I'm a 39yr old white male with a controlling mother and little of a support system in my friends and this movie had me balling my eyes out the entire time. For me it was not about being a young girl, it was about controlling vs supportive relationships. Top 3 of my favorite Pixar movies!
If you alow yourself to mature with the years then yes, aging can give you amazing perspective. However some people just get old, bitter, remain in their ways and stay the same the same freaking way.
loved her on grey's the most because it's the first thing i aaw her in.she is so very talented and so underrated....she's literally Meryl Streep quality...Check out her other projects❤❤
she always pauses when given a particularly thoughtful question, you can tell her answers aren't rehearsed. if you want to see more of her filmography, you should definitely check out "the chair", "killing eve", "meditation park", "raya and the last dragon", "double happiness", "the diary of evelyn lau", "under the tuscan sun", "sideways", and her SNL episode. she also has a horror movie coming out 18 march, which is interesting. she hasn't been in the horror arena, so i'm apprehensive about it, but sandra can do just about anything lol.
I love this interview because she takes time to think before she answers back. She is introspective and honest about her career and how she views the things that have happened in it. I liked it!
Saw your other comment too, my dad is a year older than you and I can already hear him complaining about this movie from a mile away, I’m so glad I chose to watch it alone and truly enjoy it without his, well, fear. You’re absolutely right! I love this movie sm!
Turning Red is definitely an awesome movie. Growing up Mexican-American, I can definitely relate to the pressures of the mother-daughter relationship and being the only girl in the family. A lot of this story brought back past feelings and memories when watching it with my mother. We cried though out the movie, hugged and laughed too. Ladies, definitely a movie to watch with your mom, dad, and even grandma. 🥰
I'm African-American, and this reminds me so much of growing up at that age. Having to come home straight from school, cleaning, & other things. Having a handful of friends, all girls, no boys... This movie is soooo remindful. I told my niece this movie is about her right now!
Also Trevor touched on something that I wholeheartedly agree with. So they were talking about not wanted to use the phrase diverse storytelling and he said people tend to use it for tokenism but really he likes to think of it as originality and that's what I was trying to get through for a long while but I could never find the words when it comes to like just generally stories told from different people of color. Even Marvel movies which is the primary argument I was trying to get through so it's not just actors of color playing the characters but it's the originality of the story which is why I appreciate what Marvel has been doing because they could have easily just copied and paste straight from the comics but they didn't everything is different and the originality is what I was talking about
Very interesting discussion...I learned today that the new Lord of the Rings series has black actors playing elves, maybe they are great actors for that role or maybe the series is trying to as you say use that as wanting to show they are diverse? It`s not serious at all...Same with some movies that are also trying to "empower women" and showing them in roles that don`t look truthful at all...all just for show.
@@sofiaelena5156 that's not exactly what I meant it's not really just for show it's like it's more about representation but also they can tell that story a little differently from what they would have originally given a white elf which they probably would have given something similar already in a previous outing. Make the characters more interesting
I just burnt out at my last job and I’m trying to find myself again, so her last few sentences, about being discerning, finding meaning and not chasing work and chasing approval have really resonated with me, thank you Sandra Oh! Amazing movie, amazing actress, amazing woman ♥️
I watched this without my kid last night and loved every second of it. The storyline, being forced to self reflect (am I a helicopter mom), and just the movie in general. Great job!
Absolutely LOVE 💕 Sandra Oh! Killing Eve is phenomenal. Everything she does is awesome. Her work is so strong. ❤️ Look forward to the new Pixar movie which sounds great.
Sandra Oh! So down to earth and one of my absolute fave actresses to follow. Turning Red looks like such a fun movie! Pixar DOES have clever ways of depicting daily life concepts through their movies. It really hits home!
I only knew Sandra Miju Oh from Greys Anatomy as Dr. Cristina Yang. Golden Globe winner 2006. What a wonderfull woman and such a great personality. Love the interview thank you Trevor and his production team. ❤️ 🇳🇱
We have 3 little ones 2 girls ages 8 and 4 and a boy age 5 and they have seen the movies about 10 times already so I do think it's an instant classic. My 8 year old asked the question and so we took it as a time to prepare her of what will happen so she won't be afraid like I was.
