I've got a semi-auto in Russia.The condition is even better though it was excavated-my best finding ever.The thing is that it was not only preserved without a single scratch or rusty piece,because was found in the crate-it also shown all signs that it never fired before,not a single round ever since produced,each part was blued and inside the barrel there was internal blueing,which erased after few shots.Of course I done everything to register it and I succeeded!The very cool thing is that in Russia the law requirements about full auto is very interesting so if you carry a licensed and registered semi-auto converted gun in the forest with you and have the convertion parts set in your pocket-it is legal and noone can tell you anything about it.So of course I left all the original parts intact,and when I went to Debalzevo(Donbass)like a volunteer I also used it,converted back of course.And until I moved to Toronto a couple of years after I came back-everytime when I went excavating with my friends I took it with me.It was like my deer rifle,and the best defence against the thugs which sometimes can be found in the forests-the guys who simply try to take everything from diggers which encounter them-and of course it is very good device against the bears.Maybe you can safely walk and do metaldetecting in German or Austrian forests without firearms but in Russia if you come to some place 200+ kilometres away from your city in the forest for any reason without firearms-you are complete idiot or more likely a suicider..Because the probability to successfully return home in one piece is not 100% even with a firearm and without one-50/50 live/die is a very optimistic prediction..So no matter that it's heavy-I always take it with me,and though I long ago got the hunting licence-I still never hunted bears(as single boar right costs 10 euros and single bear right to shoot costs more than 5000 euros)-the thing is that bears hunted me 4 times!And so,my"iron comrade",already twice saved my life from them.Before that another 2 times my car and the fact that it was near-saved me when my Mosin and my Mauser failed to do anything with those beasts.And for example the first time when I finally took one down,honestly I was going to test it in full auto just far away in the forest with my comrades and so,when I saw the bear approaching-I let him close the distance to 70-80 metres and then that bear was fed with the whole "pancake"(that's how we call 50 rounds ammo can for MG42)of fully charged AP-tracers without a single miss.This was finally enough,but as the wounded beast continued roaring and trying to get up again to tear us all apart-so never before that moment and never after I reloaded the MG42 faster than that time-I really thought that it will get up again and finish us all..But then I realised that my "iron comrade"did it's job.. But in fact(I hope my friend will not blame me for that🤣),as I realised-in conclusion the MG34 is really a little bit better than MG42-I mean of course not in it's application to mass production simplicity or reliability advantages of MG42 above MG34 at conditions like swamps,late autumn Russian extreme mud or Russian winter conditions of 40 degrees below zero Celsius,yes,it was the better solution but just for me personally I would prefer MG34 in it's first of all,long-range accuracy which was better than MG42's,and also in application to the Russian law requirements for firearms owners-because as originally MG42 is full auto only it takes a lot more to convert it into semi-auto only;as I understood,if you have a registered MG34 in Russia-that can be meaning that you carry all the MG34 with you and instead of a damn plenty of original parts in your pocket like I did with MG42,but you just carry a single part in your pocket instead-the full auto trigger piece and that's it!And when it comes to auto fire,it's also better and much more controllable,as it has 800-900 RPM or 14-15 rounds per second and when I measured my own MG42's fire rate-it shown exactly 24,6 rounds per second!And when I arrived to Debalzevo I had the whole God Damn trunk loaded up with ammo in belts for my MG42 and the MG itself with also my sniper Mosin laying under my back seat as well as the Mosin's ammo can with 420 rounds!And the thing is that ALL THAT PILE OF AMMO was totally depleted by the end of the 3rd day there!!!How's that can be called and PAID?)))

The MG42 is an icon from WW2. You have a nice example, too bad it is deactivated, makes it much less collectible. I rather have 1 real gun then 10 deactivated ones, in fact i only collect fully operating/shooting guns. Love your channel.

During my 2 years in the German Bundeswehr, the successor (MG3) was the best machine gun I ever had my hands on! On a miltary training ground, one could reallly find out about the enourmous effective range of this weapon (1. Bipod (Zweibein): up to 300m. 2. Base - mounted (Feldlafette): up to 1500m). However, after having fired 120 rounds of ammo (Gefechtsmunition), a barrel change was obligatory. The MG3 can fire from reusable belts as well as linked ammuntion (3ball, 2tracer).
I’ve an Austrian friend near St. Pölten... He has his own museum with about 30- 40 MG42/53’s.... Absolutely crazy... I’ve been there like twice a year and it still blows my mind 😂🤘🏻
Can't without a spare barrel and bolt, they get grinded and drilled to the point of well, deactivation. Then the next problem would be the ammo. You need a gun license to buy it, you could also magnet fish some from the ponds and rivers where they got dumped during the war, most of them would be corroded to unsafe condition. And ofcourse, this all would be heavily illegal to do without licenses in the first place, so nobody in their safe mind would go on internet to show how they've done it.
If you check out a company called Indianapolis Ordinance they make a full auto Blank firing MG42 replica, basically the real thing but it doesn't fire any bullets out the boom tube Though it's also a cool 6000$ sooooo

