  • I was able to fit in ANOTHER test although I wasn't able to ride much at all in October. I am glad I rode this test though. I learn something new from each test I ride and submit for judging, which is the whole point behind what I'm doing. Are you getting anything out of these videos? If so, let me know in the comments!
Its amazing to me how precise you have to be even at the intro level - this is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, to be completely honest. I am having to work so much harder as a rider than I ever have before. I'll ride the test a few times on the day I plan to film and submit for judging and I always tell myself beforehand not to override and that I should only do the two or three times. But then, there's always one little thing that makes me feel like if I just ride it one more time, I can get more stretch, or more impulsion, or he will stop better, or I'LL STAY ON THE CENTERLINE!
Anyway, I hope you all are enjoying these and thanks for watching!

Why am I on UA-cam and what can you expect from this channel? I feel empowered to share my story and Dakota's story because I know there are people out there in the same boat we are; maybe my channel will help them in some way. Dakota is a senior horse who has spent most of his life grazing in a pasture. He wasn't really broke to ride until he was in his teens. I've had to overcome obstacles that prevented him from being ridden earlier in his life - finances, distance, time, and fear. Now, we trust each other and are both enjoying western dressage.
I'll share any dressage tests I ride, virtual or live (even the bad ones), with scores and comments from the judge. I'll give vlogging a try . . . which is scary, but I'm in this now! Any other horse-related content that I think could be worth sharing (DIYs, fashion, organization) could become a video.
I have ambitions to progress through intro level dressage to basic level next Spring. I'd like to give the WDAA International Online Challenge a try and maybe we will qualify for the WDAA world show?

Thank you for being so transparent & vulnerable. I'm new to Western Dressage (any dressage) and this is so helpful. I'll be doing Intro 1 & 2 later this week. I ride an older horse who has a bouncy trot and is a little stiff, so your comments are helpful for both of us!

Hi @GiddyupMimi5 and thanks so much for watching! As I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten braver about admitting what I don’t know about riding and horses even though horses have been in my life for almost 30 years. I think (and I hope) the equine industry is shifting to be more accepting of beginners and/or people who are making changes to their approach with horses. I have just LOVED western dressage and hope to get back to riding soon - Dakota’s had some health issues this year. Good luck with your tests!

Thanks for this and the explanation. I've been riding for years and started western lessons a while ago (I don't have my own horse). I usually mainly do cutting as the school horses I ride are cutting/ trail horses. This week I wanted to do some western dressage which I've done English dressage (very basic!). I'm very lucky that the horse I ride can do it all so long as I give him the right cues. My instructor has won championships in western dressage here in Australia, amongst cutting etc so she also knows how to teach western dressage. This was very helpful as I'd never watched a test so I can see what movements I have to do. Thank you very much and good luck with it all. I'll watch some more. best wishes from Australia

Thanks @maggsm3392! Cutting looks like so much fun but I don't know that I'd stay on too long 😂, I'm glad to hear you're giving western dressage a go, it's been a game-changer for me as an equestrian in many ways. I hope you enojy it and thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting. My horse is also older with similar issues. We have a lot of similarities!

Hi @kelliec8697 thanks for watching! I love how this sport helps both the horse and rider. I feel like I learn something new after each ride!
