- Today we're going to be trying out a neat like pen and paper game called Delve wherein we take command of a dwarven citadel and illustrate it's progress through the stone.

If you enjoyed this, here's a playlist of Delve videos done by Dwarfcomic: • Silverdreams 1 - DELVE

Thanks to all my Patreons who make this stuff possible: / kruggsmash
and a special thanks to you, my bearded bastid'.
Thanks for the shout out! 100% agree using generators adds a great layer to this game. Gonna be steal'n that! 🙂
This guys got a lot of delve videos. they're great. go watch em'!
DC have any new DF vids planned?
I just watched all of his delve vids yesterday, very highly recommended!
❤'d the DC Delves!
@@kruggsmash Thanks for the "insider tip" (grin, lol) on where to find more Delve!
Also, a humble plea that you will perhaps do a bit of CDDA again. I thought that episode (the Halloween one) was truly exceptional in multiple regards!
Confusion over building stairs. Dwarven classic.
I would love to see more of this. More Delve specifically, as well as more of this type of side content.
Looking like how it might be! never totally abandon df though of course
agree. nice pause from df, although i love df
Comic on to it I've done some decent delve might be I . Krugg s friends
ooo what about a historical rule set, 100 years after the worm
"I want my office to be built with quick access to the bottomless pit" ~A just and definitely not threatening leader
... "This is madness!" - That one anti-socialist campaigner who was never seen again. - >)':^I
When the volcano awakens, this problem solves itself
@@toryumau6798 "You're socialist and yet you worship money--" KICK
Little did she know that there was a giant monster beneath it; Dwarven hubris at its finest.
@@JediLordNathan TIS IS SILVERSTONE!!!
Also on unrelated note, this opposition dwarf officially went to explore deeper level. No one was holding him.
As much as I like Dwarf Fortress, in relation to you, I see it more as a tool for your stories. It's the framework and ruleset you have to build around.
For me, you could really use any medium/game that offers similar structures and freedom, like this one, and still make it great.
So, yeah. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Delve or anything else you could wrap your imagination around!
100% agreed. I'm here from the imagination and story telling, however it comes about.
It's great to see him mixing it up, not gonna lie.
Too bad about poor Silverstone tho.
The artwork especially really created a sense of continuity. The story of Silverstone is definitely going to be filed alongside all of those of Dwarf Fortress in my head.
Agreed, I also really enjoyed his Cataclysm stories
Honestly I'd love to see this guy as a DM for dnd
Similar Dungeon-Drawing games worth trying:
- How to Host a Dungeon, by Tony Dowler, in which you generate the Dungeon of a particular civilisation and play it out over the eons of its life cycle.
- No Country for Old Kobolds, by Steve Wallace, in which you generate the map of a continent divided in several countries with a Kobold village trying to survive in the middle.
- Ironsworn Delve, by Shawn Tomkin, an extension of the Viking-themed procedural roleplaying game, that will let you explore the deepest, darkest reaches of the Ironlands.
Iiiiiinteresting. you know, I haven't really looked into similar game even at this point. i'll have to take a look at these. thanks, dude
I also recommend Mappa Imperium; look it up and it's pay what you want as far as I'm aware
@@clockworkpotato9892 Is that the one made by another UA-camr called Nookium? I know he promotes it a lot.
@@Xeridanus yeah it is
How to Host a Dungeon (the first version) is a very fun tool: I've used it a lot to create realistic dungeons for tabletop RPG campaigns in the past. I don't host very long campaign anymore and mainly play one-shots, but the fact that the protagonist is the dungeon itself is a very unique concept.
Solo role playing games are underrated, if you’re looking for another great solo game that’s more a journaling game than a map-maker, I’d recommend Thousand Year Old Vampire.
Very underrated! Seemed like a strange concept till 1 realized it's what I do for a living.
