Just to be clear: when playing the game, it'll look nothing like this when actually controlling the units. What you instead see when moving units around is a view from a hundred or so meters above so as not to get surprised by flanking maneuvers. Of course, you can always zoom in to actually see what's going on in detail, but most melees look like messy blobs because it's Attila Total War.

It's amazing how they could logistically amass that many troops arm them, train them, pay them, engage in huge battles take massive amounts of losses and still have their cities protected well

To be fair, large battles like these typically had months or even years between them. Granted, that isn't always the case, but pitched battles are a gamble.
the result of a big battle like the one in the video is very crucial where to be able to fight again they have to prepare for so many years or one side accepts defeat
The truth is pitch battles like these were very rare in the medieval era. They were very, very dangerous and costly in men even if you won. Sieges were much more common. During the entire hundred years war you had like a dozen big pitch battles like this in total.
@Circa 37 Yes it would take so much preparation. If this was a Roman battle they would say they had 3 men v 300,000 and still won ;-)

Well its a bit less surprising when you look at how small of a player england was in europe in the middle ages. France was often regarded as the most powerful and richest kingdom in christiandom. The biggest issue that france had was their internal conflicts between families because of how descentralized they were, especially during the hundred years war. If it weren't to a regency and weak leadership by Henry VI, its entirely possible that England could've beaten and conquered France. After all, the Plantagenets actually had a very viable claim to the French throne.
@@codybell6882 the English also had a superior administrative system which resulted in more efficient use of resources, the English crown earned about as much as the french despite being significantly smaller as a result.

Thanks. For a 2006 game, the technology has aged well, though the engine quite obviously can't do physics well (the flags seem to be made out of cardboard).
This isn't a 2006 game. It does say it's medieval 2. But it's not. Its Atilla Total War. Which was 2015? I think. You buy Atilla and then download medieval Kingdoms 1212 Ad mod. That's what this is. And You can also get Rise of Mordor Or (Dawnless days) it's called now. Massive lord of the rings mod

english longbow can shoot up to 900-1000 feet, 300 yards, that is 3 football fields No country had a chance against that

This battle represents exactly the misconception in anglo saxon films of the hundred years wars where french are total braindead knights just charging longbowmens to their death. That happened at crecy and agincourt but French were winning most of the time ( even more in the end of the war )

Longbows in the time of Napoleon? Why they did not? With that old rifles you were able to shoot 3 times per minute. Wheras a good Archer was able to shoot around 10arrows per minute. Longbows have also huge range advantage.

Such a boring battle. The numbers are even but the English are in defensive position with spikes up front? The outcome was clear from that moment. You could've given the French more soldiers or have the English on the offense under French crossbow fire. But no, it was max favorable for one side.

yeu, anglo-saxon view of situation, but actualy all egnlish battles in 100 hundred war strategicaly was avantures and fails, and some battles was losted definitively... In this battle they losted without doubts. French war machine was more effective because their country was more prosperous... they was more knight, bows was weapons of powerty, and arcuballistas was more efficient - 300-500 kg vs 30-50 kg, and more precisious...
i would point out the french came close to losing. also the english were about as rich as the french due to more efficient governmental system, which resulted ina larger number of knights and sergeants compaired to their total population.

In real life, as we know, arcuballister mercenery was sent without pavese, bolts and sometimes strings too (it`s not a joke), a french knight came by small portions one after another. Why?
