I can’t swim let alone surf but ever since I watched 100ft wave documentaries from beginning to end I think I know why these men and women seek these waves out. Perhaps I’m wrong but I think part of that is feeling the raw power of Mother Nature up close and personal and realising how incredibly fragile we are in comparison to her presence.
😮Visiting from Ontario Canada l was there in February 2024 it is the scariest thing I have ever saw but so amazed. Congratulations on doing that Humongous wave be safe out there
What a wave... In all fairness... . Respect to the jet ski bods.... . Wave in, wave out..., They are there planting the surfers, but risking their lives' at all costs. The surfers know how to ride the wave, but the jetties' know how to ride in and out of the waves.👌
Just to watch? You're the 2nd person there to watch. I need to make that trip. A friend is going this week for business, it makes me think I should join them.
@@kirthgersen2485 yeah my gf and I were there. The views were great and the winds blowing up on the view point were the strongest I've ever felt. Also Nazare is such a cute and cheap town
Was there on 04-06.11.2023 and saw a bit smaller wave actions around 10m but unfortunatelly conditions were not in favour of surfers so seeing just waves was a bit different as there is no point of reference and those waves are quite far from shore. Some was I think 12m (guessing) but these was different Animals 😀 Sad that I am quite far from Nazare (Riga, Latvia) and getting there too often in a hurry 48h is quite a costly. Thanks for this video my friend. Definitely will catch some day that one exact true swell to see these 20-25m mamas with my own eyes 🤤
Thank you for sharing your experience, I hope you get to witness those epic swells at Nazare someday soon! Maibe those waves were just shy when you were here and didn't want to show off their full potential, I think you should give them a second chance!! heh

@@barenafilmsport Yes, there was a moment when It almost knocked you over and when it rained it was impossible because they were like needles hitting your face. On Friday afternoon they already surfed some with a very strong wind, they are crazy. But Saturday was the special day, I was there from 8 to 13 and the truth is you are not aware of what you see until you see a video like this haha. They are not waves, they are mountains of water. I had been looking for a day like this for years and I finally found it, I traveled more than 1000km by car to see them and with the prediction in my hand all day haha. Great video, let's see if I buy an apartment there, I'm in love with Nazare
Man that ain't surfin', that's a rodeo. Rough offshore. They can't even make the bottom of the wave. Wind & water going up the face? They shouldn't be out there. But the show must go on! 😎🇺🇲

Surfing the shoulder is because if they get to deep they would get eaten by the wave, the wave is so big and so much water pushing up that is hard to gain speed!
Crazy size, courageous surfers waterskiing. There is a fine line between actually surfing these waves and just outrunning them into the channel. Personally I will never count this spot for world records. It’s the size it is because it is a wedge. Besides Kai Lenny and Lucas, and maybe some others I have not yet seen, surf these waves. Everyone else is just water skiing across the face to the channel. That’s not surfing in my book. Say what you want, but almost nobody out there would/could surf waves this size if the actually broke down the line over a reef like Jaws or Cortez Bank.
respect for risking your life, but being towed in vs. dropping in is not the same thing. He's a third of the way down the face and then rides it to the edge. Is this really a complete ride, like dropping in at Mavericks or Waimea on a gun down a 30+ foot face. No disrespect meant at all, but should be completely different records.
Hey Kelly! thanks for your point of view, I understand your vision on smaller days, the only thing is that in days with this conditions and this size of waves its almost imposible to drop the waves doing tow in.. imagine paddling.. profesional guys already tried to paddle in MUCH SMALLER days and found it imposible.
As far as I can tell there were just "really big waves" that might be contenders but there wasn't a specific one and we won't know for a while until they've all been reviewed by the various governing bodies. But... #worldrecord does draw a lot of attention.
Axactly! There were for sure some huge bombs with world record potencial.. but measuring them takes time and is complicated so now is time to wait for the official measures!

Those on the jet ski's are just as heroic as those on the boards imo, you really need to understand the sea to maneuver like that.
Does anyone know the top speeds the surfers hit while riding waves this size?
60 miles

Seems more like skiing than surfing. Down the wave and on the shoulder before it breaks. It’s rad but not really surfing to me.
Surfing the shoulder is because if they get to deep they would get eaten by the wave, the wave is so big and so much water pushing up that is hard to gain speed!
I count about 12 ways to get killed here.
Sounds like a challenge! Let's see if we can avoid all 12 ways.

Kind of slope assisted water skiing isn’t it. Enjoy watching the power of the sea but surfing this isn’t.
