Hi! Thank you for a great video! Big fan of the channel. In terms of comparison, can you maybe do, landscape, human portrait and moving subject? I’m really interested in seeing how what Sony can do in terms of dynamic range and how it handles contrasting scenes ( quite a few reviewers mentioned that highlights get blown out quite often. I’m also interested in how it does in terms of details, I’m a big fan of the natural approach they are taking with minimal computerisation, so it would be great to see how human skin looks, as many phones just blur it out. And of course your workflow with this phone and how you envision it’s going to change after Sony gets the raw support. Once again thank you for the video and keep up the good work!
Hey, I love your channel! I have the Sony Xperia 1 but have also had LG's in the past. In my opinion, these two brands are the best with camera technology in a smartphone, specifically the manual aspect of it all! I would love to see a broken down camera comparison of Sony Xperia 1 ii and the LG V60 and/or a solo review of the LG V60 thin q!
Phone is great, but I've seen noticeable pin cushion distortion on GSMarena's camera samples of the main lens and also noticeable on DPreviews's sample gallery. It's not super noticeable in normal/close up shots, but once you know it's there, it definitely nags at you. The issue here is that Sony went with an equivalent 24mm on the main lens (as opposed to 26mm on the previous generation). The distortion is on the main lens and I think it comes from the lens itself, but the 24mm focal length definitely doesn't help the situation. It's so bad that you can see the edge of buildings bulged as a bow. The problem is that Sony has distortion correction only on the ultra wide lens, and not on the main one in the camera settings, so there is no way to circumvent this thing, save for post processing. Perhaps something to look at in your comparison video would be distortion of building edges vs other flagships.
I've the experia1 and it doesn't have this problem on the main camera,so I'll be very surprised if its a problem on the mk11,even if its 24mm,suprised that this professional photographer hasn't mentioned it either?

Everyone forgets about the ergonomics of the camera phone. Everyone's just looking for bragging rights of I have the best camera. Which if course is completely subjective. Every flagship phone this year and last year takes great photos. Stop pulling hairs and pick something that is comfortable and a joy to use which excites you and gives you enjoyment. Let's be honest, if your going to be staring at an edge of a picture taken on a cellphone you really should not be buying a phone for photos. Idiots......
@@gareths9574 so true, my favorite spec from the phone is that 4k display.. I spend more time watching videos on UA-cam and Netflix than the camera app...I only take pictures sometime
If you do a camera comparison against other devices I'd like to see both the default and pro camera app in those results. The reason being is because I wanna see how well it works as a sort of point and shoot since phones position themselves as such. I also want to see how much of a differences in the kind of photo you can produce in pro mode when you decide on a specific look as opposed to letting the phone decide for you.
To be honest, as I mention before, all flagships take great pictures today. If u do a blind test, its very hard to find out which photo was taken from Xperia, or Iphone, or Galaxy, etc... But I stick with Nokia 9, Mark II and P40.
Actually you kinda able to tell. For mark 2 the samples are giving a clear kind of feel which DSLR lens have. Although there might be minor noise but it have the natural hdr and clear feeling.
I'm a casual but I'm looking to get a capable photo shooting smartphone and waited to upgrade from my OnePlus 1 (yes I know a dinosaur) to the Xperia 1 ii. I had been tracking it since it was announced and don't regret pre-ordering it, except Sony sent me an email June 17th to say the initial delivery date (June 18th) was moved to almost a month and a half later (July 31st). For the first time that I spend more than 500€ for a phone, I'm pretty disappointed in Sony's communication department. Thanks for the video though, I was waiting for it. I literally watch every Xperia 1 ii content on UA-cam (except all the fake comparison videos). On that note, for your comparison video, I would personally like to see pictures of people in different lighting, moving subjects (people, objects, animals...), slow motion videos, regular videos and indoor pictures. Keep up your great work.