Thanks for the recommendation. will have to look into it
TYOV is my first game like this, very good imho
I second tyov. mine is a scot living in London after fleeing the jacobite rebellions. 1760s he gets turned and now has ended up in Central America wending his way through the local culture and owns a whole catacomb system where he poses the skeletons of his victims imitating key moments of his life lest he forget who he was in the endless march of time
@@kruggsmash or try lost in the deep, I a Journaling game where you play as a last dwarf survivor of a failed expedition.
Picked up TYOV not too long ago as well, as writing training
I believe you missed this point in the "Starting the game" rules, point 3: "Create a section in your notepad to track your units, **and note that you have
five Soldiers (page 6) at the Entrance.**" - so you actually supposed to start with a sizeable force.
OH HELL! Haha what a dummy. Don't know how I didn't accidentally reread that part at some point this past month. thats bonkers/ thanks for the heads up there
@@kruggsmash Happens! You are right, some rules in those games are murky (for example, troops need a room to be stationed in, so does that mean the Entrance can station those units, or do they have to move to the first Barracks available?).
I do hope you give it another go! Or, perhaps, another flavour of game from the same author? Umbra is a later game by the same person with a sci-fi twist, and it's considered to be more rules-mature and varied.
(Space Dorfs? One can dream..)
@@kruggsmash To be fair, with the way you've generated your nation it absolutely makes sense why they'd have embarked with no soldiers. After all, their lands are peaceful and tranquil, with the exception of all the pollution, so they wouldn't have expected the sheer poor luck of having an elder monstrosity living so close to the surface.
@@kruggsmash Redo of this episode or just make a new delve?
@@kruggsmash I mean I do have to say this did at lest did lead to a rather amusing first play through. Let's just say that do to a bureaucratic oversight the funds that was supposed to be used to station a 5 dwarf military garrison at the fortresses base "accidentally" got "redistributed" to the dear leaders personal funds. While you brave dwarves may have died, the great party still lives on despite your set back. All your belongings and holding will be now be claimed and redistributed to the people. And by "to the people" we mean the heads of the party.
i think a consideration is that these are dwarves, so the air pollution they might be concerned about *might be entirely ungerground*. Really it would make sense for a society that lives almost exclusively underground that air quality control would be among the central functions of government much like water purity is for us.
I had an idea that was somewhat like this.
The dwarves burn the plentiful fossil fuels of their nation for heat and power. However, since they aren’t all that advanced, they don’t know how to route the exhaust all the way to the surface without it all leaking back in. Their forts are obviously low-lying, so CO2 and the like collect inside. Thus, they use a system of empty lava tubes below their forges to vent the smog. After generations of doing this, the lava tubes are nearly full. They don’t have pickaxes strong enough to break open the tubes themselves, relying on natural holes. Their plan is to utilize the energies of the Void Crystal to blow a hole in the tubes before they fill and suffocate the forts: The smog will vent out of the tubes and blow east, out of the kingdom. From there, it’s not the dwarves’ problem.
Hey Krugg, I was looking into this game and realized that you might have missed a step that could have saved your fortress from an amphibious fate. At the start of the book it says to create five soldiers in your entryway when you begin (step 3 of starting the game on page 2) and while most of them would have still been turned into a dwarven smear on the stairs it might have been enough to keep you in the game. Hope this helps, if not then sorry and have a good one!
ive never heard of a map drawing game this is really cool
Isn't it neat? Been eager to get into it.
If kruggsmash does another game of Delve I hope he keeps the "world" connected to this one. Could be the start of a cool shared universe.
Loved it. Dwarf fortress is always fun but it's good to have variety.
True that. Glad you liked it. thanks for watching!
Playthroughs of this game has my vote. I loved how quick it was!
Yes, another run of Delve would be amazing.
may the next fortress live long and prosper! Lest another foul beast spells its doom.
Delve is a really amazing experience to watch! I would love more Delve videos and seeing you get a hold of the rules and get a fortress fit for legend!
Maybe get a little speedier with it, eh? lol, this was only 8 rounds here, pfft
Delve looks very fun! As a fellow artist, I can't wait to try it and see how my fortress end up looking!
