The original drummer Travis Smith is the creator of the drums in this song, my favorite song that Alex Bent wrote with trivium is Amongst the shadows and the stones...check it out
Even though they were simpler, I think Travis' drum parts served the songs better, but his live playing wasnt nearly as good as Alex. I sometimes feel like Alex overplays in certain parts and the drums end up sounding great, but outshining the song itself
@@Squall6575 I think the first three Trivium albums were fine with Travis' drumming but Alex may have been a better fit for Shogun, 'cause it was overall a lot more complex than any of the previous albums. Alex creates drum lines that fit the songs, mostly. There are a few songs that could've used something simpler.
This song was made by the band with a different drummer. If you want an idea of the compositions he made for the band, check out "Thrown into the fire" on his channel.
Metronomes take lessons from Alex Bent. In all seriousness definitely check out Trivium. The band definitely shifted into a higher gear once Alex joined. (First album with him): "The Sin and the Sentence" And "What The Dead Men Say" just came out a month or so ago. This song is from their 2008 album Shogun. Recorded originally with their original drummer Travis Smith
Shogun is probably my favorite album from Trivium, this song leads off that album. The record vocals are more metal as you’ll find out with that Napster search lol
Finally!!! Anthony Barone next!! Edit: you should react to one of the songs Alex wrote. This is a song written by one of Trivium’s old drummers. Alex’s songs are much crazier and he really shines through even more there.
Funny fact said by Alex himself, he never studied to play drums, he just learned by watching all kind of drummers, watching UA-cam covers and stuff like that
Thank you so much for doing this guy! He’s such an underrated drummer. Unfortunately, this song and drum parts were from another drummer. Alex joined around 2017 and has only drummed on their latest two albums. If you truly want to see his genius, please check out the songs: “The Sin and the Sentence”, “Beyond Oblivion”, “Betrayer”, and “What the Dead Men Say”. All of those drum play throughs are on his channel and are phenomenal. You will not be disappointed! Hope you can one day do a drum analysis video on one of those songs! Again, thanks so much for giving Alex some light!! :)
Alex is solid. I'll echo others here that recommend checking out one of the playthroughs on his channel. Betrayer and The Revanchist are two impressive tracks for drum work he has written.
Alex is great. I have watched him a ton, both live and on his channel and in Matt Heafy's live streams of the shows, and he is always so smooth and consistent. He *is* a student of drumming and wants to learn as much by watching and listening to drummers from all styles. Primarily through UA-cam and listening to and watching drum videos of the greats. He is also genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with. True class.
You should look at some of their newer songs, where Alex has actually written the parts! Like catastrophe, or the sin and the sentence (the sin and the sentence would probably be really good for you because you would see how he uses his double rides and splashes !
sounds like you solved your problem man. all the other vids, audio, quality been great. your doing great man, no probs on my end. gj ur good. just save your money like everyone else who wants something. no brainer, save and get what you want.
For your Information Junkdrummer TV: In an Interview with the UA-camr Alex Hefner he tell him that he practicing all this what he can do and play now on the Drum hes practicing all himself, just with help of watching a lot of Prodrummers and online Drum Lessons on UA-cam end Elsewhere ond the Web.
If you liked these parts - have a look at the drummer Travis, Triviums drummer in 2007 who wrote this track before Alex joined in 2016. There’s a part in a song called “Insurrection” you’d enjoy
Another great reaction Steve! If I can offer a suggestion, I can't recommend enough to check out "Album drum tracking: Ulcerate - Stare Into Death and Be Still" by J Saint Merat. Some of the tastiest, most dynamic extreme metal drumming I've ever heard. You've reacted to several impressive extreme metal drummers, but there's something special about this guy and this band.
Travis Smith wrote the drum parts for this song, he uses the same double kick pattern in the verses in other songs of theirs like The Deceived, Suffocating Sight, Drowned and Torn Asunder; Ascendancy. It's one pattern that sets him apart from other metal drummers; too good; great reaction!
Ooh man soo good you just reacted to Alex and Trivium. He just got some drum playthroughs of Trivium's album "The sin and the sentence" in his channel. Betrayer, Beyond oblivion, and The revanchist are amazing drum stuff to watch!
Would love to hear your thoughts on Eloy Casagrande's playing. His drumming is intense. He drums for Sepultura currently. Their recent track, Means to an End, is pretty tight. He's uploaded a drum playthrough to his UA-cam channel.
This song is one of their second album shogun, and Alex wasn’t in their band till the sin and the sentence. So I would recommend that you react to that
Bent is anazing. Most of us Trivium fans have liked them from their debut in 1999, Bent is their 4th drummer. With that said, their last 2 records have been phenomenal, and alot of credit go to Alex for pushing it up there. Check him out playing “Beyond Oblivion “, as most drum coachs watch him on that song, he’s all over the place with no sweat.
