    Really good job on the video! Very thorough and well explained. Probably could skip how to open the hood part, because if you haven't figured out how to do that on your own, then you probably shouldn't be doing this job!

    Took on this project for the first time after watching your tutorial. Your step by step visual instruction on a laptop has put the Chilton's Manual out of business. Thank you for your time and instruction. Saved me a lot of money.

    Another excelent video ! Lexus RX300 has an nealy identical situations which has driven me nuts ! I would like to share some tips with the DIYers here.
    1 The enging hanger is actually a C-shaped chanel, which make the 14mm bolt even more dificult to be removed because the bolt top is flashed with the flange. So I decide to grind off the flange at driver side near the bolt so the bolt will be easily reached with a 14mm ratchting wrench.
    2 I modified the grounding point of two grounding wires from behind of the intake chamber to the side. Adding a piece of new wire is an very easy job.
    3 The third useful tip is for the cam cover gasket. A common proble for the 1mzfe engine is gasket leaking even with the new gasket. Over titen the 10mm shouder bolts around the cover is some times useless. The effective way is add one or two washers on each bolt.

      Replace the blinker fluid every 30,000 miles. It tends to get dirty. AND the filter for it.

    Pretty good video except you forgot 2 things.
    To tell people to clean the engine surface and that if they had oil leaking into the plugs like you did, to use a paper towel to soak it up and compressed air if they have it to absorb it.

    Replacement of 4-Cyl Highlander engine valve cover gasket is much easier than a 6-Cyl 3.3L engine, which I am in the process of doing. Removing the 12mm bolt on the middle bracket of plenum manifold is extremely difficult.

  • @mengsong7554
    @mengsong7554 4 роки тому +8

    You should never flip the valve cover right over the open engine because contamination could fall inside and make it worse. Just my opinion.

    I had a mechanic replace Gasket but occasionally still smell fumes. Why? I paid 600.00 for this job plus I am feeling sick from the fumes. Toyota cost too much and every time I take my car to Toyota they find something wrong that cost over 1,000.00. Sometimes, I feel like they are pulling a wool over my head. I don't like to be taken advantage.

    • @1AAuto

      +Nicholas Johnson Yes, it would need to be properly torqued. You will need to tighten the engine cover fasteners to 7 Nm (62 lb in). Thank you.

      @@1AAuto how do you know / measure the torque ? Also i see estimates online that this can be a $1500 to $4000 dollar job. I don't understand why. It doesn't seem that complicated. How much would you say is an average price ? Why is it so much? Thanks.

    My mom's car completely died out on her. When I opened the hood I noticed oil+debris all over the engine block (i.e like shown in your vid). I took off the valve cover and noticed the broken valve gasket (just one area). But my question is, would this be the cause for engine failure? The engine wont crank over. Any ideas?