Heck yeah, do it up! Lemme see what you come out with
This was super cool. Loved the music and art. Great characters snd I loved the talking gloves (gloved hands that move with narration)! I'd love to see more of this game played on your channel, for certain. This was excellent!
This is indisputable proof that anything Krugg touches turns to gold.
Love seeing you branch out and have fun with something new!
Oh wow nice visuals! And awesome use of the random generator websites!
Hey thanks. Really wanted to do better with the pics here.
I really like Delve. I got it last year and only played a few times.
It's pretty neat!
i have very fond memories of playing "how to host a dungeon" with my father as a kid. this is a wonderful throwback and i'd love to see more!
Definitely want to see you try it another time at least, it feels like it ended too short
I love that drawing of the cat, haha! Pretty comfy video, I enjoyed it!
good to see you back, been missing your soothing voice in the background of the day.
i liked your foray into delve.
i miss the forts, but i wouldnt mind seeing more of delve either.
it would be interesting to see the further story of borhok when the dwarves try again
Patron here! Loved this; had no idea such a thing existed, may have gone overboard and purchased all of the content available from the creator that caught my eye 🤣
Would love more of this content! The little innovations you discuss are just one more thing I can swipe for my own games.
Praise Armok! Praise Krugg!
I think I can safely say that one of the big draws of your channel, at least for me, is your warm, brilliant storytelling and watching you build your worlds and the lives and civilizations within it. So yes, more delve from you would be more than welcome! Strike the Earth, and rock and stone.
Burrowing beast:
Can be tamed, does not burrow
I laughed way too hard at this 😂
I backed the Delve kickstarter, got 3 different Zines of a similar nature, the goblin idea is awesome for Rise, where you start at an evil dungeon heart and dig to the surface!
That sounds cool
Oh my goodness I really thought you were gone, you hadn't posted in so long!
That woulda been funny
@@kruggsmash yeah considering! But glad to see you again. And as a solo boardgamer this intrigues me.
@@kruggsmash It would have broken our hearts. I think you had a lot of us worried that you were tired of making content
If you want to do more of these I will be totally for it, this is awesome!
My son and I just purchased and downloaded this! Can’t wait to play it.
We are going on a 3 week camping holiday with no computers so I’m sure this will get a good run!!
Please do more videos of this krug
This was honestly one of my favourite episodes in a long time! I'd love to see more of this game, it really fits your style of storytelling.
I would love to see a golin fort, where they are firced to dig into the earth to escape a crusade to purge the goblins from the land. They dig to build a new life, dig to flee, but most of all, they dig to seek revenge. Tales speak of many legendary items burried in secret vaults beneath the lands. Who knows, maybe they will be lucky, maybe they will find exactly what they are looking for... or perhaps their desperate attempts to flee into the earth is simply them prolonging their ultimate fate.
Love this, want to see more. Your the best Krug. XD
It's hard to describe just how nice it is to have these videos on UA-cam
You should absolutly keep this up! I've seen a bunch of youtubers playing solo rpgs and I've never seen anyone elevate it so much with art and descriptions.
So happy to see fantasy name generators get a shout out! That website is a treasure trove.
A fantastic story and video as always. You bring any game to life.
It's like I'm watching a masterfully crafted thousands of years old fairy tale!
I really liked this episode! I think that whatever game you choose to use as an aid, we're all here for your storytelling style anyway. I'd love to see more!
As much as I like the wonderful and wacky world of Dwarf Fortress, the real reason I'm here is for Krugg's superb story telling, narration, and accompanying art.
It's nice to see how those three things I enjoy about the channel can be adapted to other mediums of narration (The DF overhaul mods were a great little foray into slightly more unfamiliar territory).
I am certainly not at all opposed to seeing more on-brand content like this!
I absolutely love this. The combination of your storytelling with the game mechanics are really a perfect match. And the emphasis of your awesome art really elevates the whole experience.
This is a perfect addition to the channel. Adds a little variety and break from DF while still being in the spirit of te channel!
I would love to see more Delve. Great idea for the random generators!
