"Middle school me loved it" is such a good category. There are definitely YA books that just don't work as an adult, but I would never keep younger readers from enjoying them.
me about to start cleaning and seeing this upload: hell yeah
Me about to start reading and seeing this upload: yup
I need this as a list so I can check and read all the top ones
me too!
same!
I agree
Here you go :)
I'm definitely going to give your top tiers a try. Didn't see you rank LOTR, it's god tier for me:)
I know, I'm shocked she hasn't read those!
I’ve read fantasy books for decades and shocked so many classics are missing. I look through the list and don’t really recognise them as fantasy books, more just teenager books
Books are life. They have been a huge part of my life since I was a child. And I started reading adult fantasy since middle school, so I've been reading both adult and YA since I was young lol.
I'm so happy that you've liked "the promise of winter": a french book that had a huge success in France but is practically unknown in the US, as far as I can tell, judging from booktubers. Great video !
I think it’s so funny that we have such different taste in books (Like you don’t like a lot of books I really enjoyed) but your still my favorite booktuber, because I think you are such an amazing and nice person and I love watching your videos ❤️🙈
So…you’ve dragged me into the world of Fantasy. So far - great stuff.
God tier:
Fifth season:
Not my taste, but readble
Fools series:
Same excellency that was got for me reading the "Name of wind" and "wise's fear" books
Ship of magic
First law series by Joe Abercrombie
The way of kings
Still sticking to read the others
OMG I'm so happy you've read Magyk by Angie Sage! I feel like no one has even heard of it because it got overshadowed by Harry Potter...
I was so happy when you mentioned the original Shadowhunter series by Cassandra Clare. I absolutely loved the first three in the series, but hated the last three (mostly because of Clary's brother), so I feel the exact same way when trying to rank all 6 as a series instead of individual books or two separate trilogies.
omg okay regan dropping a 45 min vid THANK YOU
I always add so many books to my TBR after watching Regan’s videos 😁 Can’t wait to read all these new books!
Definitely agree about the Priory of the Orange Tree. So many great parts but I was disappointed in the arc and parts of the ending. Felt like it would’ve made a much better trilogy to build out the characters a bit more. But still really enjoyed it :)
And Robin Hobb is by far my favorite author. Farseer Trilogy is God tier for me. Currently on the Ship of Magic and I’m already obsessed. Can’t wait to finish and read all of her stuff!
Thanks for sharing your list! Always fun to see what you’re reading and what you think of each book!
This is just an incredible video. I enjoyed it so much because our tastes in fiction are so similar, even though you did put a couple of books I really enjoyed in the "No" category (no worries!). Anyway, I can't read all the titles, so a list really would be helpful.
❤️ this amazing, thorough review!! I keep pausing the video to snag samples of your recommendations!
QUESTION: What software did you use to make your tier system?
The Girl Who Drank the Moon would be a NO for me. Several other series I have been excited to start have landed in your no tier. I think I’ll check them out of the library for my first read. This was interesting. Thank you!
The page is called Tier Maker, you can create your own, with the categories you'd like
Yeah I tried reading it and it was just a no. Ended up giving it to a friend
Cool video!! Didn't see you rank Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, those are God tier for me. Definitely agree with Stormlight being in God tier.
I also was wondering why those weren't included....and disagree with GOT ranking despite the possibility we may never see it finished.
“It’s weird necromancers in space, but honestly it’s kind of a vibe” sold me on the book tbh😂
You should read Peter nimble and his fantastic eyes! I would love your opinion on it. It’s a middle grade book, fantasy. I read it in my childhood and recently and since I loved it then it was so nostalgic but I would love your unbiased review!!!
Interesting! Is it peer pressure, I can’t help but put Wheel and GOT in God tier personally, that left me stunned lol. I’m on book 9 of Wheel and 4 of GOT, I need to finish them before starting Ship and First Law. You still need to try Dark Tower even if you hate King 🤣 though the first book is pretty bad, you have to keep the faith 🙏
I'd switch live ship and stormlight I think, but definitely agree with them being top 2!
I feel like we’d be such good friends lol similar book faves and even clothing faves! I have that same shirt and I love your style and book reccs
Noticed you have not read Rick Riordan’s Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series… as a 26yo woman who loves Riordan/mythology/middle grade fantasy and is about to start book 3… I would highly recommend!
