  • 343 gave us a new mode, and the tools to set it up.
    But what they didn't do was tell us quite literally anything about how to do it. They didn't even say that there were things you had to have in your map before hills would even spawn in! This was a HIGHLY requested video, and I'm finally able to tackle it. There have been some tutorials out there, but not many video tutorials, and mostly text, which are hard to follow, when many are visual learners, as well as those tutorials not really explaining it for those who aren't used to forge like Infiinite's. So I'm here to bring it to you now.

    We need a guide on to spawn AI in the new Firefight Custom mode, without hills. All I want is to be able to fight endless waves of enemies like we could in Classic Firefight.

    Excellent video, can't express enough how helpful this was.
    And, though it's highly unlikely, it would be sick if they added an option for initial spawns where we could have a pelican fly everyone in, like in warzone firefight.

    I think move zones may not he necessary, but I think they are important. I noticed on house of reckoning, and other maps, that ai will *fight to* the hill, and not rush it. I think these move zones are part of that

      Yeah I'm trying to make a map myself and I've been struggling because after wave 1, the 2nd just stands there's and I can't figure out why (without move zone)

      The payback is that hopefully the help I give others, they can make more fun maps, which in turn allows me to try them out haha
      As for 343, they DID mention me on Waypoint, so I'd say I'm grateful for that!

      @@-Zechariot My custom map isn't spawning the AI. It's someone else's map, I just added the hill, face plate, and spawn zones.
      * I did all the labels like you showed.
      * I made sure there was a spawn zone with group 2 instead of 1.
      * I made sure the spawn zones were set to team Cobra.
      * I checked the settings in lobby and I made sure to use custom AI overrides (the firefight mode I'm using has its own custom waves).
      The hill spawns and is announced, and can be captured. The AI however do not spawn at all 😢. I am at a loss here, and would appreciated any insights or troubleshooting tips.

      ​@@LiberatedMind1 Do they have other spawners in the map? Another thing to make sure of is not to duplicate your AI spawners. I did in the video since it was just a few of them, and could be fixed if the bug happened, but there is a bug that causes the indexes to get weird when duplicating the spawners. That and double check that the hills match the group index of the spawners made for them.

    For some reason the phantoms are getting blocked out of the map by my blockers in firefight koth customs but in play mode and atrition they work just fine idk what im doing wrong
    Edit: Player blockers regardless of team will block ai phantoms in 343s Firefight KOTH mode. just had to replace everything with team blockers

    What about classic firefight without hills? Basically id like to do waves via wave scripting, not firefight menus.
    When I load up Firefight Custom it just breaks various map scripts. Teleporter delete spawn scripts, ai spawn scripts, weapon spawners, etc. Even with Override Map AI disabled and allowing map weapon placements.

    Great video! Ive been waiting for this. Big question: If I already have a map that's scripted for a classic firefight experience using 343's firefight koth, how can I add new koth spawners into the same map without interfering with those other scripted spawners? That way I have a gamemode separate for classic firefight and koth firefight for that map.

      To do this, go into all the AI spawners that you DONT want spawning during KOTH, and use the label “firefight exclude” and “koth firefight exclude”
      This will make it so that your spawners currently on your map unrelated to the KOTH mode will not be on the map when using that mode so you’ll have no issues with them.
      And if you’re worried about the other way around, go into your KOTH AI spawners, and whatever game mode you have your other game type set to, use the label “*insert that game type here* exclude” and it should have them completely separated and will not interfere or spawn in each other’s modes.

      You may also need to go to your scripting brain that manages things with ai spawners and set it’s label to the same thing, firefight and firefight KOTH exclude. Not sure how that works yet but I’m thinking that’ll do it.

      Thanks. I just ran into a problem that maybe others have too. I have 3 waves and a boss wave for set 1. Each wave has 4 spawners with 4 to 5 units each. Wave 1 spawns successfully but wave 2 and 3 fail to spawn a spawner or 2 and some that do spawn just idle at spawn while the hill is being held. Then when the boss wave comes, the idle units finally move to the hill. All settings are correct. Any idea what could be happening?

      @@mikemyers688 it’s possible that something’s up if you duplicated your spawners. Apparently a bug is going around that causes the indexes to get weird if you duplicate the spawners instead of placing them brand new.

    so if you have script already on the map trying to figure this stuff out on own, do you still need that script of spawners or switch over to this process, and thanks for the big help, actually you have helped me on my firefight maps and my campaign map like crazy, each time i think mission is done it changes with new ideas you pop out, the checkpoint one was great the script i made used like 3o pieces and with the map expanding in length would of taken alot of script brains lol

      If this is the only game mode you want to use with your spawners then no, this covers all the general waves without any scripting. The only thing you would need scripting for is like other AI spawners outside of the main game mode like secret bosses or secret areas or allies and all that.

    Is it possible to set this up but with normal respawns for the players so you don't have to be revived if you die and just respawn at a respawn point?

