Clawdeen Wolf TTD isn't even a good Coaster though... (I should know, I rode it... TWICE, over way too fast, lines are way too long) Millennium Force was decent, Idk about Gatekeeper it wasn't there when I went.
@@christopherwellman2364 It matters in that the funnel would pose very little danger to anyone on land, unless they happened on the shoreline. But anyone out on the water would be in danger. Plus, these funnels can be spawned without a thunderstorm or even rain. If there was a real tornado at Cedar Point, a thunderstorm would have to be in progress first.
"We're looking into ways to make some changes" is code speak for "we never even had a plan for a tornado", and "we'll reassign or fire those responsible for operating the ride". @Lori Lynn that’s so crazy. Man I wanna know how bad he felt?? I can’t imagine how awful I would feel if I did that. (Obviously he was a kid, a lifetime ago.)
I was working there for that one. I managed the now deceased Breakwater Cafe right on the lake by Sandcastle Suites. We lost a couple of screens on the patio that day.
I was at Soak City that day when I was a kid, they basically shoved everyone back there into the bathrooms and cinder block buildings and told people to get down. Being a kid I didn't think how gross the floor was xD
Anyone else surprised this was just 1998?! It looked, felt and sounded like 1988!!! But the lady newscaster's hair style told me it was definitely late 90s! Nuts!
I was 11 too! We were under the elephant ear stand and people started screaming tornado. I walked out and saw it coming towards us. We went into the bathrooms nearby until it was gone.
My wife and I were at Cedar Point when this happened. I remember getting food around 11 and telling my wife what a tornado ripped through here later today 😃. When it hit we were on the Rip Cord when this hit. They stopped Magnum and I watched people run down the lift hill. We ran into the storage building for Rip Cord and oddly ran into 2 woman we worked with at Home Depot here in Michigan who were trying to hide their "relationship". I watched the spout hit the Mean Streak and fizzle out. Then the park smelled like dead fish everywhere. It was a pretty memorable day.
I was there a few years ago with my girlfriend at the time we are on raptor and one hit! we looked the forecast before going and it's supposed to be clear skies all day!
I used to work at cedar point in 2002 and I can remember asking what was the procedure for a tornado warning and the answer I got was that it was on a “need to know” basis
I was there that day! My girlfriend and I fled the park because we were already headed to the park for a lunch break, craziness. I sped down the causeway doing about 60 mph. We went to the mall and hid in the back room of a department store for a while.
I was working in the games department as a college kid that day in the Midway across from Raptor. Theses game stalls were cinder block with steel/concrete roofs and steel shutters. I don't recall any formal training but pretty much instantly the order was given to secure your cash and get people in the games. With our mike equiped games pluss game staff jumping the counters we got everyone around us to shelter that would follow. I will never forget my friend Rachel yelling on the mike. You idiots there's a tornado coming down the Midway. Get out of line for the Raptors and in the games.
I liked seeing the demon drop,😊it was cool to see on the way in, I kind of miss it 😔I think they should have put it in the kids section, all the new Innovations it would be considered Weak by today's standards
Garbage news at it's finest! I worked on the side of the peninsula where the water spouts (not tornadoes) hit land and dissipated. Every team leader on that coast had already called it in to the main office and emergency stopped their rides and were following procedures to get guests to safety (even though water spouts are NOT tornadoes). The comment that "a random stranger" released them from their seats on the complete other side of the peninsula is laughable. You can't just open a lap bar on any ride unless you know how.
THIS IS A FAIRWEATHER WATERSPOUT NOT A LAND TORNADO!!!!!! Tornados are not rare here in Ohio and yes they do have plans in place!! 1st things 1st is not a supercell tornado this is a Fairweather Waterspout they are extremely common on Lake Erie Lake Erie see up to 200 Waterspouts a Year
When I started watching, I thought the ride had gotten 'stuck', and they were trapped at the top. I would have understood that the attendant could have done nothing if that was the case. HOWEVER, hearing the riders were on the ground, with the attendant RIGHT THERE, and fleeing like the total coward he is instead of freeing the riders makes my blood boil. I think criminal charges needed to be brought here.
This makes no sense lmao, how could the guy who helped them get the harness to magically unlock...if thats the case they couldve done it themselves. Theres defintely some truth stretching in this story
You're a teenager working at an amusement park, and you see a tornado coming. You're working for minimum wage. You've got your whole life ahead of you. Tornado approaches. What do you? You say, "F those old people stuck at the top of the ride," and then you run as fast as you can to save your own damn life! You get the F out of there! "They ain't payin' me enough for this sht" lol 🤣

Well, this is how they came up with the name Wicked Twister 😂😂
😂😂
Lol
Yea I know right
Omg that could actually be true!!
😶😯😦
So weird seeing Cedar Point without Top Thrill Dragster, GateKeeper or Millennium Force
Kate Dawg yea
Imagine what it looked like back in the 80's, son. Back then, Gemini was the king coaster

That wasn't actually a tornado, it was a waterspout. Waterspouts are actually quite common on the Great Lakes, even in fair weather.
Waterspouts are tornadoes.
@@christopherwellman2364 They are usually way less powerful.
@@christopherwellman2364 This was of the non-tornadic variety. They're actually very common on the Great Lakes.

This is not a Supercell Tornado!!!! This is a Fairweather Waterspout
Wow the maintenance guy ran off? I bet he got fired the next day!
They hire a lot of summer help meaning college students. I'm not knocking that but it that would give them a huge pool of inexperienced workers.
They should have fired him.
@Lori Lynn that’s so crazy. Man I wanna know how bad he felt?? I can’t imagine how awful I would feel if I did that. (Obviously he was a kid, a lifetime ago.)
Is that why the made a roller coaster called wicked twister
Itz Yasin!! I'm dead

Yeah I had to double check the year 😂
I was camping across the bay when this hit. saw several water spouts that today. crazy
I was there that day. I was 11 years old. We were eating soft pretzels under that A-frame pavilion when it hit. We took shelter in a restroom nearby.
I was 11 too! We were under the elephant ear stand and people started screaming tornado. I walked out and saw it coming towards us. We went into the bathrooms nearby until it was gone.
I was there too, around the same age. I remember people running for their lives, I took shelter in the arcade.

theme parks should always have a tornado plan in place during the summer.

A water spout
That's what I thought.
260th like! But oh my god, that is awful! I hope they made it out safely.
This happened on the day I was born!!!
My father remembers the day it happened, he says it went up and down near Cedar Point Beach. At least that is what I think he said.
considering?
Ben H It is watersprout, not tornado