I think a camera comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the Sony Experia 1 ii vs apple/google/samsung would be nice to see. All these other companies have phones that are heavy in computational photography so things like HDR and high dynamic range situations look really good. However, the new Experia 1 ii seems to be a throwback to a traditional camera experience. Things like high FPS, fast autofocus, and long exposures are the hallmarks of that experience. I would love to see someone who is well versed in photography, actually use these parameters to show what this camera phone can do.
Awesome! I'd love if you talked more about the actual quality that comes out of this phone when it comes to things like dynamic range, detail level, noise and low light performance.

No point, it's the exact same as with any other Android phone. The only exception with Sony phones is, you get a physical shutter button, and the two-stage press works on it. Nothing new about that, though. My Z5 and XZ2 both have it as well.
@@darthmandude the sensor size on the Xperia 1ii is very similar to the ZV-1. The Xperia 1ii is the best of both worlds essentially. I don't see the point in carrying a dedicated camera made by Sony if they made a phone with the same technology as their camera lineup.
Also, I say for your comparison, do a three way. Include huawei (like a p40 since it is so revered), and maybe an Apple or Samsung product as the third.
I would love to see a comparison, but with pro mode. For example my S10 takes decent photos with auto mode, but when i shift to the pro mode, the photos looks completely different, very narrow dynamic range because there's no HDR. (In Auto Mode even if i turn off the HDR, it still apply some highlight compression, in pro mode doesn't) I want to see how Sony has been improving in the dynamic range with single shot and how is it compared to other phone with single shot on pro mode.
P30, iphone 11 pro, S20 Ultra, is a good line up, if you can get a P40 as well, as they, as well as the S20U has a slightly bigger sensor on their camera, you can do an up and down on how well they harness those big sensor (like with the S20U being unable to properly focus with such tight bokeh, etc) another addition the dark horse Oneplus 8, they actually have a pretty impressive sensor under it now, seeing how it's gonna be the cheapest in the lineup (not counting Huaweis, as really, buying them now is just bad decision). Id like to not only hear image quality impression on different condition in auto, but also how well they can cope with human input (whether use native or 3rd party app) its important to add manual comparison as that's a new look Into them not many people dive that far, most just stuck on doing auto review and that's kinda a shame. the experience in picture taking would be nice as well.
Would love to see a comparison with Pixel phones as they usually end up on top when it comes to camera quality. Comparing HDR effects and how the camera performs in low light (even without the night sight stuff). As well, even though they're not in the same league, it'd cool to see the Sony compared to a DSLR just to see how it does.
If you look into more phone, please consider the One Plus 8. They've really upped their game in regards to camera. Would love to see your take on it as you use other devices.
Hi could you do a tutorial on how to use the pro camera mode? I'm interested the xperia 5 ii but I know nothing about photography though I want to learn!
it has nightscene detection in the auto mode and in the stockcamera app and uses a longer exposure there so it does have some kind of nightmode. it just does not make daylight from a nightscene what google does.
Please can you please elaborate more on selfie quality and portrait mode quality. Second selfie and selfie portrait short under blue sky. Is the sky blown out or the hdr got that covered
Thanks for a great video! I'd love to know you're thoughts and comparisons for this and the Huawei P40 pro... You seem to actually review the cameras performance and not just compare spec! Thanks again
From last year's 1 to this mark 2, the upgrades are really noticeable. And this is only the camera side that you're talking about here. I'm definitely waiting for this phone, hopefully I can get one this week. Can't wait to see what they'll do for the mk III, maybe variable aperture, it'd be awesome.

World number one photography channel
Dpreview. Ahahahahah what a twat fest of a page. Full of fan boys and comments of gas syndrome kids. My camera is bigger than yours blah blah blah.
GSM arena reviews are shit
@@gareths9574 so true, my favorite spec from the phone is that 4k display.. I spend more time watching videos on UA-cam and Netflix than the camera app...I only take pictures sometime
If you do a camera comparison against other devices I'd like to see both the default and pro camera app in those results. The reason being is because I wanna see how well it works as a sort of point and shoot since phones position themselves as such. I also want to see how much of a differences in the kind of photo you can produce in pro mode when you decide on a specific look as opposed to letting the phone decide for you.
looking forward to a comparison video for sure. This might be my next phone.