Look at Sin and the Sentence or Beyond Oblivion, or anything off What The Dead Men Say for parts he wrote. Older music from a few drummers ago, as others have pointed out.
In a recent video on another channel, Alex mentioned he learned to play drums watching UA-cam videos. You should check out some of the stuff on his channel. He has a few videos of himself playing some of the songs off of the Sin and the Sentence. Basically it looks like he is playing to tracks and only supplying the drum parts. And yes, I am pretty sure he is playing to a click.
His drumming on "Betrayer" is amazing, it's amusing, it's my least favorite song from "The Sin and the Sentence", but the technical ability on that song is mind blowing
One of my all time favourite Alex Bent videos is from way back in his time in Arkaik. This shows of his death metal chops, he is so inventive. This performance has it all, showmanship, throwing in some traditional grip, breakneck speed and of course some cowbell! Its a crazy transition from these guys through to Trivium. ua-cam.com/video/RFSQf0ynsZg/v-deo.html
Woooooooooooo!!!! Great analysis of Alex. If you ever consider doing another Alex vid check out Beyond Oblivion on his channel. Here’s my shameless plug for a request of Gee Anzalone of Dragonforce or even Aquiles Priester since he’s filling in on the US tour. Both have great content on their channels. Cheers!
Thank you for reacting to Alex Bent! However please react to a song he wrote. He has some playthroughs on his UA-cam channel from their last album. You should check out "Betrayer", "The Sin and The Sentence", or "Beyond Oblivion"
Man, you have to make reaction video of alex’s song. This song was made by their first drummer Travis Smith. Alex made the sin And the sentence album And What the dead men say.
You should check out the 2 newest albums they've recorded (The Sin And The Sentence, What The Dead Men Say) In those albums Alex did the drum parts and is freaking amazing!
You'd really enjoy Trivium 🤘🏻 Alex is their 5th drummer if I recall correctly, but they get consistently better! Dive in and enjoy all their stuff. The title track of this album (Shogun, drummed by their OG drummer Travis Smith) is fucking flawless 👌🏼
I really like your commentary here. Been watching your videos for a short while, and you've given me lots of great tips (only been playing for a year, but I'm very passionate about learning drums). Alex Bent is truly amazing. If I may suggest, I would like to see your reaction and thoughts to Dream Theater's "Pale Blue Dot". Mike Mangini has a live drum cam video of it on his own channel. Mike Mangini is in my opinion one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all time. Would love to see what you think of it. Cheers. Keep up the good work. 🤘🏿
Deathcore might not be your thing but their is a drum playthrough of Demolisher by Slaughter to Prevail. and it doesnt have vocals (usually the part people cant get into lol). you should check it out
The kicks are triggered which is why they all sound uniform and powerful without a lot of power behind them. Not saying it's wrong.... You should react to NothingMore drum cams. Ben's drum break down of This is the Time (Ballast) is killer and spot on to the record.
For laptops, i would recommend a budget gaming laptop that has a dedicated GPU. Stuff like dell G series laptops or similar, can usually be had around 1,000$
Any plans to check out Darkside from Mgła? Different flavor of metal but Alex’s technique kinda reminds me of him, very calm and collected. Check out Exercises in Futility II or V - 5 is him doing some real Jedi shit while 2 is more “normal”
You should check out Dan Presland he's the drummer for Ne Obliviscaris and he has his own UA-cam channel. Look for the drum cover for there song And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope
I can understand how people can do this. I’ve gotten pretty fast. But man if you go that fast for more than like 30 seconds and you’ll be too tired to finish the song. Lol these people have godlike stamina.
Could you please do some videos on a band called Symphony X? I don't remember the drummers name but some good songs are Underworld and Kiss of fire. If you could do this i'd really appreciate it. thanks keep up the good work.
Well worth checking out some of Alex's studio recorded play throughs.
Definitely check out the latest 2 trivium albums. Hear the parts he actually wrote .... Amazing drummer.
Yea, the “ Betrayer “ play through is good .
Revanchist is an absolute masterclass, Alex was firing on all cylinders for that one. Definitely recommend checking it out as well.
To echo some of the other comments here, he wrote parts on the two latest Trivium albums, "The Sin and The Sentence" and "What the Dead Men Say."
I agree with these tracks for Alex Bent. 👆
which both are fucking amazing albums!
He also wrote some drum parts for Testament that Gene performed in the studio. Check out Matt Heafy's interview he did recently with Alex.
to be fair, Bent didn't write these drum parts. That being said - he executes is FLAWLESSLY.
Enter The Void I don’t think that’s the point of the video... he’s just reacting to Alex’s technique.
True, his own stuff is even more insane. Sin and the sentence.
I came for this.
He is self taught as well!!
The original drummer Travis Smith is the creator of the drums in this song, my favorite song that Alex Bent wrote with trivium is Amongst the shadows and the stones...check it out
Sickness is also great
Evrything he has done has been great tbh
Even though they were simpler, I think Travis' drum parts served the songs better, but his live playing wasnt nearly as good as Alex. I sometimes feel like Alex overplays in certain parts and the drums end up sounding great, but outshining the song itself

