I think this release is a huge step forward! I look forward to MP games going back to the dom5 model where MP game rules don't ban builds or nations by default outside the underwater issue on some maps and Ubar (Shaytan corruption check vs 13 is still OP and hard to counter build against, since morale blesses don't help). I do think the Fear cost nerfs were probably overkill, and the non Demilich immortals also didn't need a cost change, but the impact on the game of those details is minimal; a few of the vast majority of builds you can do being maybe overpriced/situational has so much less impact on the game than mistuned core mechanics like the Fear hit rate. I've still got a list of things that feel off balance wise to my eye, but this release fixed most of the ones that aren't moddable and some of the ones that are in a nice way, which is huge. And I'm probably wrong on some of the others.
The unholy weapon thing is mainly for ranged friendly fire for sure, makes sense thematically that it wouldn't harm your own stuff. Love all these changes! The fear changes are a great QoL /balance change for newer players especially. I like stuff that encourages more varied blesses.
As an LA Ulm player, I am really feeling the impact of some of these changes. We all know Demilich was a problem. It had this nerf coming. But why the Vampire Queen? She didn’t deserve that. She was bad before, and is terrible now. Vampiric Weapons is sooo cool and I would love to see it become as feared and loved as the Magic Weapons bless
The fear change actually secretly makes awake expanders that use fear to shorten time fighting indies just a bit harder to use. If you're scared of the barbs or heavy cav doing chip damage. They're no longer gonna rout as fast and you'll need to kill more, resulting in a much higher chance of wounds.
Nah Lucid, fear was busted and still is very strong because of how morale works. Saying people were "crying" is bit unfair. It was a rapid reduction of morale causing double checks on each unit affected to rout (one visible one not). It's less obnoxious if someone bothers to bend their backs and bump morale to 20s and higher giving more time before units will still just roll poorly. Well deserved nerfs. And yes it is capped to 10, otherwise you could stack items to silly numbers. Master lich price is ridiculous.
Multiplayer elites got thier wish list met while Single Players from Dominions 3 are still waiting for suicide naked pretenders to be fixed and the AI to stop suiciding armies into thrones and through sailing, the AI not blessing its troops and being unable to expand into larger indie groups.
Yeah Sombre's mods make the AI workable but really shouldn't be needed. I think the next thing on my list to campaign for is better starting armies to help early expansion both for humans and AI players. Some are ok but a lot are really chaffy, especially in later ages.
@@DemonsthenesDominions Sombres mods are a community crime for providing release day fixes without warning potential customers that the game AI had serious issues. Illwinter clearly intends Modders to fix their game and provide new content without profit sharing or assuring the labor they are exploiting isnt from minors.

Yeah are we sure all the immortal pretenders had a cost increase? I think really only the demilich needed a nerf.

A lot of expanders have fear 10+ so it wont effect them!

Also the fear bless nerf is really nice for single player; fear bless on AI Pretenders was one of the most annoying to play against.
