- Hawk and i have been close many times since may 2nd when he punched his first new york spring turkey tag...
with close call after close call we knew eventually it was going to happen... this morning on the last hunt he was going to be able to have this spring he punched his 2nd tag on this jake that had us fooled as we thought we were working the two toms that we have had just out of range several times..
these two jakess came in gobbling & drumming once they were just over the knoll, when they first popped up over the knoll behind me but they were right together so hawk couldn't shoot... after some quiet yelps and scratching i pulled them back up over and they split up yielding hawk a chance which he hammered down on!
what a spring it has been!

Good job! I’ve called in a ridiculous amount of birds over the years for people and I never understood how a guy that’s hunting for you on his time can strike up a bird call him up and when he comes in struttin you won’t kill him cause he’s a jake or if a head pops up close and they shoot that they’re disappointed it was a jake! Ya still left a tom out there people get over it! It’s about the hunt! Great job hawk!
I don’t mind letting a Jake go but these two literally had us fooled, gobbling and drumming like toms especially where the two we’ve been chasing like to be

I have no issue either! I’m happy for hawk and the fact he embraced it i think that’s great! In the end it is a legal Turkey and to many people get caught up thinking it has to be a tom is all I was sayin! I’ve whacked a few jakes over the years cause it was gettin down to crunch time in season (keep in mind in Wisconsin we have six “individual” one week long seasons) or cause I got fooled I never gave two shits I still ate em! Still enjoyed every second of the hunt just wish more people could see that instead of the industry marketing Tom’s only. Good work bco! #🇺🇸
