Lana hasn’t won a single grammy and it is crazy to me. When Norman fucking Rockwell didn’t win the album of the year although nominated I literally cried for days and it still pops up in my head now and then. Lana deserves the world and the fact that she hasn’t been given a grammy given her impact i think its just so sad

It’s called “Pretty When You Cry” because that’s what one of Lana’s boyfriends said to her instead of comforting her. She’s waiting on him to come through and change and comfort her for once, but he never does
I would say that lana is always one step ahead of the culture. Her rise was coincidentally around the same time as tumblr, and her music definitely propelled the “aesthetic” vibes that people started going for! And she was having so much fun with the critics at the time, making songs like sad girl, fmwuttt, and pwuc, and singing them with a straight face 😂

Omg while there aren’t that many comments here I have to say something First of all, I appreciate you listening to us so much. Your attention to making sure you cover bonus songs and music videos that we suggest is so special! I’ve been listening to Lana since I was in 8th/9th grade in 2012. It’s been such an amazing journey and she’s everything to me. My favorite songs of all time ever are Cruel World & Is This Happiness which I feel like says so much about who I am. I think for us super fans, Lana provided us with an outlet to see an aesthetic and art we all already had inside of us, but she is creative and talented enough to bring it to life lol. I’ve never connected with anything more.
i think you will love honeymoon it’s a totally different vibe! very cinematic and slower. it’s that album that you don’t always understand on first listen, but then it starts to grow on you! at first i wasn’t really feeling it but now it’s my fav album of all time.
ultraviolence is simply a really courageous, brave 2nd album for a singer lol i mean she had the BALLS to do it. simply for that, it's iconic. i'm sorry but it just is. love it.
Love your reactions so much! You're totally right about Fucked my way up to the Top - it's satirical, about how she was perceived. She wasn't taken seriously as an artist and a lot of people assumed she only got where she was by sleeping her way up to the top, which isn't true because she literally worked her ass off for like 8 years singing in New York clubs before she got signed. There's a pretty infamous quote from her saying "I've slept with a lot of guys in the industry, but none of them helped me get my career. Which is annoying." Which is a typical Lana quote lol - she can be very wry and funny sometimes. She's been chronically misunderstood and unfairly labelled by critics throughout her whole career and is only now starting to get the true critical recognition and appreciation she's deserved from the start. And no, she's never won a Grammy (travesty!) but has been nominated and robbed of Album of the Year several times! It's looking like she may finally get AOTY for her latest record (and absolutely should), but she's deserved it so many times.
Girl, don’t let others rush you, enjoy every album and every moment. Lana albums have to be digested slowly. You’re amazing and thank you, only reason why I don’t delete this app ❤
To me, in Old Money, it's about her leaving New York and moving on and trying her life on the west Coast. Saying "I will never forget these memories I have of being there, and will be there if you ever need me, but i need to move on and grow, and try something else."
“He hit me and it felt like a kiss” is such a powerful line. It’s actually the title of a song by The Crystals from the 60s. Lana’s vocal delivery in Ultraviolence is pure perfection and it tugs at my heartstrings every time. 😢
i love how you analyze her albums the way they're supposed to be listened to. that aspect of your album reactions is what makes you unique to other channel's reactions to albums. lana is my favorite artist of all time and you are doing her the justice she deserves!! thanks for this :)
literally can't wait for honeymoon. lemme be honest: people say "oh you're not ready for ultraviolence" but it's because ultraviolence is brutal. the reality is that honeymoon is WAY more sadder, just less brutal and in between the lines 😍😍😭😍😭😍
"I have nothing left to live for ever since I found my fame" "I will never sing again" "Ever since my baby went away, it's been the blackest day" I 100% agree, if you look at Lana's discography as one continuous story Honeymoon is definitely the lowest and darkest point, followed by her smiling on the cover of Lust For Life
BTD is having fun with your married sugar daddy but secretly starting to feel sad about it. UV is when the relationship turns abusive and you start making excuses and stay anyways bc you're stubbornly "in love", and honeymoon is when the relationship is over and maybe you're with a new guy and you should be happy but instead you're actually more deeply depressed than ever and missing your abuser and romanticizing the past and the "honeymoon period" of the relationship. just my interpretation.
