    Great video once again Rex!!
I read about the glow plug heat difference and how it effects timing of the engine on RCtech forum and I've been waiting and watching to see if anyone would touch on the subject and your the first I've seen 👍👍
Such an important thing to understand IMO.
I'm glad you have had time to make all these great videos and I know many of us enthusiasts really appreciate it.
Most engine modders keep all they know to themselves and don't care to share but not you and this is one of the reasons why you've become my favorite engine modifier and why I want to buy a couple of engines from you, even though I have enough engines I want to support good people like yourself and experience the difference in greatness that you exhibit.
Great work as always and every video is a gem sir👍👍

Shorter plug will also change the timing, in addition to the compression loss.

Love your vids Rex, very informative as always. Could you go more in-depth on engine tuning, such as can you read glow plugs for tuning the same way some automotive engine builders read spark plugs to gauge the tune.? Thanks

I liked the dynamite lipo glow igniter, but when my second one died within a couple months just like my first one, I gave up on them. I keep two standard nimh igniters charged at all times, and I keep an igniter with banana plugs that works with my starter box in my pit bag.
When it comes to standard glow plugs, I do something I call a Todd Turbo(pat. pend) even when using the correct length (short/long) plug, the plug usually either sticks out into the combustion chamber slightly, or is slightly recessed into the button. This is due to variances in different manufacturers engines.
I have a bunch of copper washers I have gathered over the years, and I use them to adjust the glow plug slightly up and down to get it perfectly flush in the button.
If the plug sticks out into the combustion chamber, I'll measure it's washer with a micrometer, then find one that's a bit thicker to bring it up to flush. If it's recessed I'll find a thinner one to drop it down to flush. The closer to perfectly flush(like a turbo plug) the better.
The washers can be resurfaced and they can be stacked. So if you just save a few you can be Todd turbo-ing your standard plug engines in no time.

I've heard that its a bad idea to use the higher voltage glow lighters compared to the older ni-mh as the more power more glow could cause premature breakage in the glow plug is there any truth in this?

Hey rex I have a novarossi keep off 4 that I had modified by rcr and oil bath break in . I been having problems with it getting this weird thick brown stuff inside of it after running it . I always use a new filter but it looks like dirt or possibly shavings getting in ...can I send it to u to inspect I noticed the sleeve has some buildup inside and I have another engine I want modified and repinched

In a nitro group some1 asked me what plugs I run and I started to explain what works best for me and my setup. Then as I am explaining the who, what, when, where and why the admin chimes in and tells me I have no clue what I am talking about and I don't what I am doing.
I won't drop names....but I was told that glow plug temp range charts are for ambient temp NOT the plug temp. To me it seemed like " either way u read the chart, hot=hot and cold=cold" .
I tried to explain myself by saying "if ambient temp is hot, u should be richening the tune which means u need a HOT/HOTTER plug to burn the extra fuel compared to the plug that was in there when ambient temp was colder and tune was leaner"
Now I am banned from the group for expressing my opinion based off my experience......I did slam the admin on their own page by making a post that said " I guess it's just luck if I am still running the same engine after 5years "
This vid def gave me some more knowledge about plug tuning and that I almost know what I am doing lol
Thank you for all the videos!

Is the threads the same or is their metric and standard. I have a Ofna Force 26-3.5 Big Block Nitro Rc Engine -- With MSD Cooling Head and it seems like the old plug threads are different. I bought new plugs but they will not thread in, and I do not want to strip it out. Thanks Dave

Love the content. If you have a c6tgf and a c6tgc. My car wouldn't run with the c6tgf( I have a ultimate m8. Which is a novarossi r21 plus8) replaced the conrod and replaced the glow plug placed a c6tgf. It wouldn't idle and wouldn't run without the glower/igniter on the glow plug. Replaced the plug with the old c6tgc and run perfect. So between brands there is also difference.
Another question. Are you behind the rex legends engines?

    • @TheRwmods

I was wanting to know the difference between a turbo and a standard plug and I wasn’t very confident in the video because of how long it is but it was the first thing you covered. I’ve got one question about the two types. Is there a difference in fuel economy between standard and turbo? I’ve got a picco in my truggy that has a standard plug and it runs for 8-10 minutes (depending on how hard I push the car). My dad’s friends have engines with turbo plugs that are more race tuned than mine (mine is tuned a little rich) and theirs don’t run as long, or is that just an engine thing

    • @TheRwmods

If I used a p3 plug on a nova p5 and go back to the nova c6 plugs that would be fine ? I have a spare nova p5 after some use no matter how lean I get sometimes it dosnt seem to clear on the top maybe the engine it’s dead but it haves like 6 or 7 gallons on it if you see this maybe you could know
Also if you could make a video on how to change a connecting rod on a nova engine Trying to figure out the best way to remove the clip and put it back with out scratching the piston thanks

    • @TheRwmods
      @TheRwmods  4 роки тому +1

Yes you should be able to go back to the C6 in the P5, just be aware there is a small possibility it might leak.

    • @TheRwmods

The 97T are medium and 77T are hot in O'Donnell plugs. The 97T runs great in Novarossi offroad engines but they are pretty much obsolete.

Honestly not sure. I do know you can remove a shim on most engines because the air is thinner. I would lean towards slightly hotter plug or the stock plug and remove a shim.
