    Glad to see you were able to enjoy yourselves despite the crazy weather and conditions - now you know why we headed to eastern canada haha
    We have gone through some small towns that have seen better days- its sad. So it’s Greta to see a place revitalized. And i wish more states took care of ghost towns, protecting them - it would provide revenue, too. We haven’t canoed in so long- watching this makes me realize how much we need to get back to it- so peaceful on the water
    Another great video- stay safe 🤗

    You always have some of the prettiest boon docking locations. With all of the fires, you have a good, defensive location. Sparse fuels, ridge line and hopefully a good shovel (in case). You definitely do not want to try to drive through heavy fuels to get out. Love your videos.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 роки тому

      Thank you! And you raise a good point, too. We always travel with a shovel, and while it's never been used for fire defense it's proven its worth several times just digging ourselves out. 😄

    never heard of this Lake and just love it. Now on my list of places to go. I look forward to your videos more than any other channel just because of places of like this. We only boondock and stay away from people so this is more to our liking

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 роки тому

      Awesome, thank you Paul! If we had our way we'd be boondocking all summer; however, the extreme heat across the West this year has made that goal somewhat challenging. When it's in the upper 90s and I have to be inside 8am to 5pm Monday-Friday to work, a/c has been a God-send. We've spent the past month or two in Montana and Idaho which lacks the high-elevation boondocking that you'll find in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, etc. where we could escape the heat.

  • @gorrdd
    @gorrdd 3 роки тому +1

    Marc,
    The early photo you showed of Philipsburg, indicated how rough it was back then. Life was cheap and people didn't live all that long.
    I think those who prospered the most were the builders who would come in and help build and erect the structures, get paid, and move on before losing any of it to gambling and other popular distractions of the time.
    Too bad you had smoke in your area. We had a little bit of it here in DFW, last week, from there prevailing jetstream and friends in the Reading, PA area had allot more than we did. This has been another bad year for forest fires.
    I remember last year you got chased off toward the Dakotas and eastward in order to escape the smoke.
    What's the plan for this year?
    Gord

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 роки тому +1

      The plan's currently in flux, Gord. Part of me wants to head NW to get on the other side of the smoke, whereas another part of me wants to chart a different course to some areas we have yet to visit. I've got to sit down in the next day or two to figure it out.
      It's the same story in mining towns everywhere. Those who were most successful were usually the suppliers, not the miners.

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 3 роки тому +1

      @@GrandAdventure Yes, the Northwest sounds about right. The Northeast is hazy from the smoke particulate. And the south is still too hot. Wait until late September or early October to head south.
      Yes, the suppliers got the worm for sure. Never forget, "Early worm gets the bird."
      What a scam the early mining rushes were. Everyone feeding on the dreams of others and those who did find something either got robbed or claim jumped, more often than not.
      Gord

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 роки тому +1

      @@gorrdd we were only thinking a little bit south, into northern Nevada. The Ruby Mountains there are on my list and they're quite close from our current campsite in southern Idaho, but cell service is hard to come by in the Rubies and once we leave there, we're in a huge cell dead zone. So that may make more sense once we have Starlink. Also, there are some natural hot springs in far NW Nevada where you can boondock right along the river's hot water, but that may be too low in elevation for the current heat so it makes some sense to wait on that one, too. The planning should all come together in the next 24-48 hours.

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 3 роки тому +1

      @GrandAdventure  3 роки тому

      Thanks so much Larry! As a career claim adjuster for 30+ years I took a special interest in researching insurance options for full-timers. Best I can tell, there are only 3 insurers that write full-time policies that combine first-party coverage on the RV and third-party liability coverage that an RVer would normally obtain from their homeowners or renters policy, if they had a sticks-and-bricks home. Those 3 are GEICO, National General and Progressive (Good Sam simply re-sells NatGen). Given my experience working with National General in my profession, I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole. GEICO only offered unreasonably low liability limits, so we went with Progressive which offered 250/500 BI liability limits.

      Glad that you enjoyed that, Rob! Homie at Large is a wonderful channel to follow, glad that you're enjoying Ed's work as well.