The way that I got giggly when I saw that you posted this!!! You’re one of the few UA-camrs that I’ve seen react to Lana and give your thoughts and interpretations of the songs so well. Quite literally look forward to you posting these now!!! Keep doing what you’re doing and thank you for taking in what your watchers have to say!!
it's finally hereeeeeeeee!!! Just to say thanks to cass and how much effort goes into these reaction videos. It's always great seeing people react to Lana's music, ty cass
Honestly, I think Old Money is more of one of those songs you "feel" rather than "get". You seemed too preoccupied trying to "get" it, but hopefully it'll grow on you, it's so freaking beautiful. Loved the video, though! Can't wait for Norman F* Rockwell, it's the next Lana album that's REALLY great. The ones in between are rather divisive but NFR is like... surely in every Lana's fan top 3 list.
@@belladonnakarii at least you admit people don't like it that much. Well, in my case, I loved it for a few months and I still love a few songs (The Blackest Day and Art Deco are some of my favorites from her discography), but the album wears off. It's just not a good time once you've listened to it a lot, imo. It isn't a grower, it's an "ok, some songs are nice" album and then instead of becoming better and better it just gets boring. It's also very dated (Lust for Life is even worse in this regard). Those albums don't engage me when even Blue Banisters and Chemtrails do, it's as simple as that.
@@emrah8328 whatever you silly Honeymoon stans need to convince yourselves to sleep better. Y'all better people than all of us who dislike that snooze-fest that even Lana prefers to ignore. Sure.
@@emrah8328 I agree that honeymoon and Lust For Life are great albums. I think Lust For Life is criminally underrated in the fandom. But all that being said NFR is a masterpiece. It's her magnum opus in my opinion
honeymoon is my favourite album! it’s really sophisticated in an italy, 60s, ice cream, swans, violins, and art way, but not a lot of people like it because the songs are built up a little bit differently from what a nowadays listener is used to. honeymoon is, in my opinion, REALLY deep and poetic. nearly every song has a deeper meaning and is supposed to be heard, not just listened to. i would like to beg you to find the demo of ‚the blackest day‘ on youtube and listen to it as well, cause it’s my favourite song ever! ❤️🩹
can't wait for the honeymoon reaction. it's my favorite album. the vocals, the production, the lyrics of each song, it's all perfect. i love your reactions, kisses from 🇧🇷
For the song Ultraviolence: from comments made by Lana, it seems like the song is about three different [and mostly-unrelated] things. 1. The song uses an abusive relationship as a metaphor for her relationship with alcohol, 2. An actual cult (or cultish group) she was once a part of, and 3. her appreciation for BDSM-type relationships.
I love Pretty When You Cry personally it’s one of my top 3 from this album. I think it’s because she doesn’t sing super high in most of her music so I like that it’s unique in that way and nice to hear her play with her voice. Great video!
yessss we’ve been anticipating ETA it’s worth keeping in mind the context in which this album was released. BTD and lana were heavily trashed by critics at the time of her debut, and her response was to double down on a lot of the things she was criticized for. she was criticized for romanticizing toxic relationships - makes ultraviolence. was criticized for being shallow and chasing fads - makes brooklyn baby. was criticized for the sadness and melodrama in her music - makes sad girl and pretty when you cry. i’ll always respect that lana stuck to her guns and made a record that was so sonically captivating the critics had no choice but to re-evaluate her merits as a musical artist. it’s really only in the past few years that she’s begun to be taken seriously on the level she deserves, in my opinion. also hotel california is one of her fave songs, i’m sure she’d be delighted that you mentioned it here lol
YESSS I was waiting!!! I'm certain you will love the next one, honeymoon! Btw this album was done in ONE sitting, the song Pretty When You Cry is freestyle
I've always believed that the second verse of "F*cked My Way Up To The Top" was meant for Lorde. LOL Ultraviolence is one of my favorite albums, and West Coast is definitely my jam. I AM SO GLAD YOU LOVED IT! PS; YOU'RE MY NEW FAVORITE LANA DEL REY REACTOR!!! Can't wait to see your music video reactions on this era, it will all make sense! Thank you, Cass!
The Other Woman always gives me chills when I listen to it. Really takes you to an older time. An amazing cover to an amazing song 🥰 can’t wait for more reactions!
