Johnny, that last thumping sound on the V7 was "the one", that "vintage vibe" that most basses can't produce. On the other hand, that bass mods would go home with me. I'd name it "JOKER" and I'd wear the frets off that joint. Thank you for the inspiration you've been adding to your videos, we love and appreciate them. Much respect to and for you, the queen, hootie and the hobo depot, peace ✌️ 🙏🏾 ✨️ ❤️ ♥️ 💙
Thanks for teaching fellow bass players how to think, act, and try out instruments at music stores! lol Very helpful information. And I think that was so cool to have some insight on how your mind is working and thinking when you go into a music store. Great content man!
Great chops, John! I played a V7 yesterday and felt it was a little too weighty for me. The tone was MM himself, but man, I can't hold the heavys anymore. Peavey T40 weight almost.
Its definitely a neck killer after a 3 set night at the club. I have a first generation V75 but the preamp went out on it after about a year. I haven't replaced the preamp yet but after seeing this video I really miss that sound. I've been playing a M5 and its definitely easy on the back. The M2 was just a little too lightweight for me. Definitely wasn't going to get an M7.
I have the exact same Sire as the one in this video and have always loved it. After seeing this video, I must have a Bassmods. Best sounding bass I've ever heard.
The only knobs that work on the Sire in passive are the volume, blend and the tone which is the lower knob on the volume stack. That tone works in active and passive.
God bless sir, your attention to the stuff that really matters is special, love the sound of the bass mods, it's got the twang in its sound, however I prefer the sound of the sire,I believe it will cover different work situations better, plus for what it cost, its a winner for me, may the almighty keep you and your family safe sir...
Hi Johnny, there is no high mid or low mid on the sire. It has a mid and a mid sweep and works much differently than how you described it. Also the tone is the bottom knob stacked below the volume.
Awesome bass demonstration. You really highlighted what the Sire sounds like. I have a V7 Vintage second generation 5 string that I had Bass Mods Phatty 5 pickups added to, and the bass is now my favorite bass.
I will side with the Sire V7, due to its heavy bottom & vintage tonality (Fenderish) I have had two very very high end boutique basses that were quit costly however I was not able to use either of them on any recording due to their extremely individualizing tonal distinctions. Defenetly not for the road $$$$ and they soon became trophies. I feel that Sire has nailed the ability to use this Bass in all atmospheres. Road, studio, playability. I personally Frankenstiened a V7 with BARTS 57-J , Michael Pope flexcore, hipshot tuners, custom bridge from (Fender custom shop) special thanks to Richard B. & $350 & 3 months. And it has had a couple cosmetic upgrades like a Fender 3pc. Marcus Miller pickguard, EMG-black metal mini knobs, natural oiled neck - finished removed, super jumbo titan frets, adjustable brass nut. This has been my full time for about a year now and I'm having another one built identical except I'm going to put Delano's instead of Barts just for testing purposes but if it doesn't growl like my FrankenSire those Barts are going right in. I'm telling you this bass is a BEAST!!!!! I'll send you pix.....
Thank you for the comparison. I have a Sire... Love it. That tone control under the volume needs some work. I was looking at Phil Jones a few years ago. I went with Bugera instead. I ordered a BBC 1215 this morning. Thanks for turning the world onto them. Best of luck in all you do Brother.
I’ve gotta be honest I had a Sire 2nd Gen V7 Ash body/Maple fretboard and it’s a killer bass, easy playing neck as well but I’m a bass player who was in search of Beefier tone so I sold my V7 and ordered my Bass Mod bass with Aguilar pickups and preamp and right away I could tell the difference in detail from the woods, Ash body with maple fretboard. Yea I had to spend at least $1500.00 but honestly I don’t regret it my bass is a freaking tone monster 👹 and Bass Mods necks come plecked so if your on a budget hell yea get the Sire but eventually you’ll wanta start modding but if you can save a few more bucks I would go with Bass Mods you can get your bass built to sound how you want it
What exact model is that Bassmods? I have the Fred Hammond signature bass which is absolutely beautiful but I must have that purple one. I'd like to email them and ask if it will ever be in stock again. Thanks in advance
Both tremendous basses for the money. For me, the BassMods. I have one and love it; just makes me want to keep playing. They only thing that makes me put it down is the weight, lol. Oh well, if it were lighter, it'd probably be Sadowsky money (aka 3x - 4x more $).
thats why you need to choose the chambered option when you are selecting my brother. chambered is should be an option for all basses because it doesnt do any negative effects, if anything its better sustain and the biggest deal is REDUCED WEIGHT!!
The last time I checked there was no chamber option offered by Robert ??...maybe he has started offering it now due to the weight ...I will say ..mine is a tad on the heavy side if that bothers anyone....not super heavy but has so.e weight!!
I have the Sire P7 & Vintage V7. For those who don't take time to understand the tone/knob configuration the bass will wreck U! But,,,if you take time to learn the tone controls the basses are monsters. Great Sire demo Johnny 🎸🎸🎸
There is a small price difference between those two basses also!! I own a Bassmods Custom J5 with a roasted maple neck and board with the BM Big Phatty p/HS and MC3 preamp ...and there is not a Sire bass from the factory that can even begin to hang with my Bassmods!!! I have others that I like the tone better than my BM ....BUT I have never heard a BAD sounding Bassmods !!! Ohhhhh and SHAAAAADDAKAKA!!!!!
No Robert still makes 6 stringers ...just have to order them ...they do not make any model of four string bass though as they stopped after the Ethan Farmer Sig model 4.....trust me I have TRIED.....lol...
@@basshoh I just need parts for my bass. In particular the cover for the batteries💡 I appreciate your expertise. I’m sure these batteries covers are universal and “Bassmods” has a cover. so I don’t have to keep TAPE, on my beautiful bass😕
Man! Is that bassmods, up for sale? Wow what a super nice looking and sounding bass. Always brother Long great delivery and awesome quality of videos. My prayers continue to go forth in your bass ministry. 💯💣💥🎸
Bass Mods 5 is huge! That toggle pop needs to be corrected but she's a Win. Fender is Never a loser. But she's not as hot as the BM5. Nonetheless, nice demo.
Johnny, please redo the Sire review. U can set the mid freq then boost and cut. It is not hi/lo mids. Also the tone know works in both passive and active mode.
for the MONEY,YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT A SIRE,BEST BUDGET BASSES ON THE MARKET AND THE SIRE M7 6-STRING BASS IS KILLING THE GAME OF 6-STRING BASSES,YALL BETTER GET IT RIGHT
To my ears the Bassmods 5 totally blew away the Sire in this video, and I have a Sire P7. But I've heard other vids where the Sire sounded amazing. In your video Bassmods wins. Maybe it was just louder and therefore sounded much beefier. Great playjng!
The Sire preamp doesn't have high and low mids. It has a mid level, and mid frequency control. You said the same thing on a tone monster pre review with a swept mid. Just sayin. 😎
I'm just over joyed that you said thump instead of slap, it's funny how one culture creates something, and another copies style, change the name and now it becomes the stander that has risen in the new culture of bass playing, and the Godfathers, icons, innovators, and creators of this styles are not honored, credited or names not mention in an interview, come on guys let's call it what it is and let the history be what it is and respect the man who created it out of a need not for the glory here's to you Mr. Larry Graham, so for thoses who don't know, it's THUMP, HAMMER, PLUCK, never slap your bass, it may slap you back.