For Borhok's Groutons with Cherry Sauce, at first I was thinking a meatloaf, but I don't know how you'd braise a meatloaf...
... I reckon it's similar to how some variants of meatballs are dry baked first till it forms a crust, then simmered in sauce till tender. Black cherry reduction would certainly be a nice glaze for such a dish. >):^]
seeing youtube coverage of solo pen and paper games is pretty rare, nice to see you doing this!
One of my favorites is dude, Bigfoot stole my car with my friends present in the trunk.... or something like that. They have a recent sequel, oh no mothman won't move out he said it would only be for the weekend. Both tons of giggles.
Woah, this has opened up an entirely new world for me! I never really thought about games like this but have been delving deep in to recommendations on games like this.
Looking in to it, I think it'd be amazing to see a video on Apothecaria (by the same person who made Delve) with a Waddlesquash setting. 🎃
I can’t get enough of what you do, be it Dwarf Fortress or any other medium. You’re a gem and I hope you keep on creating amazing content. Cheers Dawi!
Glad to see that the Overseer has a direct access to *The Void* in the back of his office.
Really loved this episode! I'd definitely like to see this series continue
If it weren't for this video, I wouldn't have found your channel. I want this game now, great job on the artistry and story telling! I would love to see more like this.
This was cool. And you are such a fun narrator for it. If you don't mind doing more Delve, I wouldn't mind watching it.
"Our greatest advantage is our clean water, our biggest challenge is our dirty air." Certainly a great opportunity to get creative.
This was a very welcome change of pace! The combination of your style and this game is a match made in heaven, can't think of a better channel to showcase this cool little game.
DELVE is a really great game and I'm glad to see you enjoyed it too. In fact, your earlier videos inspired the searches that eventually lead to my playing it in the first place!
This was a really neat video and I really do want more of this type of content. Delve seems really neat, especially with your drawings and narrative details added.
Hope to see a well-functioning hold with several murdered monsters to its reputation, tamed or murdered.
Thanks for a great bit of entertainment, Krugg.
Superb storytelling and amazing how much work and creativity you put into this.
If there is one thing Krug is good at, it's making stories out of random generators. Solo TTRPGs just seem like a natural part of this channel.
I enjoyed this episode very much. The extra story telling gave the game an extra flair. Well done, and thank you
A valiant ttempt! I hope you continue to DELVE on the channel. Thanks Krugg, for introducing us to this game, I'll be picking this up when I'vegotthe chance.
IM CRYING THIS STORY WAS SO ENGAGING AND DYNAMIC!
The art is super. I really want more of this.
This is really cool and I'm sure a nice little break from dwarf fortress for you, but with similar content.
-Borhok, this is delicious. What kind of meat it is?
-I don't know but when I smashed it with a frying pan, it screamed like a damned bastard.
A game I can recommend is "Mappa Imperium" by Nookrium, where you can create a fantasy world solo or with your friends. And it's free!
These dwarf designs are so inspired! I love your artstyle in this video
This seems like an excellent and natural expansion of content for the Channel. Would be very pleased to see more in future.
I have not played a solo map drawing game before, always been collaborative. Thank you for brining this to my attention! and as always I love that art and stories :)
I would love to see more Delve. Recently I have been really getting into board games, and this looks exactly like the sort of thing I would play. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
You really poured a lot of art into enhancing this episode! Bravo, man!
I like this game, it's just structured fun with the goal of juicing your creativity glands. That's always really enjoyable, and I love taking uncontrolled, random input and bending it around in your head to make sense or even inspire yourself. I love making D&D characters using tables for traits, alignments, species, gender, as many things as I can, and rolling dice for all of it. You never know what amazing ideas you have hidden inside yourself until you start taking some curveballs like that.
Good content Krugg, it was very enjoyable!
Please more of this! I've never heard of Delve before, but now it's on my list of games to get and try. I really liked your presentation and set up of the game. Really inspires me to get back into drawing just to play this game!