Regan I think you would LOVE the magicians guild series by Trudi canavan it’s set in a magic school and has politics and intrigue
This is my favorite series of all time! I recomend it too :)
Looooove this! But I find it funny you didn’t rank Lord of the Rings or Eragon. Definitely worth the read, if you haven’t
I feel like a lot of people hate Rubyred, but for a german (its originally written in german) this book and trilogy was everything for me in the teenage years 😭 t
Fellow German here,
As a kid I was already way too pretentious and refused to read Rubyread, but the Silver (?) trilogy was my jam (they were all named something like "das erste/zweite /dritte Buch der Träume")
Do you also remember them?
I recently just finished The Bone Orchard, I discovered it thanks to one of your amazing reading vlogs! Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention 🥰it’s one of my new favorites!
I dont get the First Season
People either love it or say its garbage
Which is it?
Daughter of the Forest might be my #1 🥲 the second book in the series is incredible too. I enjoyed them alllll except for one of them. Thank you for this extensive video! I just started Infernal Devices bc of your recommendation!
Zahrah the Windseeker is an incredible middle grade fantasy standalone, it was my absolute favorite in middle school and I recommended it to everyone. It still really holds up and it seems like something you might enjoy!
i love how reagan has six positive categories and just one negative one
Mistborn, Lord of the Rings, and Terry Pratchett's Discworld are the top tiers for me that aren't on the list. Not sure you'd love LotR or Discworld, but Mistborn seems like you almost definitely would.
Thanks for doing that! I’m new to the channel and I think what you do is fantastic. Is there any way you would make the list available in the description? There are so many picks 😱
Liveships yeah!! Impressive list. Is Tawny Man in there somewhere? I’m so with you on Dresden, and many of your rankings. Except Jonathan Strange and GOT … God Tier for me all the way! 😄
does anyone know what the book at 35:27 is? i cannot for the life of me figure out what the title of that book is...."I K"? "Ayakay"? "Eye Kay"? no clue pls help
My biggest gripe is that tawny man isn't above liveship! like i definitely agree that they're both god tier, but tawny man for me was where it was at, and i'd have thrown assassins apprentice in god tier too. The only other thing is that I actually nearly hated the rainwild chronicles, that series as a whole is just good, the last two books saved it for sure. Just some Robin Hobb controversy on this sunday!
I know based on some similar reads to mine, you have to have read Harry Potter, so just wondering where it is on your list? Even if you don't like j.k. rowling anymore, it would still be a read series so just wondering where it would fall.
Also for some reason brandon sanderson is in touchable and what he's said about being gay is much worse in my opinion
Could we have a list of all the books?
Always happy to see other people who love scott lynch and Robin hobb. So many other books I want to read 📚
Wow, can’t believe you haven’t read Harry Potter at all!!!
She's read it, but I bet she's not going to talk about it because of some effort to virtue signal to trans activists.
You need to read Bond Shard Daughter (Drowning Empire Trilogy)!
Amazing! Would LOVE to see this for other genres too, so I know what to check out!
I can't blame those who have fallen in love with you and your project 💖
This a great list, The Cruel Prince, Sorcery of Thorns and Six of Crows would have been god tier for me though
Love love love shadow of the gods myself as well as John Gwynne in general
I understand your love for Robin Hobb, for three years i'm saving the last book of the tawny man trilogy because it hurts me to say goodbye to Fitz and the Fool, i just can't... But where is Lord of The Rings??? No Lord of The rings is desapointing, Tolkien is God!
This year i read trillers but next year i'm going back to fantasy
I had no idea kiss of deception and dance of thieves were connected! Learn new things everyday 👀
It is time everyone stop apologizing for loving Twilight, it is hilarious to me the adults that still feel the need to over comment about loving these books. Peer pressure is poison, we all still have them on our shelves for a reason. lol
I agree, the same people would rave about loving other "objectively bad" books that are on the same level as twilight but are somehow hesitant about liking twilight.
@@elsasnow6224 Exactly.
Is it possible that you have not read Guy Gavriel Kay ? If not you really really should. Maybe give his first series a miss but everything else is great.
