What a wonderful speech! Since her cancellation I have missed reading her articles and hearing her speak on political programmes. If only her clarion call could be heeded but I lack any optimism that this will be the outcome as the Conservative (in name only) Partyself- immolates.
I fear for this country and its fate if the horrifying status quo represented by either a Starmer or Sunak led government is allowed to prevail. If only there were more voices as articulate and persuasive as Melanie’s on the mainstream media but that is a vain hope given the biased, vacuous bilge which is on offer daily in our national press and television outlets.

Well said Melanie..great to see and hear all you are saying. The country I was born into,taught,and brought up in,along with manners and the respect we had for ladies and elderly people..all these things have disappeared.Which is exactly what the Tory’s have done.Bless you Melanie.
Everywhere I go I see signs warning people not to abuse staff in Doctors surgeries, Chemists and other places where staff are serving the public. I never saw these warnings in the past. A sad reflection of our decline of civility in this country.

Wonderful lady. Why cant we have people like her in politics instead of the low calibre of politican we have to chose from at the next election. I despair for this country. Hearing such a sensible speech is reassuring so the sensible amongst know the issues. What CAN we do about it because it seems everywhere we turn we are blocked or cancelled

Isiah 53 was corrupted by the early Chrstians intentionally and you are a victim of their evil. The suffering servant has always been the Jewish people and there are commentaries which pre-date the Chrstian church which prove this. It is the Chrstians who corrupted the verses.
If you say to me, but how can it be the Jewish people, it's not plural, then YOU DON'T KNOW HEBREW! Throughout the book of Isaiah, the Jewish people are referred to as the “Servant of G-d” and in the singular, e.g. Isaiah 41:8, Isaiah 49:3. Then 1.“He [Israel] was wounded because of (מ) our [the nations] transgression.” (Isaiah 53:5). In this verse the Hebrew letter (מ) means “because of” or “from.” It is never translated as “for” which would incorrectly indicate a vicarious atonement.
2. “For the transgression of my people they (למו) were stricken.” (Isaiah 53:8). The word they (למו) is plural (see Psalm 99:7) and clearly indicates that this verse does not refer to a single individual. I could go on but that's enough. They are lying to to. The suffering servant is The Jewish people.

Thank you Ms Phillips you have put into words what every solid, traditional Brit has suspected for the past few decades. Problem is I really do not believe a government, dominated by those from a totally different cultural background, even comprehend ( because of their lack of true British roots) what conservatism actually means. Without this understanding and indeed conviction we, as a nation, are lost.

I know that it will never happen, but I wish we had more people of this calibre in the Commons, Lords and other institutions.
Life and this world is always changing, always evolving, that's a natural univeral thing but yes of course basic values are or should be constant through the ages as well as the need for a decent father figure and mother for good guidance, correct to highlight alot of societal woes are brought about by lack of good parenting.

At Last! Thank you, Melanie Phillips, this really needed to be said. I have to say though, I'm a working class Welsh man, and even I understand, and understood as a young man at the time, that when Thatcher privatized at least she only went after Industries that were in fact failing, that couldn't be saved, and causing all kinds of problems, Thatcher wasn't a complete Free Market Ideologue, she was at least practical and drew a ring around where she would not go. It was "New Labour" that saw nothing at all as sacred. It was Labour that "Dumbed down the press", it was Labour that demolished pub culture and local businesses, it was Labour that helped facilitate the financial collapse that followed immediately after their "Light Touch Regulation", whilst trying to push 'Identity cards' off on the British people having released countless criminals, including rapists and murderers, into the population after a computer mix up. We do need Tradition, we do need a foundation on which to stand, we need strong families, We need a stake in the game again, and we need to be strong to defend ourselves from the so called "Left-Wing". Conservatives Everywhere! Stop pushing Us Away! We are Patriots who support the Crown too! Bakunin said it, Russell said it and Orwell said it also, "The Left" are driven by a hatred, resentment and jealousy of the wealthy and successful. An admiral depiction of conservatism that we have not seen in this country for decades. I fear in this country and at this moment that we have political wets who pander to the crowds who shout the loudest and we have sharlaton conservatives who dress themselves up as conservatives. Unless we can identify and reject these individuals I see no short term fixes that we undoubtedly need. I long for days when we were free agents unobtrusive government and unfettered by ridiculous laws and demands to obey our so called masters.
I fear for my children and my country during this war especially as we now have a sovereign who seemingly embraces the woke and is and has been for a very long time been outspoken politicaly.
