I'm so glad I found this! I lived in Hanoi in 2008-2009 and this was a snack I'd often have. I tried making the fermented version of this, but it did not turn out well. Thanks for sharing this recipe and please share more from northern Vietnam!
I am coming to the end of a three week stay in Ho Chi Min City and as I was staying in an apartment I went to the local Coop-Mart to grab some groceries for breakfast during my stay. It was here that I came across Sữa Chua Nếp Cẩm. At first I grabbed some tubs of this product as it appeared to be yoghurt with fruit, I was going on the picture on the side of the tub. I would serve it over some chopped fruit such as banana or kiwi fruit for breakfast, it was delicious. However doing some online research lead me to your video - what a surprise to find that the 'fruit' was black rice. Absolutely delicious dish that I will certainly make when I get back to Brisbane. I already make my own yoghurt at home so look forward to trying it with the black rice component.
