Did anybody notice how originally Jason Ratcliff said seven guys? Then he quickly changed it to six. Can't put all the blame on that extra crew member that hopped over the wall if the crew chief is saying "seven guys" on the radio.

You know that this Chase format is an absolute travesty when the second (at least) best car all year is out of the round of 8 because of ONE bad finish. (Talladega he still got like 15th)

That penalty for Kenseth was absolutely ridiculous and stupid.
Axel Rocha They have rules for a reason.. you can't break them. Is the penalty stupid? No. Is the punishment stupid? In my opinion, yes. Very excessive. Could they not just have a stop and go? It is literally just one extra guy over the wall, and their championship is done. Really unfair, I think.
Of course they have rules for a reason. The 20 team broke the rules on a breakdown in communication and they deserved a penalty. However, having to park the car and having your championship bid ended for one extra guy over the wall is absurdly excessive, and that rule needs to be reworked immediately.
The reason he was parked probably had to do with the whole 5 minute damage clock rule. A driver is supposed to be parked if he can't manage the 5 minutes, so the penalty unfortunately went in that direction. It's a new rule this year, so there's going to be loopholes or issues that come up at the worst times. Kenseth just got really unlucky for that reason.
It was only championship ending because of the specific circumstances involved. Its not like they can just waive the penalty that was set before the season because the team was near the cut line on the last race. That's not how life works.
Again, nobody said that the 20 team deserved an exception here. The rule was enforced correctly, as it should have been. What this incident brought to light, especially because of the championship implications, is just how excessive the penalty is and how badly it needs an update.

When Martin Truex jr won it got really emotional I almost cried that win for Jim he should of been really proud of him and that team.

If it wasnt for JJ, Kenseth would be a 3x Champion (2003,2006,2013) and could have won in 2015 & 2017 as well. This guy is in my top 10 all time even if the stats arent there

I get what they're trying to do with the chase setup but it is unfortunate the whole season now comes down to one race. That can be said about any sport with playoffs, but there is so much in racing that is out of the hands of the driver or the crew that it shouldn't come down to one single race.
To be honest, I prefer that over someone clinching the championship three races prior. It's completely impossible to have a perfect points system, anyway. They all have serious flaws, if you look at them enough. Furthermore, I really think that many of the people who hate the chase format are people who don't like dealing with change. Even though they claim to give the format a chance, they really don't simply due to bias. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, of course, but I feel like the chase format is unfairly underrated.
Yeah from a fan perspective the chase format keeps it interesting. Would just be rough to see someone have a season like Truex then lose it because something wasn't screwed on tight off enough months ago in the engine shop (hypothetically speaking). From a driver perspective it can suck, but I also suppose without fans there is no sport so that's who you've got to keep happy!

Its starting to look like nascar picks who they want to win every year,.judging by all the other cars who seem to be in a lower class. I just dont see how 37 other cars cant compete with one. It doesn't add up. They need to do something to where these cars will hold the rd better, to achieve a more believable race. Too many drivers complaining of plowing. except for that one wreck i was rather bored. since watching nascar since the early 80's i'm still getting let down as the years go by. wrecking is part of racing. don't like some one, get them loose and put them in wall, if you can't win. make sure they can't ether. (sets stopwatch)
NASCAR's idiotic rules hurt them again. Just have end-of-the-line or stop-and-go penalties for guys with one too many men over the wall. I don't care that the "seventh man has to be servicing the driver," what matters is the principle that he's out there on pit road, regardless of what he's doing. The fact that Kenseth's championship hopes were ended like this show how much of a travesty this was.

So for the penalty that eliminated Matt Kenneth (right or not it was a rules violation) was caused by his crew chief @04:30. Said seven guys only six six, the seventh jumped over in the heat of the moment.
