One thing I would add to any list of features to help with longevity of a gasoline engine is to avoid "direct injection" fuel systems. Direct injection directs the fuel/air mixture directly into the combustion chamber. This feature comes from racing and improves performance, however, it also causes major carbon build up on the valves. This doesn't occur with port injection engines because the fuel air mixture passed over the valves and the fuel acts as a solvent keeping the valve surfaces clean. There are some engines that now have a combination of both in the same engine, (I think Toyota does this) which is also a good solution. But if you have a engine that has direct injection, you absolutely will have carbon build up issues that are difficult to fix.
Shari - excellent video. Thanks for going over the different engine and transmission types. More of these in the future! Also, when you talk about advantageous features, please also provide the names of the vehicles brands that carry them (alternately, those that don't). And thanks for the time stamps! Edit: I just caught the end of the video where you say youre going to go over the brands - great! Look fwd to it.
According to the Car Care Nut, any tiny bump on the rear bumper especially on the side of the bumper may cause Blind Spot Monitoring/Rear Cross Traffic Alert sensor to mis-align and required re-calibration by a dealer.
@@carhelpcornerThat's true. I got a Mitsubishi outlander 2023 without a spare tire. Got a difficult to repair flat tire. I was impressed how good the tire repair can worked. I was able to continue my commute home and replace the tire 1 week ago. Without a spare tire you are removing car weight and saving gas
@@josejavierpa tire repair kit does absolutely nothing for a blown out tire. Tire repair kits also do very little to nothing, for major sidewall damage. Tire repair kits are not a sufficient substitute for a spare tire.

An LCD panel neatly integrated into the dashboard is hard to find. Most of them look like a last-minute, stuck-on afterthought. 😞 Keep up the great work, Shari.
Nice video as usual.. You mentioned great features to be looked at when buying a new vehicle. You missed one great feature which find it very useful. This is adaptive cruise control. My daughter’s CX5 has adaptive cruise control and it is really good. You set the distance between your car and vehicle ahead and set the speed, rest it takes care of..
Good advice, especially your comments on all wheel drive vs just getting a set of winter tires and wheels. My 2008 Toyota 4Runner with RWD is able to deal with the harshest of Iowa winters without any problems at all.
Thank you for this excellent video! Very good advice! It would be great if you could create a video, which would rank (based on the features you described in this video and maybe other features/parameters that you consider important) 2024-2025 7-8 seaters SUVs WITH naturally aspirated engines.
If you're putting out a video about features drivers don't need, pls include huge glass sun/moon roof and frameless door windows. They are a real pain if they malfunction. A leaking roof/frameless side window is a big headache. And possibly pricey repairs too.
Unfortunately, the Camry's touchscreen didn't have Apple Carplay or Android Auto capability back in 2018. To my knowledge, there is no retroactive update available for this.
If these features actually prevent accidents, why are my insurance premiums on a 2024 car FOUR TIMES the premiums on a 2003 car without any of the gimmicks?
This is hard to believe unless you had a couple of at fault accidents. Or maybe your new car is on a high theft list? My insurance obviously went up in 10 years but just about 50%. But I changed my insurance company after 2-3 years. Otherwise they get greedy and gouge you.
@@jdmather5755 Sure, but shouldn't all the safety features in the new vehicle mean it won't get into as many total-loss accidents? I think what's happening is from an insurance point of view, the cost of repairing all the safety equipment is far outweighing the savings from fewer accidents. Ironically that means drivers get financially punished for driving safer cars
It would have been great if you had given examples of cars as you list features. Like "it's best to have blah blah blah in your car and some example cars having blah blah are X,Y,Z etc."
Stability control, back up camera and Anti-lock brakes are the only safety items needed IMO. Anything else is just a security blanket for cel phone users. The touch screen controls are IMO a huge distraction and safety concern. The added cost of these items raise the price of cars at MSRP and over the long term with added maintenance expense. Technology is no guarantee of progress.

I reached out to Katzkin and had them make me “Lava Red” Leather seat covers trimmed in black and black stitching. After Katzkin removed the factory black leather seat covers and installed the new seat covers, I sold the black leather seat covers . The Lava Red seat covers look Awesome with the custom 2 tone Barcelona Red metallic paint on my Tacoma. The White over Red looks Great, as does the Bronze wheels. Our last pickup was Silver 🤮, so I had it 2 toned in Red metallic as well. The upholstery in our last pickup was grey and black, so I bought neoprene Red and black seat covers for it. That pickup was a 1 of a kind as well. I enjoy making my pickups a 1 of a kind and I LOVE RED.

I definitely have to disagree with you on one of your “must haves”, and that’s ANY vehicle with a CVT !!! Absolutely AVOID any vehicle with a CVT !!! The MOST unreliable transmission you can have in a vehicle !!
I specifically said "hybrid E-CVT" because these are one of the most reliable transmission types available now. They have a very simple planetary gear set design and failures are almost unheard of.
Notice in the blind spot monitoring animation that you can see the side of the subject vehicle from the side view mirror. Most drivers place their mirrors this way which is 100% wrong. Many great UA-cam videos show how to properly place your rear and side view mirrors to eliminate blind spots. If you can see the side of your car from your side view mirrors, they are pointed too far inwards. Technologies like this and other potentially dangerous features (because people rely on them too much), like adaptive cruise control are for people who shouldn't be on the road in the first place.
Yes please. I'd love a dedicated video citing which cars have the best touchscreen functions. Thank you