Yes and an impressive departure from earlier smartphones
Thank you, this was a great video. Cant wait for the xperia 1 II..
Mind blowing how far cameras on phone have come !
Would love a video comparison between Xperia 1 or 5 and Xperia 1 ii.
Awesome! I'd love if you talked more about the actual quality that comes out of this phone when it comes to things like dynamic range, detail level, noise and low light performance.
OMG. It turns out to be a mini Alpha having a sim card in it =))
I like sony not because of cameras their user interface is also their is fun in using their phone. They are real premium devices. People forget about periscope lense,48,64&108mp cameras.12mp only changed the game.love you sony
Supposedly the phone can be used as a screen for cameras like the A7riii, with touchscreen control and functionality. Can this be showcased?
No point, it's the exact same as with any other Android phone. The only exception with Sony phones is, you get a physical shutter button, and the two-stage press works on it. Nothing new about that, though. My Z5 and XZ2 both have it as well.
@@ziginox Wait what. Any phone can be used? Wow I had no idea 😅. Gonna try it with my Note 9 then!
Just got my Sony ZV-1! Looking forward to trying out the Xperia Mkii. Sony is delivering this year!
Why not just get the Xperia mkii? It does everything the ZV-1 does and much more
@@bioroid09 different sensor size, better lens, and it's a separate, dedicated device.
@@darthmandude the sensor size on the Xperia 1ii is very similar to the ZV-1. The Xperia 1ii is the best of both worlds essentially. I don't see the point in carrying a dedicated camera made by Sony if they made a phone with the same technology as their camera lineup.
@@bioroid09 ZV-1 is primarily a vlogging cam. That's why it is better than any smartphone.
@@peterdurum434 So you're telling me that the Iphone is not a good vlogging camera?
Wow! Looking forward to mine in July 😁
PLease include Pixel 3a in the picture comparison video, see how does it fare in photography with a mid-ranger Pixel.
Also, I say for your comparison, do a three way. Include huawei (like a p40 since it is so revered), and maybe an Apple or Samsung product as the third.
This is what we should actually call a pro camera for a smartphone.
Let's wait and see which other smartphones companies will copy it
More portrait mode! Skin tones and selfie camera, great video! Keep it up
Re: the telephoto lens, I've read that it's actually 20mp explaining for the sharper images at higher zoom range.
It actually is. And other 2 are 12.2 MP
Is it? can I get the source?
@@johnlincoln6279 on Wikipedia you can find all sensors produced by Sony. Main one is imx557 and ultrawide is imx363
Great video, really useful.
What's the stabilisation like for video?

I would love to see a comparison, but with pro mode.
For example my S10 takes decent photos with auto mode, but when i shift to the pro mode, the photos looks completely different, very narrow dynamic range because there's no HDR. (In Auto Mode even if i turn off the HDR, it still apply some highlight compression, in pro mode doesn't)
I want to see how Sony has been improving in the dynamic range with single shot and how is it compared to other phone with single shot on pro mode.
There is DRO/HDR in the pro app, i think gsmarena had some sample shots with that on.
@@lucretius8050 yep, but DRO raise the iso, and HDR disable burst shooting i guess.. idk, but is disabled by default
P30, iphone 11 pro, S20 Ultra, is a good line up, if you can get a P40 as well, as they, as well as the S20U has a slightly bigger sensor on their camera, you can do an up and down on how well they harness those big sensor (like with the S20U being unable to properly focus with such tight bokeh, etc)
another addition the dark horse Oneplus 8, they actually have a pretty impressive sensor under it now, seeing how it's gonna be the cheapest in the lineup (not counting Huaweis, as really, buying them now is just bad decision).
2000: my phone has a camera
2020: my camera has a phone
I'd like to see someone take this to the extreme, like the old galaxy K zoom but with updated technology/processing/sensors etc.
