leaving paper towels Thant have been used for wiping paint and brushes. Small studio bins left full of paper can spontaneously combust.
Yes, you can use oil ground on cotton canvas but you will need to use PVA size first in order to protect the fabric. You can find Gamblin PVA Size here: www.plazaart.com/paint/gesso-primers/gamblin-oil-primers/gamblin-pva-size
Loved this! Thanks for taking the time to really explain how to use these products. I feel much more confident moving forward :)
We're glad you found it so helpful! Pete Cole is awesome!
Lots to learn. Thanks!