Flawless content! If this subject captures your imagination, a book with matching themes is a great option. "Stars Aligned" by Olivia Whitestone
You have the first 3 of the mirror visitor series displayed right behind you but I didn't see you rank them? I'm sure you've spoken about them before so thought you had read them? I would love to know your thoughts, I loved the first 2 in the series, thought the 3rd was ok but the 4th was bizarre!
They are ranked in Demi god tier!
@@PeruseProject ahh sorry! Don't know how I missed that! 😊
I would have sworn you were the creator to put A Memory Called Empire and Master of Sorrows on the map for me!
Can you help? Someone said they had an early teen sister ("Hire a teen while they still know everything."), who insisted Science & Math were not for girls. He asked for book suggestions to change this opinion. BUT - all the book suggestions the protagonist was socially awkward, troubled, etc. Not something to persuade a teen girl to pursue math & science. What books for early teens have smart girls who also have friends, boyfriends and a social life?
Paola Santiago and the river of tears!! Also Seekers by Eleanor Glewwe
Pivot Point and Split Second by Kasie West! it's a light sci-fi duology where a high school girl named Addie has the power to "Search" into the future when given a choice to see how each path would play out given what she chooses. i found it to be unique, appropriate for a teenage girl. Addie is smart, has friends, and there is a romance. it's not like a mind-boggling series but i found it entertaining!
Mistborn: The Final Empire (adult fantasy) and Skyward (young adult scifi) (two different series but both by Brandon Sanderson) also feature very capable teenage girls as protagonists.
also, i'm a girl and have bachelor's degrees in physics and math, and will have a master's degree in math at the end of the year! science and math can definitely be for girls!
Give her the Nsibidi Script series by Nnedi Okorafor. Akata Witch, Akata Warrior and Akata Woman.
Still no Modesitt and did not see any David Gemmell... or did I miss it?
Are you planning on continuing with the thread of power (the next establish in the darker shade of magic series)
I read The Midnighters when I was 20 I think (a decade ago 😳) and liked but I don’t think I’d like it now. Glad I read it when I did cu I was able to appreciate it then
I'm so happy i found book UA-cam lmao
I love Booktube too! Hearing book reviews is almost an escape in itself .
This was helpful and lots of fun!
I just read Ella Enchanted and really enjoyed it!
great video I watched the whole thing haha
*Shuffles tbr furiously according to what Regan says is priority*
Did you ever read Flamefall (Fireborne sequel)? The series is god tier for me!
I LOVE these videos 😍🤩📚
I liked the first WoT book but I had to quit at the third, like I couldn't stand the characters or the storytelling, I wanted to like it so bad it made me rage quit 😭😅
Was the Crave series here?
No Harry Potter?
I reacted to this too and LOTR
Dresden Files is good stuff but I understand how it could be a no for other people. The books are fun for me, but they aren’t masterpieces. The can be predictable at times and they feel very episodic. Not to mention the humor is a bit of an acquired taste. I personally LOVE the Dresden Files but I would never give it a rank as high as I would give The Name of the Wind. That said, I’ll reread the Dresden Files many more times and I’m not sure how many times I’ll reread The Name of the Wind (even though I cried like a baby and loved it a ton). Dresden Files is an enjoyable meaningless sitcom I turn to for something light and fun.
Did she not read lor?
Uprooted and Howl's Moving Castle would be at least demi-god tier for me.
My cousin liked the first book in the Dresden Files series and gave it to me when she finished, but I didn't like it either.
Yeaaaaah I hated the books that came after the first 3 of the mortal instruments. City of Glass was the best and I couldn’t get through the 5th. I just gave up altogether lol. The Infernal Devices is by far the best, and I’m planning on starting Chain of Gold soon!
I just started internal devices as my first Cassandra Clare book! How would you rate it ? I’m a few chapters in and hope I love it I so want to get addicted to a series right now!
My god tier is exactly like yours. Except for the n.k. Jemison :)
I feel what you say about Wheel of Time. I started my first read of it and for me it's ok but not great. I feel like it's one of those series high fantasy readers feel like they have to rate high because it's a classic even though there is a lot to criticise.
Where’s LOTR? For me is God Tier
Way of kings is much much better than ship of magic.. SA is the king of fantasy genre.. And mistborn, warbreaker and elantris is so low?? Are you crazy??
I can't with this girl putting every single book from my tbr in heart eyes, good or no while putting the books I dislike in great or demigod, I'm literally about to yeet my laptop😠
How are you going to do Kvothe dirty like that
I was waiting for the wit her series or the rest of lord of the rings.