Hi there, did you actually try pulling back the charging-handle to unlock the Bolt before removing the Barrel? Deactivation routine is usually to weld the flap shut ;-)
I've always liked the Mg42 and 34. They have a certain steampunk look to them. No wonder they were used as props in Star Wars. If a machine gun can be a work of art, it was the MG34/42.
You rmind me of my son... he would sound just like you. Now, more seriously, the MG42 was (and still is as the G3) a full success. Another thing which you might want to pause and consider: most of the time when a tool or a weapon is a success due to the fact that it had been well thought about and well designed, it is also esthetically pleasing to look at... Think about the Mauser "Schnellfeuer", the PO8, the P38... the MP38 and the MP40 or the MP44. The Germans were tops!

I love the mg 42 yesterday I seen the first one that is deactivated for sale here in the United States but he wants six thousand dollars for it it was numbers matching made in Germany in 1943 . I feel bad the officers training our soldiers to go to war because they told them that it has a bigger bark than bite so they wouldn't be scared when they hear that amazing sound of it flying thru ammo faster than anything before It. That is what made the small amount of soldiers on Normandy to able to hold the beach for so long taking so many of my fellow Americans lives. I respect and love that weapon but I hate what it did to our soldiers

Regrettably, Heckler & Koch are already testing a machine gun - the MG4 - which is to replace the MG3 sometime in the future. Just check some of HK's own videos. It fires the same 7,62mm x 51 NATO cartridge, has a replaceable barrel (you grip a handle and turn the barrel clockwise to unlock it) and should do away with some inconveniences of the MG42 / MG3, e.g.: 1. Weight and bulkiness (MG3: 11kg or ca. 25 lbs); 2. Tendency to wander off - target, difficulty to control the weapon; 3. No modular design, which should make a machine gun more flexible for different combat situations / special ops units.
Incredible that The U.S. 1st and 29th infantry faced at least 3 of these MG42's on Omaha Beach in WW2, with only Springfield and Garand 7 shot rifles. Not even Thompson submachine guns were enough.

I found a barrel of the mg42 a few days ago, unfortunately I had to leave it there because in germany the barrel also needs special permission like a weapon :/
The Receiver has not been cut and under BATF this is still a MG, You have a EU De-act Holes drilled into Barrel breech welded up & Bolt Face cut and welded firing pin hole.

I love the mg 42 yesterday I seen the first one that is deactivated for sale here in the United States but he wants six thousand dollars for it it was numbers matching made in Germany in 1943 . I feel bad the officers training our soldiers to go to war because they told them that it has a bigger bark than bite so they wouldn't be scared when they hear that amazing sound of it flying thru ammo faster than anything before It. That is what made the small amount of soldiers on Normandy to able to hold the beach for so long taking so many of my fellow Americans lives. I respect and love that weapon but I hate what it did to our soldiers

Regrettably, Heckler & Koch are already testing a machine gun - the MG4 - which is to replace the MG3 sometime in the future. Just check some of HK's own videos. It fires the same 7,62mm x 51 NATO cartridge, has a replaceable barrel (you grip a handle and turn the barrel clockwise to unlock it) and should do away with some inconveniences of the MG42 / MG3, e.g.: 1. Weight and bulkiness (MG3: 11kg or ca. 25 lbs); 2. Tendency to wander off - target, difficulty to control the weapon; 3. No modular design, which should make a machine gun more flexible for different combat situations / special ops units.
It’s the best MG ever made and that’s why they still issue it to many countries. Modified to 7.62. NATO. I wish I could get my hands one.

Incredible that The U.S. 1st and 29th infantry faced at least 3 of these MG42's on Omaha Beach in WW2, with only Springfield and Garand 7 shot rifles. Not even Thompson submachine guns were enough.

m8, Germany's products are ANYTHING but simple, same with this weapon.
Robert H. Goddard: The Father of Rocketry actually compared to the MG 34 the 42 was incredibly simple seeing as it used a large amount of stamped steel parts.

I found a barrel of the mg42 a few days ago, unfortunately I had to leave it there because in germany the barrel also needs special permission like a weapon :/

The Receiver has not been cut and under BATF this is still a MG, You have a EU De-act Holes drilled into Barrel breech welded up & Bolt Face cut and welded firing pin hole.