U did it man, I'm a fan
Would love to see a comparison with Pixel phones as they usually end up on top when it comes to camera quality. Comparing HDR effects and how the camera performs in low light (even without the night sight stuff). As well, even though they're not in the same league, it'd cool to see the Sony compared to a DSLR just to see how it does.
If you look into more phone, please consider the One Plus 8. They've really upped their game in regards to camera. Would love to see your take on it as you use other devices.
THIS is the video I was looking for, thx!
Also, your minor issues are valid. Hopefully Sony adds/fixes those soon. How is it with 16:9 video and images then?
Question : optical zoom is up to 3x , what about digital Zoom ? Does it go to 30X? Thanks
8x
Thank you for sharing this video on this fantastic phone....would love to purchase it.
While comparing with iphone nd samsung plz show both resumts of sony default canera app nd pro mode camera app
Does anyone know of a filter case for this? Would love to have a variable ND permanently attached lol. Also what is the native ISO?
Thanks for a great video! I'd love to know you're thoughts and comparisons for this and the Huawei P40 pro... You seem to actually review the cameras performance and not just compare spec! Thanks again
Does the basic app have "time shift burst"?
Z5 premium had it and was the best camera app I ever used.
I think it does not have timeshift burst but it has continuous shot in the photopro all where it takes 20 shots per second.
My Xperia 1 has it. I think mark II will have it too
I think that you need to install it from Google play and then it will appear in the camera modes
I'd like to see a comparison with the huawei P30 pro I really loved the camera in there, my mom has it, I was able to shoot some really cool images with that phone, I thought it was better than the xperia 1 I own, at least in terms of telephoto shooting.
By the way do you know if the photo pro app will be available for the xperia 1? It seems really cool.
P40 pro plus vs xperia 1 II photo comparison plssss
Awesome video!
How about front facing camera? It will be great to review that too. Whether the pro app is still useable for front camera.
Very nice video! Very informative! I would love you are a detailed comparison with other top Flagships. Thank you
On last year's Xperia 1, does this one overheat rather quickly in Cinema Pro mode?
Quick question, what does the "lock" slider do in the "Photo Pro"?
Keep your settings locked to avoid change of values
@@ES-qy2ju thank you
I would love to see a s20 ultra vs. the MK II. Your knowledge and presentation were fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed this episode.
Thank you for this review. From what you have said thus far I am convinced that placing a pre-order for this device was a great decision.
Does Camera Pro come with a Auto Iso with a minimum Shutterspeed I can setup and does it remember settings after restarting the app?
What is it like when you are outside can you see the screen to take the shot? As most smart phones you can't see anything when the sun is shining on the screen.
Great video. What grip are you using?
Great video and great phone! Can't wait to see the comparison you mentioned! Regards from Spain!
Would love to see a manual mode battle between the xperia 1 mark 2 and the lg v60 which i think is pretty much the only competition in manual mode! That one would be awesome to see! Anyway great vid!
Is there auto iso in Cinema Pro mode?
I would like to move from my Xperia One to the new Mark II, but in the meantime is there any indication that the PhotoPro app will be available & backwards compatible to the original Xperia One?
Great video, a comparison video with its main competitors will be great!
With the photo pro app, can you shoot in 3:2 aspect ratio?
Lil question, can you shoot normal 16:9 video on cinema pro? And if not, what can I do to make it 16:9?
The Color of your video is different than the previous one...I love it, so nice!
Hi Sir is there a real time face tracking or object tracking or follow mode in the PRO video/cinema app mode?
Any idea whether you can use the Cinema Pro app with any basic consumer 2 or 3 axis gimbals?
Bought a Mark II, gonna sell my S20 Ultra, so yeah a camera comparison would be great to make sure I did the right thing.
Search one up, someone already made one and the xperia mkii performed very professionally

Best camera set up on a mobile phone
Well actually there are besser Setups Out there. Oppo with the x2 pro has a far larger main sensor (1/1.4 to 1/1.7), a far larger ultrawide angle sensor (1/2 to 1/2.6) and 5 times optical zoom. OnePlus has the same wide and ultrawide and a similar telephoto.
