Hi, These tournaments are just local club tournaments or some court owner tournaments which they host using plastic shuttlecocks, but all the norms are followed for conducting official state/national tournaments and they use feather shuttle cocks.
Imo, using plastic shuttle is really a last resort kind of solution in tournemnt. Not to discredit these players, in fact I used it too when playing with my friend. It just because using feather shuttle is too expensive (ard 15us dollar or rm50 a tube for a good rsl shuttle here). Yea. It might sound not much, but back in the days, we were all students and often misses our shot. 1 night would cost us more than a tube if we were to replace every damaged shuttle to play. Often we use until its really unsable to save us money. And we play 3x 1 week. We tried using plastic shuttle. Ofc its cheap ard 1 us dollar per shuttle and the durability is superb. Can last for one week of plays. It just that, the sound it makes, how it tumble, the speed is not natural. And if you smashes too strong, the plastic area will be squished and its travel more like a bullet. We ended up using feather shuttle back and actually tried to play with less miss hit to lessen of breaking our feather shuttle. Ofc it has made our plays better than before. Its a lot better tu use feather shuttle, especially in a tournmnt condition.
wrong. Plastic and feather have different flight profile, you can't say feather is better than plastic, they are just slightly different. If one is good in badminton, you can play good in either feather or plastic. DON'T BLAME THE EQUIPMENT. If you don't like plastic, your opponents don;t like it either, so the game is still fair. Actually it is HARDER to play with plastic shuttle than feather, that is why feather player hate plastic, but plastic players don't mind playing feather shuttle. It required adjustment switching feather to plastic, if you can't do that, don't blame the shuttle used. Plastic shuttle is harder to tumble, harder to recover a tumble shuttle, harder to clear to back line accurately, plastic smashes go faster. Plastic players required more skills. Feather shuttle is more easy to play, required less skills. Only extra requirement for feather is you can whack it harder without going out of bound, and u can slice it better than plastic. I only hear complaint from feather players on plastic shuttle, not the other way around. More proof feather shuttles are easier than plastic shuttle to play with. Here are my gripes on feather shuttles: 1. difficult to get the correct speed shuttlecocks. I need 73 -74 speed, try to find those feather shuttlecocks 2. every brand flies slight different, my buddies all bring different brands, it fck up the game 3. feather shuttle flight profile changes during rallies as feather bits are breaking off after every hit. 4. too expensive. yonex AS40, AS50 and victor master No. 1, all 30-40 USD/tube 5. cheap friends bring cheap duck feather birds while i contribute AS40 birds, not fair. 6. My area climate is very dry, feathers don't last in dry weather.
plastic is just one different standard of playing. If pros all goes with plastic, it would set a new standard. If you look around, tennis, basketball, and most other sports all have switched to synthetic balls. Look at badminton, our early wooden rackets are now man made carbon fiber, gut strings to nylon type string, leather grip to synthetic grip. Why are we still stuck with feather shuttlecock?
@@andrewcannon587 Like I said, feather is expensive. Tho, imo, its still better for a tournemnt condition. If you think plastic is mkre stable, I dont think you played enough of plastic shuttle. 1. Yes, there are lots of feather shuttle speed ratings. That goes the same for plastic too. They have different weight. And we play which ever suit us. Theres no difference here in terms of speed ratings. 2. Yep. True also. Thats why tournmnt wise, only the organizer should bring 1 brand of shuttle to keep the standard set. Practice wise, its very common for anyone to bring their own brand of shuttle. Got to agree on you here. It does fck our playstyle. 3. I also said plastic is very durable. But it does not stand hard hit. Im not saying I can hit smashes like a pro, but I fought someone who can hit it hard enough that the plastic parts on the shuttle shrink soo small during flight and it flew like an upredictable bullet. Feather on the other hand, at least can maintain speed if the feather still in good conditions. Yea, we do not change even if we break 1 feather, if its still can maintain speed. We aint pro players. 4. True 5. True. Tho, in tournment conditions, only the organizer should come out with their standard of shuttle. The players should only pay for entry fee and compete. 6. No feather last long. Even the most expensive feather is soo easy to break. Id still blame the plastic shuttle if I cannot return a smash, Id still blame a broken feather if I cannot hit far enough high clear. Id also blame my racquet if its too heavy. Id blame my arm for not strong enough. Heck, Id blame the lighting for too bright. Id blame everything. No one just blame a single equipment for losing. We always find faults for losing. And I dont think pros or bwf never think to replace feather to a plastic. They should know better. They play the most and organize the most. Im not sure exactly why, but it definitly show feather still better in tournemnt condition. The complaints is more to the plastic is due because it is more problematic. If its better, the feather should have more complaints. Yea. Next time, we should be changing to a better materials of shuttle. But I havent seen the one that can out perform a feather yet. Maybe sometimes in the near future. Who knows.
@@andrewcannon587 Well I can say its more stable. Thats just it. For money and durability sake, it is totally worse. Thats why, if money is no problem, go for feather. Well, its totally true that its harder to play a plastic shuttle. Its harder to control, harder to predict, and you cant hear the whack sound of the feather hitting the string. But it never means plastic player are better tho. Skill wise, its the same. If you can play the hard plastic, you are not more skillfull than feather players. The lvl of players are not determined by the type of shuttle played. Go to a tournment, and check your own level. You dont get to call others less skills just because we dont play plastic. Just imagine you play Kento with a plastic. Can you call yourself more skillfull? You never know what others people skills level are. But again, we blame everything. Shuttle included. Thats how, well at least for me to improve, to get fun and enjoyable games. In the other hand, you can "show" more skills using feather tbh. You can control easier, can produce fancier shots, can explode whenever able. All of this is important for a tournement condition. All well very hard and even some impossible to achieve as you said using a plastic.

uhhhhhh, you guys who don't use plastics often enough obviously don't know enough about them. in super dry environments, its very difficult to keep feather shuttles from going brittle and so they aren't quite as durable. its easy for people to fall back to using plastics for practice and training, so the shuttle would last longer and be more consistent for a longer period of time. what some people do is use plastics for a lot of the times, and if there is a tournament that uses feathers, they'd switch to using feathers for the couple weeks leading up to the tournament. there are various speeds of plastics for people to choose from, just like there is for feathers. you just pick the appropriate speed for your altitude/temperature. the travel distance will be similar if you do the shuttle tests appropriately. the only real differences that i've noticed between plastic and feather is (obviously) the feel for how the shuttle interacts with your strings, and the travel trajectory. plastics seemingly hold onto horizontal travel a bit more, while feathers settle into its fall phase a bit sooner.

ok😂😂😂 did you have any experience on both shuttle every evening???? we use feathers shuttle when too much of electric light is not needed and use yellow plastic shuttle at night....and i know clearly which one is faster and which is slower...i don't need to master physics to know this things..coz i experience it every day 😁😁and also...im a business man not a scientists...and next time you keeep quiet if you don't clearly have any experience about what is discussed 👍👍👍
@@msa12998 being in business doesn't justify you for being ignorant. There is a science behind it and you clearly doesn't know about it.