Sorcery of thorns 😭
Hello from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦👋👍♥️🌲🌲🌲🧘♀️🚵♀️🌲🌲🌲
I'm crushed to find Daughter of the Moon Goddess in the NO category :( Haven't read it yet but it WAS a 5 star prediction until now. :/
I personally found it to be a great read! i gave it 4.75 stars, i thought it was incredible.
I loved this book so much!
@@kiandrarodgers3436 oh, yaay, glad it got a high rating from you
@@BBDRMZZZZ I read it in March and it’s definitely not one I’d say is seasonal- like the celestial kingdom is in perpetual spring and while that’s acknowledged through the story I wouldn’t say it affects when to read.
@@kiandrarodgers3436 Thanks so much. I'll read it now during summer, just to get similar vibes🌸🌼
Wheel of Time only gets worse from book 4 and out, until Sanderson takes over, IMO. So probably won't climb out of good, if you haven't liked it that much yet.
Sanderson fans are another breed of hot takes
@@grey-f-o-x I wasn't fan of and didn't know who Sanderson was before reading WoT. I just noticed a huge up swing in the quality. Especially when it came to characters. Suddenly all the female characters got personalities and reasons behind their actions.
Call it hot take if you will, but I'm glad Sanderson finished those books.
I like most of your choices but I don't like city of brass. It feels like the author took some middle east fantasy setting and some indian mythology. Mixed them in a horrible mixture which western audiance can't distinguish.
See now, The Fifth Season is a no for me. I read the first book, and it made me physically sick. It wasn’t the 2nd person pov that turned me off, it was the content. I decided to check the basic summaries of the other two books in the series, and I am glad I did. I DNFed with no regrets.
whoa, as someone who recently bought it and hasn't gotten to it yet, do you mind sharing what bothered you so much? (if that's possible to do without spoiling too much)
@@carolineblueskies in my case it was the things that happened to children that triggered me the worst. Child abuse (physical, mental, emotional), child murder (more than one), enslavement of children, parents killing children…
I struggle with anxiety, and I am the mother of young children, so that book basically gave me nightmares. 😬
@@annmoore321 Thank you for sharing! I can imagine that would be very difficult to read, especially without warnings beforehand.
I agree with you, read the first book and that was enough.
No Dark Tower?
So cool!
Have you ever read Harry Potter?! 😮
Yeah she has…idk why it’s not on the list
Probably because she “doesn’t want to support the author” which is stupid imo
@@anniemcconnell869 That’s stupid 🙄
Kings of the wyld in No is insane to me. I think you should have a tier that is titled "not for me". Because "No" sounds like you are calling it an objectively bad book, which it is VERY far from.
Was watching this to find new book recomendations, but I had to head out after watching you put Vampire Academy in the NO tier, because it's a telltale sign that our book tastes are quite different. I do agree Percy Jackson is demi-god tier tho!

wow youtube just shoved 5 adds in a row on this video
i really wanna get into robin hobb! does anyone have recommendations on which of her boooks/series i should start with?
Either live ship or assassin's apprentice.
On the topic of Jim Butcher as someone who read them all for a challenge, the Dresden files is filled, FILLED. With msyogny, sexism, creepy comments about an underage women, and something about an outcast white man always acting like “woe is me” is really sad. Don’t feel bad I just think sometimes others read with action in mind, which the action is good and miss the details between the fighting and sleuthing. No judgement if you like it just I totally understand why you wouldn’t
Hello
Why didn't you include Harry Potter in this video? I have never seen the Harry Potter books on your shelf. Do you have them? PLEASE TALK ABOUT HARRY POTTER IN DEPTH IN YOUR NEXT VIDEO. It's my favorite book series of all time.
She had HP in the first video in God tier
She doesn’t talk about Harry Potter because of the transphobic comment made by J K Rowling.
a song of ice and fire is god tier, come now...
This was the video that made me unsubscribe to your channel. I used to love your videos, the atmosphere and the grown-up reviews. But taking a series off this ranking because of something the author stands for is just childish and I don't see the point in it. Got me quite upset and I thought about it a long time and decided your channel was not worth my sub. Now I will not watch your videos anymore. Hope you will have a continued nice day.
