  • GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE SMOTHERED COUNTRY STYLE RIBS: A LOUISIANA CLASSIC WITH ONION PEPPER GRAVY! LOUISIANAN SMOTHERED COUNTRY STYLE RIBS IN ONION PEPPER GRAVY; STOVE TOP LOVE JUST LIKE GRANDMA'S!! Smothered country style ribs in onion pepper gravy was my favorite growing up. Smothered country style ribs in onion pepper gravy cooking low and slow just basting in the onion pepper gravy was truly a treat that I enjoyed from my Grandma. Grandma's love was, is, and will always be the secret ingredient to this recipe as well as all of her many recipes she developed over the years. Smothered country style ribs in onion pepper gravy is a true comfort meal that brings back several great childhood memories. The great thing about Grandma's smothered onion pepper gravy ribs is that they were very satisfying and a true comfort meal. Smothered country style ribs in onion pepper gravy over rice, mash potatoes or next to skillet corn and cornbread talk about a foot toe rubbing, table singing experience this is it!!! The family would enjoy this gravy over the many variations of rice, turkey, biscuits, sausage, chicken you name it the list goes on! Sunday dinner along with smothered onion pepper ribs was an absolute treat right along with cabbage & Kale Greens, Stuffed sweet potatoes, rice & corn bread this was a complete meal full of comfort!!
    Grandma's legacy will truly live on through me and this succulent smothered onion pepper gravy ribs they truly are a reflection of true love for your family and friends definitely a true taste of comfort. Smothered ribs are a great Sunday dinner that can be made relatively in a crock-pot, on top of the stove, in the oven it's virtually a stress free meal made with Grandma's love and patience. Southern smothered ribs cooked in a homemade gravy just says family, friends togetherness as well as a taste of home (Louisiana) is what it's about. Smothered onion gravy ribs is a very versatile recipe that can be paired with greens, rice, cornbread, cabbage, & corn.

    Ingredients
    country style ribs/ribs (2 packs) of preference separated, Black & White Pepper, Holy Smoke seasoning, Poultry seasoning, sazon tropical, garlic seasoning, All Purpose flour 1 1/2 - 2 cups,
    Prep instructions
    - rinse and clean ribs
    - add 3 cups of flour to a large bowl/ziploc, add the following seasonings: 5 TBSP Poultry seasoning, 4 TBSP Sazon Tropical, , 5 TBSP Garlic powder 5 TBSP White & Black Pepper, & 5 TBSP sweet & smoky mix everything well.
    - Add and evenly coat all ribs shake off excess and place on a sheet pan, continue coating until all ribs are coated. All seasoned all purpose seasoned flour to bind to ribs 12-15 mins, set aside. Reserve leftover seasoned AP flour to use within the next few steps for gravy.
    - pan sear ribs in a large skillet 3-5 mins ensure not to overcrowd, set aside. Leave pan drippings in skillet.
    - Add 4 TBSP butter unsalted, add onions pan sear 3-5 mins, next add 1 1/2 cup of reserved seasoned ap flour you have left over from coating the ribs stir and mix well into sauteed onions.
    - add 1 cup water to loosen the gravy base, stir for 30 secs, next add all pan seared ribs.
    - add 2 cartons of chicken stock and add water to cover ribs entirely at this point.
    - adjust heat to high heat for 1 min, reduce heat to low medium and cover ribs and continue to cook until tender for 50 mins, you'll be able to taste flavor of gravy base if additional seasoning is need add Black & White pepper until the desired flavor is achieved.
    - continue partial open lid and allow additional 15 -20 mins cook time this will ensure additional tenderness of the ribs and thickness of your gravy.
    - IF YOU DESIRE A SMOOTH GRAVY USE A LADEL/LARGE SPOON AND STRAIN OVER A MEDIUM BOWL AND YOU CAN POUR ADDITIONAL GRAVY OVER RIBS AND RICE/MASH POTATOES WHATEVER SIDES OF PREFERENCE.
    - Prepare sideS of your preference plate up, serve it up to your family/friends, please enjoy!! Enjoy from my home to to yours!

    Country ribs are probably one of the best ribs I ever had. I really can't say they where fall off the bone, cause I didn't see any bones in them. Lol, don't think I ever seen ribs that juicy & fried as well.

      P, bro country ribs definitely gives you your money worth. I enjoyed this recipe growing up Grandma had me spoiled. 😂 That flavor fried in the ribs release during cook time and this recipe gets better each time.