      I think it would be possible by making a custom variant of the Firefight gamemode that has a very short revive timer. Revives would still technically be possible, but respawning would happen as fast as it does in other gamemodes.

    You mentioned a couple ways to glitch the mode out and never end. Is there a way to take advantage of this? Perhaps scoring a hill and keeping the music going because an inactive enemy isn’t dead?

      I haven’t played with the soft locked mode much, but perhaps that would work by teleporting the AI to a safe point in the map.

    Collab on helms deep? I’ve got the first 2 hills to spawn out of 6 total but something happens with my waves between 4-9 they all just spawn and depspawn until the last couple waves

    I can’t seem to get it to work. Maybe my map was broken but AI won’t spawn and hill captures aren’t counting. Only the first one appears too

    Do you think it might be possible to set up a pvpve version of the gamemode? I tried setting it up but it's not easy to do so because 1) the ai is hard coded to score for cobra team only, and 2) the game is hard coded to be over if all team eagle players are down. Switching all players to teams 3 and 4 still ends the game because nobody is in eagle team.

      People have used the Attrition/Elimination mode for Firefight before Firefight was officially released, but I've also seen that the enemy AI units also work regardless of gamemode.
      So far, I've seen "P&E vs P&E", but not "P vs P with E in the crossfire".
      With the official Firefight gamemode, I do not think this is something possible to do due to the reasons you've pointed out.
      You could just add AI to other gamemodes, since it seems to work fine with Slayer, at least. You could even add friendly AI to each team while also having neutral AI in the middle.

      @@TeamMuggi yeah that's the way I saw this working. The koth:firefight mode has the advantage of having an integrated wage manager, and letting the AI conquer zone, it's a shame that these settings could not be added to other modes

    It seems you do in fact need move zones for AI to go to the hill. The 1st wave always goes to the hill but the others do not

    I've been trying to setup a "Generic Zone" to "Allow AI" to capture it, but in both test mode and custom games, nothing happens, don't suppose you know a fix to this? Thanks!

      Sadly no, I actually tried messing with that a lot and so far, no dice. If there’s a fix, no one seems to be talking about it and I’ve brought it up to several other places and they don’t know it either. Seems to be non functional for the time being.

    Ive tried including move zomes but neither way is working to get my ai to move

    can you still have friendly ai when using 343s version of firefight?

      I believe so. Just have them set to your team, and don’t have firefight spawner as their label, and use your own script to spawn them and you should have no issues.

      I’ve just tried to make it where all squads are killed on generic zone incoming then it spawns a marine spawner at said zone but I can’t seem to get it to work

    343 is asking players to make KOTH firefight maps for matchmaking.. will this tutorial meet the same parameters as the matchmaking mode?

      I mention the requirements to get the gamemode testable. I'd say you would require more, such as weapon drops designated as weapon drops and other things. But as long as you get those setup and Your waves fully filled out, then the 5 hill model would work.

    I can't get anything to work properly and I've tried almost everything I can think of. I've manually set the spawners and ai never spawn. The point will start at the beginning of the match but no enemies. If I set more than one spawner if just repeatedly says reinforcements but still don't spawn. (Edit) i guess it has something to do with my map "floating" it was built in the 343 void map, i dont know how to fix it though

      did you setup nav mesh for the ai? he show it in this video, but that should be done before you worry about the hill stuff. i can explain the process if u need it

      @Zuri_SM that was my issue, I still had ai who just stood there other than wave 1, but I just got around it by using move points

    I've set it all up as you showed but when I load into custom games, the hills don't spawn aswell as the AI, it seems to lag and firing the gun and throwing grenades doesn't work, if I delete all firefight stuff, it'll run fine, any ideas on how come it's not running?

      Without seeing the objects on the map, or any other scripts that might be on it, it’s hard to tell.

      No worries, I've now got the hills and spawns working so it plays but the spawns across the map are completely random, do I need to change the spawn sequence? Otherwise Ive made sure it's exactly the same as yours

      @@TheGentlemenReacts it should be based on the indexes. Group index is what hill, and sub index is what wave of that hill.

      @@TheGentlemenReacts if they are duplicated spawners, it bugs their indexes apparently. So you may have to place a new spawner with the same settings without duplicating

    Hey Zechariot! Ive been following you since forge released and ive been wondering how to ask you to do a custom video. i cant figure out how to make a working ski lift. Ive made a remake of skyrail from 007 nightfire and id love to get the ski lifts to move! Hope you see this! I just subcribed to ya

I will link a few videos that can give you an idea of what i mean. first video is how the ski lifts move in the 007 game. 2nd and 3rd video are what im assuming can make them work properly but they are still tough to understand. your videos are always very detailed and much more useful.

    Followed all steps, AI doesn't spawn (but hill does), checked lobby settings everything is fine. Any ideas? @Zechariot.
