@@mistifeyed It's not odd at all... The story of flight 93 tends to focus on the men storming the cockpit. Most people aren't even aware that the flight attendants were also forming their own plan to try and help. I guarantee that if you ask people, most won't know about the flight attendants boiling water. Stop trying to find issues where there aren't any. You've completely taken the comment out of context.

It is odd. If one doesn’t know this fact they probably don’t know the story of the flight at all. I’ve never seen a flight 93 story told or a docu or anything but that doesn’t tell the full story including the FA’s role. It’s not like they’re being written out. I knew of the boiling water

Great words, but even better are "pull it up." Those very last words spoken two seconds before the crash give hope to the theory that the passengers had in fact defeated the hijackers and taken the controls, but that they simply did not know how to fly a commercial jet. RIP40H.

What is truly remarkable about these people is that they didn’t just act to save themselves. While we know that they prevented the plane from hitting DC, we also know that they waited to attack until they were over a rural area, saving lives below them in case they failed. They were thinking of others who they never met in a circumstance of ultimate duress. That is courage and heroism that you just do not expect to see from a group of strangers. Words cannot express how much I admire them.

For those of us who were alive to witness it, it'll always feel like yesterday. My Grandfather still had nightmares of Pearl Harbor, and then later on, when he was deployed to the Atlantic Theater and saw the Camps. The Camps, however, were one of the things he never talked about fully; all he would say was how inhumane it was and how he could still smell it to this day.
For me, 9/11 is not something I'll ever forget since I lost a classmate to the towers (visiting family in NYC, grandfather worked in the towers and was able to get him onto the roof so he could see the view, I can only imagine what he was thinking when those planes hit, the only two things they found from him was his backpack and camera) and nearly lost my older brother at the Pentagon

It makes me so sad that the wife of Capt. Dahl seems to feel like she has to make it clear that her husband was alive and participating throughout. Saying that the coroner didn’t see any difference in coagulation between Capt. Dahl and everyone else. Those people were in bits. They hit the ground at over 500 miles per hour. If he was killed early it doesn’t make him any less valuable on the flight and even if he was killed right away it doesn’t diminish him in any way whatsoever. I just feel particularly sad for Mrs. Dahl every time I watch this.

After hearing this story I think they actually were hand picked by a higher power. The story of the day may have been to go home and eat dinner, in their minds, but I believe they knew in some part of themselves that there was a much bigger assignment.
If that plane had hit the white house, the stakes were much bigger than some governmental chaos. Not only would it have emboldened every terrorist organization, but the repercussions from our military would have been truly heinous.
The repercussions as it were changed the face of the world. It however was child's play compared to what would have occurred had they hit the white house. And it would not have been only the guilty caught in the crossfire.

I've seen several Flight 93 documentaries and/or dramatizations, but had never seen this one before. Definitely interesting, as there were some interviews in this that were unfamiliar to me. Only thing I wish had been different about this one was that the narrator shut up more, and stopped asking questions more like they were statements. But all that minor stuff aside, my heart still simultaneously breaks and fills with pride when I think about the passengers and crew of Flight 93. It's so sad they were even in this situation at all, but so brave of them to try to take the plane back.

I think the narrator's questions is a way to keep viewers engaged, something I've noticed in documentaries for years. The narrator asks questions, and hopefully the viewers keep watching so they can hear the answers. It can be annoying, and it's a common trope in docs. Bloggers do a similar thing, in print.

The internet itself as we know it was only 5 years old and news sites much more basic. This documentary dates to 2005 before the transcript of the CVR was released. I'm inclined to believe the cockpit was breached and then Jarrah crashed the plane during the struggle. So it was heroic in that it stopped them from reaching their target, though I don't believe they had reached the point of getting control of the plane with any chance of trying to save it themselves. That doesn't lessen what they did in the slightest (full disclosure-Todd Beamer was in the same college class I was in, and my parents knew Donald and Jean Peterson from their church).

    • @floridamarinemom1749
      @floridamarinemom1749 10 місяців тому +18

You could be right but my impression of the CVR transcript is that they possibly temporarily got possession of the controls for possibly 8 seconds but one of the hijackers was able to get the controls back. I think the transcripts leave it open to the possibility that one of the passengers was in a struggle for the retention of the controls right up until 3 seconds before impact. I agree that I don't think they ever had a real chance of saving themselves. The transcript indicates that the hijacker that was in the cockpit planned to end it if threatened by the passengers. I believe that he had already turned the plane in a deadly descent that most likely the passengers wouldn't have been able to save it from if they had taken control if they had breached the cockpit even sooner. None of that matters in the long run. They knew that it was risky to try but they tried anyways. Of course, they wanted to live, that's human instinct but I believe that they all were aware of the real likelihood of them not succeeding but even if they didn't that they would prevent the hijackers from hitting their target. Whatever they though, was able to accomplish as far as attempting to take back the plane, the fact they attempted and was able to breech the cockpit shows the bravery they showed in the face of extreme danger. Regardless of whether their main goal was to save themselves or to stop the hijackers planned attack, they succeeded in saving numerous lives on the ground and for that they will always be heroes.

I remember from one of the documentaries that they knew if they couldn't take control and survive that they wanted it to go down before it got to a populated area. I agree it was a long shot, but they felt like they had to try. I'm very proud of all of their efforts. Not many people will try to overtake hijackers ,especially before 9/11. I have watched a couple of news stories since 9/11 where people have tackled passengers who say they have a bomb . I believe the courage of flight 93 has allowed others to step up in situations on public transit... planes, trains, buss', water ferries. ❤

Like many Americans, I will never forget where I was on that Tuesday. I was a junior in college and I had gone to class that morning a very early 8:00 AM CST class. Back then televisions still we’re on carts and rolled in and out of classrooms in lecture halls. My professor secured a TV and brought it in. I was in a larger lecture hall that morning as a nursing major all of my other classes were small, but I was double majoring and this was one of the few classes I had left for that degree. And since it was the beginning of the semester, I didn’t know many students in that class whereas my nursing classes I knew everyone. But people were hugging and crying and encouraging one another like we were lifelong best friends. At first other students from other lecture halls since TV’s were limited, piled in and it was standing room only but eventually professors told us we could go home if we wanted to. I remember being scared and wanting to go all the way home to where my parents were but instead I went back to my house with my roommates and we stayed glued to the television all day. Even on that horrible Tuesday before we had all the details about flight 93 I knew they were a ray of sunshine in this horrible tragedy. They were just amazing American heroes. Definitely the first warriors of the war on terror. Even as 20+ years has passed my heart thoughts and prayers go out to all the families affected by 911 there were so many heroes that day, So many people that thought about others before they thought about themselves. 🙏🏻 🇺🇸 ❤

Crazy that this wasn't done in the very beginning of each new plane even back to 2001. Also, there should never be a way to turn off the transponders. There's really no reason as to why any pilot would NEED to turn them off in day to day operations. Make transponders on at all times on every aircraft (if they aren't already)

You heart can’t help but swell for them. They knew they were going to perish BUT gif damn if so they decided to perish by THEIR own hands while trying to crash the plane BEFORE it could it it’s target. What a beautiful and heartbreaking story. We will NEVER forget you Flight 93!

I always wonder how close the passengers were to breaking into cockpit and regaining control off it???
