    Hi Roger, you are a life saver! First it is great to find an Ozzie on UA-cam who speaks the same language as me and works in mm and 240v.
    My name is Mike living in Tassie. I am 76 yo and an old dog trying to learn new tricks.
    I have wanted to have a play with CNC for a number of years but could never find a machine within my budget that would do more than carve wood signs that say “Dad' Shed”. To cut a a long story short I have build a CNC router from 17mm aluminium plate, installed Nema23, controllers and power supply from Stepperonline. Also A 2.2 Vevor spindle and DFV.
    I am at the stage of wiring it up and without a mentor (I have an qualified electrician mate who is not CNC savvy) I have been tearing, whats left of my hair out, UNTILL I found this video of yours which has the EXACT same break out board which I purchased without any idea of what I was doing!
    So thanks for the very clear instructions (will have to change a few wires, very pleased I did not try to power up :-))
    However I still have some wiring FOG. Do you have a video that shows DFV to this break out board please?
    I have wired the spindle (again with your video) and it seems to run OK.
    Also the only controller software I could find on this board was a software called Drufell which is a paid software and as I am on a pension it would just add to the cost. How can I get the Mach3 setting to at least make a start.
    All the best and thank again
    Mike

      im 65 and build my son DIY cnc machine. simple easy build, ewery normal men can build own cnc, but some rule need be, windows OS NOT have safe use any machine, need be linux REAL TIME system not windows off line system. or other factory own systems not safe and stabile. and if somethink go broken need all box buy new, expensive and stupid. lot better and cheap have build own cnc machine whit parts, nema motors not cost lot, breakoutboard have 10-20$ only, ols computer can buy 20-40$ pci or pciE paraller port card have cheap 10-20$ buy, better than worst big problems USB cards. and linuxcnc software have FREE and lot better flexiple make own addons than worst mach3 software. if want build safe good machine NOT use windows OS.

    Thank you so much for this easy to follow video. I picked up a really nice and clean home made 3 axis cnc, that had a BOB with parallel port. I was able to follow your video, and get the motors verified that they work. The only additional electronics the previous person had were relays connected to the spindle. Do you have a video of how to wire the E-stop button. Also, your home switched, are they the limit switches?

    I recently purchased all upgrades on everything from electrical, to motors, to ball screws fro my bench top optimill as the cheap kit i got couple years ago was a little under powered, looked at these control boards and coundnt find too much help for them, my old controller is that same red RNR board which are good! after some research i found the uc300 had a lot of info, spec sheets, wiring sheets, wiring and set up videos and works like a dream and easy for full automation and can move all axis at the same time via keyboard controls, im interested to see what the issue is for with you as they are not cheap controllers.I was considering a smc until i found your video on the scams that come along with it! love the videos roger! cheers from chch nz

    Hi Roger, I am so thankfull for this video. I just bought the RED BRD you are demonstating. Yes, 1. Don't install the parallel driver. 2. Your information that the 24Volt side of the Board was consider port #3 solved all my problems installing the E-stop, Limit switches, No where could I find how to get the USB version of Mach3 to talk to the switches. Also having the Gnds for the two sides of the boards separate also corrected a problem. I used a generic schematic to build my CNC. Do you have a diagram for the Red Board BSMCE04U-PP or BSMCED4U-PP. On my board it hard to tell whether d or 0. Again thankes so much for the video and information. The CD did not have anything about the infor. Jerry ATL USA

    Hello Roger, I have the mk4-v usb version of that controller and I can verify it works in Mach 3 version R3.043.062 on a basic windows 10 laptop. When you power it on do you get 2 solid red lights on the side of the controller? One thing I would suggest is when install Mach 3 make sure you do not install the parallel driver. I need to finish documenting an install procedure that worked for me and I could share it with you.

    Great tutorial, i was looking for a good clear limit switch setup and here i have found one,
    also i have noticed that many other are using different pins for the limit switch,
    is there a preferred pin.
    I tried Pin3 or input 3 and all i get is the LimitOV light
    So I have had to use pin input no 2
    As I use pin input no1 for probe
    Again the probe was instructed to number 2 but did not work
    And So it is in pin number 1 input
    I have exactly the same board as you
    So I wonder if either the firmware is setup different, or is it the software that uses different settings.