Hey Johnny, the the knob under the volume knob is your passive knob on your Sire bass.

Oh, and I did have a Peavy T40 in my teen years. I called it "The coffee table"🤣
I have the exact same Sire as the one in this video and have always loved it. After seeing this video, I must have a Bassmods. Best sounding bass I've ever heard.

THANKS - JOHNNY - YOUR ON POINT AND DEEPLY IN TUNE ABOUT THE BASS PLEASE KEEP IT COMING . UNTIL NEXT TIME GOD BLESS.
Those basses have a great sound ! Sha da ka ka Johnny!
Cool basses! 😍😍
I've been playing the Sire V7 vintage 5 string for 3 months and to my ears it sounds definitely like a Fender 70s jazz bass 😍😍💙
The passive tone is under the volume knob and the Mid is cut/boost upper knob and frequency sweep lower knob. NOT hi/lo Mid.

Thanks Johnny for the shootout. I have both basses, and like you said you pretty much can make them both do want you want to.
Love that Purple with Goldplated hardware, but I'm a Green fanatic.😊
I got my 5 string fender deluxe with bartolini electronics for 700 slightly used bass is easily worth over 1000, it depends on where you are tbh

Haven't played one of their basses, but I have their (now sadly discontinued) 35AP preamp in my main bass. It sounds absolutely fantastic!