Seeing Sandra Oh now, I'm kinda glad she moved on from Grey's Anatomy. If she hadn't, she'd still be stuck there (a never-ending show). I'm happy for her, she's so awesome and deserves more leading roles in many projects. This interview was fantastic, and I especially liked the viewpoint of originality instead of diversity. The word diversity has been ruffling my feathers for a while now, too. The same goes for the word 'minority'.
Sandra Oh ...loved her on Grey's Anatomy. My favorite part was when she couldn't let her amazing bf into her apartment bc it's 2 messy. She explained to him she has to BUY new underwear bc she doesn't LAUNDER. That relationship and those characters were the best. I stopped watching Grey's when they fired him. HEARTBROKEN. That was the funniest TV relationship ever AND ALL those complex contradictory emotions it encapsulated!
As kids change, parents have to change, too. They have to change how they speak to them, how they relate to them. It's a normal part of development stages. Your kid is becoming a new person so you have to change how you parent them. Sometimes changing patterns and letting go of control is really hard, & every child needs something different, but doesn't your kid at least deserve that effort from you?
I so wish this interview was longer!! I could listen to the two of you talk back-and-forth for another 30 minutes…even though this one was white maybe eight
Fantastic interview once again, Trevor ! I love that you both brought your immigrants perspective to it. This movie is groundbreaking, even for a Pixar movie, and I would love you to do an interview of its director Domee Shi. That ought to be really interesting too !
main thing is to answer the questions you are asked and the questioner will come back for more hair in funny places is the book i got for my pre teens..
I remember no one told me that periods were a 3 to 4 days type of thing and I wore my favorite caprice to school and out of anyone in my class the bullie ( girl) noticed that my pants got a stay. She actually pull me aside and told me and I went to the nurse and then went home. ( long story short, she didn’t mess with me, because I showed her not to, a year before 😂) But yes, when I got my period I knew what I need to wear but didn’t know that it wasn’t a one day type of thing. My son is 4 and he knows about periods and all of this things because he asked and I answered with the truth and real names. Oh he wants to watch the movie with the little girl that turns into a red panda😂😂
I think I've heard about turning red because when I went to watch no way home or matrix resurrections that was on the coming soon section of the theater
This whole time I have been calling her movie "Red Panda". I was looking for it online and couldn't understand why I couldn't find the movie "Red Panda". [sigh] Now I know the title is "Turning Red"...I watched it...I did not expect what I saw in an animated film for kids. I liked it when Mei Mei turned into the red panda. Anytime I have watched videos of red pandas playing it's like they know how super cute they are. It's the only animal I have ever seen with that type of attitude.
That's an interesting insight and I never considered that. Yeah Pixar is talking about themes and topics that nobody usually wants to talk about like puberty and mental health and other things. As a Pixar oficionado (I have watched most of the Pixar movies that exist) that is a true statement
Fun fact, the director of "Turning Red" and "Bao" are the same person! After the directed "Bao", she was asked to pitch a film idea since her short had done so well.
I wish this interview was longer. Sandra Oh is so introspective, intelligent and open…one could listen to her for hours.
I'm a 39yr old white male with a controlling mother and little of a support system in my friends and this movie had me balling my eyes out the entire time. For me it was not about being a young girl, it was about controlling vs supportive relationships. Top 3 of my favorite Pixar movies!
Yesss!! It’s so relatable for everyone. You don’t have to be a girl or a woman to enjoy it and relate to it.
Wow! Now I've got to hurry up and watch it!!
I too was bawling my eyes out

I relate deeply.
“It’s amazing to age because you get, like, perspective….” 👏🏾

Yes 👏

Wow.. Sandra Oh is mega cool. So smart, chill, thoughtful, thought-provoking... I've really only watched her in Grey's prior to this interview.

The children whose parents are afraid of this movie are exactly the children that need to see this movie.

Trevor is by far the most genuine interviewer on television. He should do a long-form interview show a la Charlie Rose. He'd be much better at it.
I just watched “Turning Red” with my 12 year old son and we both loved it. I just love the discussion we had after. I loved this interview

Noah is such a respectful host. This should have been 2 hours long. I could listen to her for more than that of course.

She's brilliant in Killing Eve.