It's normally hard for creators to get their audience to accept branching out into new things, but I think you'll succeed here. You're an excellent storyteller, and this game complements your channel's identity perfectly. Some people will instinctively miss your Dwarf Fortress content, but at the end of the day it's just one tool for you to craft your stories. I think branching out from Dwarf Fortress into these types of role-playing games will still deliver the kind of experience your audience expects and lets you try new things. Go for it!
Such a beautiful video! I loved pictures of the dwarf with a ladder next to a giant turkey. 😊
This was fun, nice change of pace from Dwarf Fortress
Excellent!!
That was wonderful! That half hour went by incredibly fast; can't wait for the next one!
Definitely loved this one. I'd certainly like to see more - either another Delve where you get farther (or win) this time, or another game like this if you want to try different things. Your art and imagination brings these types of games to life, so a game like Delve seems perfect for your brand.
Yes plase, more of this and similar. :D I love it! It is your style we love, not only Dwarf fortress.
We all love you Krugg
We’re all routing for you
Thank you for you hard work
I would love to see more of this! Always been a big fan of your story telling, and this is a great tool for it, just like Dwarf Fortress.
This had a lot of stuff I love in it. Lava tunnels, random tables, doom. Thanks :) I like it
I absolutely love your content. Everything you've done demonstrates your passion and creativity for the subjects. i honestly came and stayed here for the DF content, but if this is the level of care you put into spin-off content, i wholeheartedly support you branching out so you can enjoy yourself and bring us even more neat videos and concepts!
Krugg this video was unexpected and wonderful! Such a fun use of your hand-drawn story telling, and such a tragically untimely end! I for one hope we get to see another go at something like this without encountering an insurmountable ravening beasty so soon!
I passed this video one time and thought I was dreaming so I forgot about it. And now here I am!
Please do more of this. This was so much fun! Loved every minute.
I'd really love to see more of you playing and drawing Delve! This game just seems perfect for you, Krugg!
This is very a good story, I love your work, and Delve is just as good a story teller as Dwarf Fortress.
I'd love to see more of this. Delve seems like a miniature DF game in card form, at least when narrated like this.
A good solo role playing game is eating gabagool straight outta the package with the fridge door open and pretending you’re tony soprano
I usually do it at 2 am
Thoroughly enjoyed this, and I would definitely watch if you did more!
This was so good! Saved it for a day when I could relax and watch, was not disappointed. I think most of us are here for the fantastic art and the great stories being told in a fantastic voice, so whatever medium you use the bearded bastards are in for the long haul!
Really enjoyed this and it's fun to see you branching out with other games that play to your video style.
DEFINITELY do more Delve. I think this could be the spark of a new little series. A roguelite series of sort, tossing random ideas in with good dwarven doodles and bearded shenanigans. Every week could be a new theme or something perhaps? Anyway, wonderful video. Im gonna play some Delve!
This is maximum comfy. Extremely enjoyable. If you wanted to do more of this I'll definitely be in attendance! Fantastic content as always man!
I really dug this episode; I like your art and I like the way you tell stories. Happy to keep watching whatever content you decide to make!
Yo Krugg, I haven't had my mind in DF in a long time, but I'm very glad that you've very consistently been making videos in the meantime, which turned into a huge backlog for me that I'll probably eat through rapidly once DF's Steam version is released.
I love Kruggs creativity, its amazing to witness
This was a fantastic video, Krugg! I would love to see more of Delve and/or any other games of the genre you want to make videos for.
You're describing won tons with red sauce. 1000% delicious.
This was an absolute blast. Solo rpgs are so much fun! You should keep it up
Glad to see you Kruggsmash! I was worried that Grin the goblin had bested you for good. I'm glad that your wounds weren't as lethal we all originally thought. This is an welcome alternative to Dwarf Fortress, and I for one, would love to see more videos like this. The nation of Etrien is still in peril. Their air pollution is still not resolved. Borhok must avenge the death of his former leader and slay the armored amphibian!
This was so charming! I'd very much love to see more of this.
Looking forward more content with Delve, loved the vid.
Hey we might have to see, huh? Wasn't totally planning on it, but maybe, maybe.
