The symbol is called a Nonogram, similar to a Pentagram but instead of 5 points it has 9. It basically refers to the 9 members of the band, but also to signify that the band is intertwined and if they were to sever that it would lose the whole meaning of what the "Knot" is about.
Ive been a massive fan of Slipknot since i was 5, I'm now 21. There isn't any reason to be scared. We are very respectful. We just prefer heavy music

From a musical perspective, what makes this amazing is the aggressive rhythm changes and vocal ranges. It’s not a demon voice. Its his vocal range capabilities. The guitar has incredible powerful riffs and great soloing. It get my blood pumping.
He goes from that “demonic” voice to that “regular” voice because he only has one of the largest vocal ranges in history. They aren’t for everyone but cannot deny they are unbelievable musicians. RIP Joey and Paul. Give a few more songs a chance with a open mind.
yes so true. His neck is as thick as a bull. He has a very unique voice. But can you imagine his reaction to 'The Devil in i', 'The negative one' and 'Solway Firth' 😂. But i think if he looks up the lyrics he will find out that it's actually the opposite of 'demonic'. I mean mainstream music like Beyonce and Demi lovato are WAY WAY more "satanic" in many more ways than a couple of scary masks, right? 😉

Metal is the only music I fall asleep to, it’s very calming and other genres like pop, jazz just make you too focused to the music
In the first place, he sings with that deep and raspy voice because it's a metal band XD, and the second reason is that he has an incredible voice and with a lot of range and he can sing deep and high-pitched at the same time, the truth is his voice is incredible if he wanted to I could sing to pop or whatever genre I want
"Demonic voice" - he's just shouting. These vocals are extremely tame, relatively speaking. Also, you should try their song "Spit It Out" since that one might throw you for a bit of a loop.
Went to my first Slipknot show (56 year old female). Had the best time ever, felt super safe and was exhausted from all the head banging 😊🤘🏼

Also the presentation itself, was an anti-image in response to the boy bands and so forth that were prevalent during the time that they broke into the industry. Now the meaning may have somewhat evolved over time due to circumstance, but the image and the masks still unify the band as an entity that is greater than the sum of its parts.

If you wanted to know more about the lyrics I would definitely watch Knox Hill's video in your free time, he honestly did an impressive job at catching the lyrics and the theme--great ears that guy has. Changed my view on the song for sure.

Slipknot is... well, I guess you can say already a relatively old band. They started playing back in 1995. Corey Taylor (the vocalist) joined the band in 1997. Still, imagine singing with that growl for 26 years now!!! And he is still going, and doing well... I mean, he is almost 50 now, and had a few surgeries on his neck, still. Btw, his nickname "neck", is given to him for a reason. Just look at the size of his neck, thus his vocal cords. Massive! No wonder his range is so wide. Btw, Corey also plays in another band, called Stone Sour, it is complete opposite of Slipknot. Very, very mellow rock. I mean, talking about how wide his vocal range is... As for the masks, ppl commenting lower are 100% correct, I'll just add a few facts. Straight out they started wearing masks, and playing live with masks on, and for quite some time, they actually managed to hide their identities, but as they started becoming more and more popular, obviously, people and press found out who they were :))) Also they all design new masks for every new album they release. 7 albums, 7 different masks for each member. Also, they have been nominated for 8 Grammy Awards, and won 1, in 2006, for the song "Before I Forget"

Slipknot is one of the best bands
There is an operatic technique involved in correctly screaming or roaring without hurting yourself. Also breath control and still pitch is present when screaming. It's not that difficult but takes practice and mindfulness to avoid injury. Some metal vocalists have no such technique and suffer vocal cord failure.
Yes the fans have the same or more energy. I too am from Iowa, they're at least well known if not popular.
The masks were originally a way to protect the band from public scrutiny and paparazzi. Eventually the band members names became public so now they are just a gimmick. They change masks from album to album but each band member tends to stick to a theme. Shawn Crayhan always wears some form of clown mask Mick Thomson sticks to something like a cross between Hannibal lector and Jason. The lead singer, Corey Taylor has the most drastic changes in masks

The masks serve two purposes for the band; a) it lets ppl focus more on the music rather than how they look, and b) it lets the members keep their anonymity.
It wasn't really meant to keep them anonymous, their names and faces were out there from the beginning. The second actual purpose was for them to let loose and be themselves. It allows them to be one with the music.

Interviews also have their names full on put right in front of you, and the amount of photos that were taken backstage or when the band wasn't playing back then is astronomical.

We are more of a family than a fanbase. Obviously there will always be gatekeepers in every community but the majority of us are super welcoming and will help educate you on the band/bring you in.

To answer your teeny question. It's branding really metal music usually deals with heavier topics therefore it would stand to reason the set in which they chose to play in would reflect the overall mood of the music the masks allow them to have a primary focus on the music and not whose playing it
There are some of us that feel like our thought process is going like this all the time, but while listening to music that represents the disconnectedness of these thoughts helps us to calm the disconnection down and put the different streams of thoughts together. Many of the people like this work in the backend computer systems that run this world. I don't know if it is because there are so many streams of data and process that have to integrate and come out making sense or something else but it is something that I have seen with different IT teams all over the world.

Slipknot rules the fuckin world ...... they are the nightmare dreams are made of. Corey, and his band members, are some of the most talented musicians. The masks change per album. Slipknot has outlasted most other bands, and has been doing amazing songs for decades.
Ngl I love this band cus to me it’s hype music and music to de stress it’s unhealthy to suppress anger so I play this with a few games and I feel soo much better (also video games that are violent are not the problem I play call of duty one of the most toxic games ik but I never owned a gun irl and it’s not hard to get one in my state for me this opens my mind and frees my soul from myself)

My assessment of your reactions: You listen to a lot of rap, so when you get the initial beat you know it will stay like that for 3mins+ (i.e. Rap God, California Love, etc). Therefore, the entire time you're focusing on the lyrics and bobbing your head to 4/4 beat.
In Rock, however, the initial focus (in my opinion) should be on the music, the instruments, when it comes to a first listen. Because, if the music sucks, the lyrics don't matter.
There are tons of fantastic lyrics in folk and country music, but most of the instruments there sucks and lacks creativity, so I never listen to the amazing lyrics (Bob Dylan).
My advice to Rap listeners listening to Rock for the first time. If the instruments don't move you, fancy lyrics won't change your perceptive of the song.
Listen to Tool without the lyrics, hear the riff changes, the movement of the songs, the patterns, then, when you read the lyrics, they will blow your mind. Example, the song Lateralus talks about breaking from the pattern, the convention, the "normal". All while the instruments are very patterned and the syllables are to the Fibonacci sequence. The instrument time signatures are very precise in varying degrees (9/4, 8/4, 7/8, repeat). Or Rage Against the Machine's guitar solos that sound like a DJ is scratching. etc.
Or, in this case, the creativity of a "clank" of a baseball bat to a keg. Can you now, after hearing it, imagine this song without it?

If Slipknot scares you that bad then you'll absolutely love bands like Slaughter to Prevail, Lorna Shore, Infant Anmihilator etc. Don't even bother checking out black metal. I think kpop, modern autotune rap and pop rock is more your style.