Alex creates drum lines that fit the songs, mostly. There are a few songs that could've used something simpler.
alex makes it look easy, and i dont think he's peaked yet, you definitely need to check out their latest record
If he hasnt peaked, Im looking forward to when he does.
Trivium is hitting their prime with Alex, I’m loving their new material
Fun fact: Bent actually filled in for The Atomic Clock himself (Gene Hoglan) in Testament back in 2015!
Tough task right there
He was like 20 years old too
This song was made by the band with a different drummer. If you want an idea of the compositions he made for the band, check out "Thrown into the fire" on his channel.
Agreed.
I'd personally go with Betrayer, to be honest
What The Dead Men Say album also really highlights his drumming too.
But still doesn’t change HIS technique. But yes changes analysis of writing.
@@u563rick6 That's true, but you could showcase his style of playing better if it's something he wrote.
Metronomes take lessons from Alex Bent.
In all seriousness definitely check out Trivium. The band definitely shifted into a higher gear once Alex joined. (First album with him): "The Sin and the Sentence"
And "What The Dead Men Say" just came out a month or so ago.

Shogun is probably my favorite album from Trivium, this song leads off that album. The record vocals are more metal as you’ll find out with that Napster search lol
Also that Chris Adler mention made me wonder if you’ve heard the new Lamb of God album with the new drummer?
Finally!!! Anthony Barone next!!

"thrown into the fire" was never my favourite from tsats, but that drum playthrough? dear lord.
About time Alex is getting the recognition he deserves. I am not a drum expert but the drums on the last 2 albums are ridiculous!
6:30 - "this guys got his shit together".
yea i'd die on that hill
"I'll see you on Napster later.... "
.... Bruh
Alex is solid.
I'll echo others here that recommend checking out one of the playthroughs on his channel. Betrayer and The Revanchist are two impressive tracks for drum work he has written.
Many of the song's on the first album with Alex on drums (The Sin and the Sentence) he recorded in one go, FIRST TIME. The man's a fluid monster
Alex is great. I have watched him a ton, both live and on his channel and in Matt Heafy's live streams of the shows, and he is always so smooth and consistent. Hell Yea! You reacted to one of my request. Alex is a badass and an inspiration 🤘
I legit laughed out loud at the 'Brann Dailor drum fills.' So perfect.
You should look at some of their newer songs, where Alex has actually written the parts! Like catastrophe, or the sin and the sentence (the sin and the sentence would probably be really good for you because you would see how he uses his double rides and splashes !