    Hi Roger, If the power supply is at 5V (orange wire), should I set the switch on top of my DN542T driver to 5V? (It can be either on 24V or on 5V).

    • @DogSerious
      @DogSerious Рік тому

      5 volts only, do not use the 24 volt switch on the drivers unless you have a specific set up.
      Most of these small mach3 boards all supply 5volts to the drivers pulse and direction pins.

  • @gizmobowen
    @gizmobowen 2 роки тому +2

    I don't understand how the homing switches can be wired in parallel. I know it's done but I ended up just wiring all mine to different inputs. Are the switches normally open? When you home each axis, does the axis move, engage the switch and then back off so it can then go to the next switch? I imagine that if the switch stayed engaged then the system wouldn't see any change when it went to the next input.

    • @aarenbebar
      @aarenbebar 2 роки тому +1

      The 24V is for operation of the limit switches (in this video) and other I/O ports. The larger power supply in the video is what powers the stepper motors through the stepper motor drivers.

      stepper motor no matter voltage what used, i use 40V and many perfect machine use 80V no matter what nema motor use, current have important only, if motor max current have normal DIY cnc nema 23 about 4Ampere, drivers need setting max current is little bit less than max current 4A. etc, stepper motor say nominal volt is 5V can use 38V power supply and driver can use max 40-42V about. or if have better driver etc, DM860 model ca use max 80 volt power to motors. current have only important must be setting driver dip SW to max motor current better little bit less, normal DIY cnc machine used DM556 drivers and max volt have about 40V and current setting max motor current about normal good nema motor is 3-4Ampere. minimum motor cnc need be 3NM torgue motor 475 OZ.

    Hi. I hope you are still responding to questions. I am very new to CNC routing and am in the process of choosing and ordering parts for my first dyi CNC router. Could you tell me if you must pair a Mach 3 control board with Mach 3 software? As I am just starting out in CNC routing I would prefer to take advantage of the many choices of free soft wear that are available. The Mach 3 board looks much more versatile than the Arduino board that came with the stepper motor kit that I have purchased. FYI…your video’s have helped me decide to “take the plunge” into the CNC world of woodworking. Thank you for taking the time to make them.

    • @spudnickuk

      I hope he does do some replies as many have added questions.
      Anyway I was using a GRBL
      But it had limitations
      So I opted to a Mach3 cnc 3040 with a 800w vfd machine
      For which is plenty for my needs
      With a match 3 board and software. You will have to calibrate the stepper motors first
      Then get the spindle to operate if your using a spindle with a controller
      Then once you get them ok
      Then setup you limit switches and soft limits
      And for let's see how you get on 👍

      On the other side of things there are new developers that make boards but do not get a load manufactured so hence the high price.

      I have been looking at the Acorn CNC controllers very professional looking systems. I really want to go to a ethernet controller instead of the USB style, I think if you are going to get serious about cnc work, an ethernet connected control board is the way to go.

    What version of windows? I have been trying to get same board to work for me but keeps saying rnrmotion card not found. Was working fine last February when i went to work. But now not working. In the process of creating a virtual machine in hopes that it will work.

      You will need a driver for the board, it is available on my Patron page

    If anyone is having trouble the red controller he is using is not supported by Windows 8 and newer. I have Windows 10 and looking to dual boot when I find an older windows operating system.

      If your computer is a 32 or 32/64-bit operating system Mach3 and this card WILL work on win XP, 7, 8, and 10.
      If your computer is 64-bit only operating system Mach3 and this card WILL NOT.

      Unfortunately i also don't have the 32 bit win 10, but downloaded Win 7. Haven't had a chance to test if that solves the problem. I will post when I do.

      Ok kind sir. I have followed everything to the T up until the point just before you hit reset in mach3. My light on the board is slow flashing. But I noticed that once you hit reset and you went down to the board it was on steady. Mine is still flashing. Does this tell you that I might have something messed up in mach3. I have all 3 axis enabled.
