Thanks for the shaving tip,Geo. I always find it informative, and even if the chin-strap beard does not apply to me, I still learn a technique or two to improve my shaving technique- such as going right alongside the nose area. I do enjoy watching your videos!

Geo, Another great video! I have really learned a lot about shaving from your series, Thanks! I always struggled trying to get straight lines using a multi blade cartridge razor in the past so I will try using a DE and see if I can a decent looking beard this time! I am even thinking of trying a straight because it looks like it gives you the best overall control.

My 64 year old father just gave me (27) the razor his father gave him when he was 20: A little 3 inch golden Apollo safety razor.
I keep a square beard all the time. Thanks to you I can maintain that beard while still being able to use the safety razor. You do good work man.

I've had a chinstrap for 15 yrs. when I started w/ a safety razor last month, I thought I may have some problem but what I've learned is that it's totally ok to brush on some soap. I then take my pinky and follow the strap rubbing the line of cream off. Then just a safe clean shave with my Merkur 20c. When I'm done I tighten up w/ an electric trimmer or even the detail blade on the back of my 1 fusion cartridge.

Love your videos - excellent information. Found my grandfather's Gillette safety razor (40+ years old) and have been using it for a year now. Works better than I imagined - I will NEVER go back to expensive disposables again. Question: Sometimes the knob to open the razor "binds up" a little - is there a way to lubricate the inner parts? What do you use? What do you recommend for regular maintenance? Thanks in advance.

Nice work. I'd love to see you do a series of these type of clips.
Starting at a relatively straight forward style like The Chinstrap,
up to something more complex like The Tony Stark.
    Very interesting.

Me too, thanks. Before it was either a beard trimmed with clippers or a smooth face with bad razor burn from the 5 blade system that cost me about $40 a month. Found your site a year ago and haven't had razor burn issues since. I just now should be thinking about what blade pack I want to buy next. I also get to act like a bad ass elitist when it comes to shaving in conversation with friends.

Great video, Geo. I was wondering, do you know of any straight razors that just use a full DE razor blade? Is there such a thing? I know there are some where you can break the blade in half and use half (btw can you name these ones too?), but I was wondering if there's one that uses the whole blade and you can switch sides after. Thanks.

I invested in a straight razor to cut down on barber cost and and in part to become a better man (23 year old trying to get a head start) I'm finding that getting the lower chinstrap to line up right and symmetrically on both side is really difficult. Especially on the under side. I'm aiming to try and make my strap about 1cm around. Do you have any tips as to how to make it neater? Should I pull up the skin and cut or do you think it would stretch my jawline wrong?

So, something I've been wondering and can't find anything about. To grow a chinstrap/jawline beard, do you have to let your head hair grow out? Most of the people I've seen, even my buddies that have 'em have long curly hair.
