Charli had big charting hits in the mid 00s, sort of generic pop sound. She decided to completely veer away from this, exploring and collaborating with a label called PC music and their hyperpop sound which was really new and still relatively underground at the time. Her hyperpop debut was the EP Vroom Vroom which saw a huge spike in hyperpop listens and soonafter came a lot of other hyperpop artists. She helped popularise hyperpop to the mainstream and become a tangible genre and sound.
This is far from my favorite song of hers, but that hook has somehow ear-wormed itself into my brain for days now… It’s the Charli effect… can’t explain it. 🤷♂️😆
