- So is Alton Towers worth visiting this summer? On a Saturday in July, Scott and Stephen headed back to the famous theme park to see "if Alton Towers is worth it?", and what we found was a relatively quiet theme park with low waiting times, but far from perfect ride availability. During our day we also had a look and chat about what could be happening for Alton Towers Scarefest, as well as having a nosy at the new ride construction.

The more Alton Towers invests in building up their flat rides then that will help the pressure on the big 6 coasters which are getting hammered by the crowds.
Honestly, I’d rather see more water rides and dark rides than flat rides
I don’t know why rita gets so much hate, it was my first ride last week and it was an absolute blast. Snappy launch, quite smooth transitions. Yes you can see the age… but I certainly did not feel it. Great vlog as always!
I thought it was really rough last weekend. Jolted about all over the place.
@@bunkerboy02 oh no 😂 i must have had a better train then. i am very sensitive and usually get an instant headache and i was totally fine!
They do say it depends where you sit on a train and where the wheels are. It’s showing its age though I think. Still crazy fast at the start though.
It’s never been one of my favourites, but it’s alright
Bad restraints, too slow, too short. With the shorter accelerators they at least have a really powerful launch and a big highlight moment, Rita has neither. And compared to the other long accelerators like storm runner and that one in tsenfreid (sp?) the layout is rubbish, it's literally just 2 S hills

@@noahavery3301 was there last week and a group of Year 8s were in the queue for the Wicker Man at 2pm and it was to be their first ride and they had to be back on their coach for 4pm!!! They’d suffered rides closing whilst in their queues on three occasions.
@@bunkerboy02 that’s unbelievable from towers.. don’t know why there are so many breakdowns
I totally agree with everything you say.
I was there last Sunday and Monday. Sunday queues were around 30-40 minutes. Monday queues were horrendous with us waiting 2 hours for Wicker Man, 90 minutes for Oblivion and Nemesis. The downtime across the park was dreadful throughout the day too.
The UK parks all seem to have had downtime issues this year

One thing which I have a bug bear with these uk parks. Why close at 5pm. I was spoiled as pleasure beach was always open until 10pm. Atleast open until 9pm during the 6 weeks. I was at coney island last week. It was still packed at 11pm. I get staff don't enjoy working lates. But it's deffinatly needed.
As a paying customer we should have the entitlement to be able to until 8/9 pm especially on a weekend when waiting many hours and possibly not get on all rides as well as the prices they charge.
5pm is too soon, should really be 7pm but if the demand isn’t there they won’t stay open.
Great vlog as always chaps. Quick question: When we did the Rita ERT years ago was it Stephen who was running the ride? I'm sure you said a mate was operating it?

Hi there guys, thank you very much for a great video as usual. I personally would visit Alton Towrrs on off peak days when it much quieter. Wouldn't wait for an hour for a ride in all honestly especially the fact they are charging the prices for entry. Would want my rides worth.!!

Hey Gavin, we figured it’d been too long since our last Towers vlog so wanted to do a new one, plus it’s a cheap day out with our passes 😅
I remember, vaguely, Alton Towers used to do the house/garden tours for free, during the day. Probably going way back to the 90’s, but I’m sure you waited at a meeting point at a given time and a member of staff would arrive and give you a tour. If no one was there, they’d come back later.

Spot on with The Wickerman pre show and 13 theme. I’m forever saying the themes are a tad too dark for a big selection of their target audience, and a rolling Wickerman pre show would be a better option now for throughput and to allay nervous riders fears. You can skip the pre show like you say, but it’s such a faff to fight your way to the front and get the attention of the staff, in what is already a busy, loud environment (which has negatives for some riders too!)
Agree with the sentiment but if you can't deal with a preshow you probably shouldn't be on the ride.
@@CiciColino how so? Dark, loud, cramped sweaty spaces don’t equate to the ride experience in any way.

Ahh sad to hear breakdowns broke the ideal route. We had success on Saturday. Started on Th13teen with two laps, Rita came up then broke straight away so that was a no go, over to X Sector, short wait for oblivion, decent wait for smiler in single rider, nemesis x2, galactica, Curse, Wickerman, Smiler again and Nemesis x 2 to finish the day off
Also completely agree about a Wickerman rolling pre show, think it every time we go
RE Rainy Day Guarantee: they do a Guarantee but it's not based on the weather, it's based on ride availability

In my opinion the queues are nothing these days at Alton Towers compared to Thorpe Park. Think the staff do a really good job getting you through at Towers.
Thorpe is easy to get around if things are done in a sensible order
I'd love to be as into Halloween season as others as I like the idea of it with longer hours and the atmosphere etc....but I'm more like Stephen and pretty sure I'd hate the mazes, haha. Some 'getting into scare attractions' content would be great!
Don’t give them ideas, Poor Stephen won’t be able to hack it.

I think wickerman is great and if you get it end of the day at the back its much crazier than early in the day.
Nemesis theme and the curse are good when the actors wanna get involved with you.
My only gripe is them reducing all these 6pm finishes to 5 again... and the constant huge queues on wickerman and 13 for the majority of the day.
I think itd be good to get something between 13 and minetrain with a bit of a drop and some laterals... like you say with the theme of the pre shows and 13s trick its heavy on the little ones mentally, and frankly, back end of wickerman at the end of the day is INTENSE for a kid whos only done mine train 🤣

Noticed a lack of actors in Forbidden Valley on my last two visits, shame that.
Wicker Man is excellent in the dark.
@@yourexperienceguide when we were there a few weeks ago they had everyone out in force.. bus driver was funny and engaging, my kids loved the guys in the red suits making people go certain ways, do push ups, put people off etc.
They seem to be struggling for staff on all accounts
Wicker Man is mid, it's one of the best rides in the country, but it's still mid. Which really is just a comment about the UK's lack of elite rides.
It's by far better in the back row but it's still mostly about the laterals and visuals, the airtime is barely existent which is sad for a GCI
We have a severe lack of elite coasters in the UK, let’s hope Universal change that
@@yourexperienceguide I'm mildly concerned universal will build an Efteling, focusing on indoor dark rides and theming above outdoor thrill rides. Of course it would be great to have both but I'm not holding my hopes up for serious coasters just yet
If they do that then they have absolutely, wildly, vividly made an absolutely enormous mistake. I expect a mental invert, a wing coaster, a mad mack ride and a ridiculous intamin which will be world leading @@chrisogrady28
btw, as a bigger girl (size 18 uk women) i was JUST fitting in some of the rides. and i do not have a big bust. was a little shocked about that.

I’m a scaredy cat with rides and this helped me know what to expect 😖

@@yourexperienceguide i went and the queues werent bad at all the most we queued was 40 for wickerman and 15-20 for everything else
As someone who was at the Oakwood event (was great btw) I have to disagree with the Megaphobia claims, I didn't think it was all that 😅Just too rough for me, Wicker Man for me is the best woodie in the UK - but I understand while some wouldn't agree
