St. Louis Rag is one of only a handful of pieces published by Ragtime great Tom Turpin. While Joplin gets most of the attention as the "King of Ragtime", it was actually Turpin who's credited as the publisher of the first ragtime piece by an African-American. A savvy businessman and self-taught pianist, Turpin was also the owner and operator of the legendary Rosebud Bar in St. Louis, Missouri.