Check out Alex Rudinger’s playthrough of “When a demon defiles a witch”, it’s gnarly!
Alex is a master at his craft, a natural gift and talent 🤟😆 Trivium live, got tickets for their next show!.!
It’s hard not to love Trivium, I am a new fan of them . And Alex is a bad ass
Alex is from my hometown see his friends at the bar I work at all the time also plays for a cover band every once in a while really cool dude!
Love me some Trivium! Alex Bent is a beast. Great review and explanation of his technique.
If you liked these parts - have a look at the drummer Travis, Triviums drummer in 2007 who wrote this track before Alex joined in 2016. There’s a part in a song called “Insurrection” you’d enjoy
All the members of Trivium are masters of their instruments, they are a well-oiled machine together.
Alex is one of the GOATs
Love this reaction, it’s very accurate

John Dolymian: Toxicity. Chop Suey is great, but Truly the song Toxicity is a great showcase of his Playing.

You’re so right about tasteful double bass at before 5:20

Alex is a god. Definitely check out his videos from the last 2 Trivium albums, The Sin And The Sentence and What The Dead Men Say.
You have to check out Eloy Casagrande Desperate Cry ( LIVE ) or Manipulation of tragedy ( STUDIO ) or Isolation ( STUDIO ). This man is a beast.
Check out his play through of Sever the Hand!
When you were taking about how hes just floating on the bass drum, most metal drummers these days use triggers so it doesnt matter how hard they hit
Good that it’s a live performance, but you check out a song that’s actually Alex’s song 🙌
React to "Betrayer" from Trivium, Alex Bent playtrought. Is a really master piece, or something new from "what the dead men say "
Man, you have to make reaction video of alex’s song. This song was made by their first drummer Travis Smith. Alex made the sin And the sentence album And What the dead men say.
Please please please do Alex Rudinger from Whitechapel doing “When a Demon Defiles a Witch” you simply won’t regret it
You need to check out the new album. He has only been the drummer for the most recent two albums. Do a reaction to what the dead men say.
If you chack out some of his studio stuff from some of the more recent trivium songs which he took part in writing, it's very solid.
Nice reaction! Waiting for the john dolmayan video!

You need to check out Eric Moore and Michael Cavanagh from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Duo drummer set up that kick ass!
Definitely earned a subscription for the "Spotify can suck a dick" line.
Still think you should check out Anthony Barone's play through of Gravesinger!
Check out some of Alex's work when he was with Battlecross. A bit more thrashy than the trivium stuff.

should really check out Alex Bent's youtube channel, he has playthoughs of the sin and the sentence songs, which he wrote the drum parts for
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think he said in an interview once he learned drumming from youtube

Where's my Dirk Verbeuren reaction? Alex reminds me so much of him. Dirk is the most underrated drummer out there!

Love his cover of Death- crystal mountain

Also, Alex played for Battlecross for years before Trivium
Have to check out title track on the new album. WHAT THE DEAD MEN SAY
I wonder what he'd think of Vinny Daze from Demolition Hammer. Total caveman drumming with full body weight put in every hit. xD
You gotta look at his playthrough of Betrayer
Dude you gotta react to the drum playt through on Slaughter To Prevail - Demolisher!! Dude is a beast!
You should see some of his old crazy death metal stuff when he just goes crazy
I can understand how people can do this. I’ve gotten pretty fast. But man if you go that fast for more than like 30 seconds and you’ll be too tired to finish the song. Lol these people have godlike stamina.

If you could do this i'd really appreciate it.
thanks keep up the good work.
Jason Rullo, right?
You gotta listen to something from triviums last 2 albums since alex wrote those drum parts
Alex is a robot. His movement is so fluid. You need to watch Sin and the Silence
Please checkout Adam grey playing hook line and sinner by Texas in July
Check out In The Court Of the Dragon by Trivium, it's new and absolutely crushes
Love your channel! Would love to see a reaction to Jocke Wallgren - Deceiver of the Gods!
He has play throughs on his UA-cam channel. Please check one out!
You should look at Alex Bents drums fro battlecross
Travis writing was something else