Actually, ''The Other Woman'' is a cover of a Nina Simone song from the 60s (Honeymoon also ends with a cover of Nina Simone). And yes, there are a lot of songs sadder than Ultraviolence on her discography hahaha
yesss my favourite album by her, I was so excited for ur reaction for UV.. I loved ur previous Lana reactions and I'm sure I will enjoy this one as well! :)
black beauty still remains the second best one for me from ultraviolence (my favourite is „your girl“ but, sadly, it wasn’t released but it would be cool, if you listened to it) and i think that youll love it!! and you also said, that you hoped that there’ll be a more of a silly, delusional, and faster going song at the end of the album and you were right! florida kilos got so much critic for being that way but i think you will like it, as well!:)
It's funny to me that your less favorite songs are my favorite songs in this album lmao, it happened in born to die too, it's so funny to me, i love seeing people with different tastes than mine reacting to her albums.
Excellent review of the album! I swear, you're one of the few who get the subtleties but also don't judge too much, it's hard to find a balance. Your interpretation is stellar and totally works, I always thought it was _"When_ he calls _me,_ he's calling for me and not you," like a living in the moment thing.
Great reaction as always, I haven't finished yet but your comment about wanting a upbeat song caught my attention. Lana has a few songs like that, but they're very different from others singer's. She's usually on the slower side and when she's not, she's gonna play a little more with the instrumentals and production. I personally would recommend not expect "upbeat" on every album, but enjoy the ride and if it happens, it happens. Her earlier albums have a heavier sound and production, so if you like that sound you'll probably enjoy them more than her recent works, which also have an amazing production, but I think it's worth listening to everything, especially because she's an excellent songwriter and she gets better at every release!
In one of the earliest interviews in her career, Lana made it clear that she wasn’t interested in making music that was “just pop.” All these years later, as she’s now the industry’s most intriguing poet, Lana Del Rey creates genre-defying songs that can teach all of us something about vulnerability, human nature and society at-large.
Great reaction as always! Love your interpretations. Lots of different theories about Ultraviolence out there, but Lana has never talked about its meaning and has stopped singing it live, so I guess we'll never know. Pretty When You Cry was actually free-styled with Lana and her guitarist just bouncing off of each other! Makes it so much tougher to listen to. I don't interpret it as her romanticising her own sadness, but think it more means that her partner liked her when she was upset (particularly because of the "you" in the title. Money Power Glory and Fucked My Way Up To The Top is actually her being sarcastic - she was receiving a lot of criticism at the time and these were part of her response Also devo you didn't love Money Power Glory, but I felt the exact same way and later realised how stunning it is - hopefully a few listens later it'll hit!
I've always felt that shades of cool is from perspective of someone who's already dead (and video kinda confirms it too) and "can't break through your world" gets a whole new meaning, "praying for someone new" also
It's strange, I remember Ultraviolence (the titular track especially) was initially criticised for "romanticising domestic violence". Personally, I never felt that. Having lived with DV, I always thought it was a pretty profound song that captured the essence of being in love with someone who's mistreating you. Anyway, that's my oversharing on the Internet done for today. Thanks for the great vid Cass. I've never watched an album react before, but this was top shelf stuff. Stay brilliant ❤
I'm not sure if anyone said this but in the title track she says "I can hear violins, violins" this also could be depicted "i can hear violence, violence" she does this in lust for life in the song white Mustang with another word(s) but it's really cool but I'll let u figure that one by yourself haha x
I have been a LanaStan since 2014 and at one point every song has been on my top favorites 😂 it’s just constantly moving depending where I am in life and I was in HS in 2014 so I’ve been though a lot of changes
yessss ive been waiting girl I will be editing this comment and adding on as the video goes on lol -for the bonus tracks those are the official ones, but id love to see you do 'your girl' with it too, technically its an unreleased but its SO GOOD and was meant to be on the album, lanas has said multiple times she loves the song and wishes she had put it on -the young and beautiful mv isnt the most exciting but it is gorgeous i think youd love it -dw abt not listening to the whole song for cruel world lol i love it but always end it after the second chorus sorry not sorry -im sorry to say that there is sadder songs than ultraviolence. Wait until you get to kintsugi and fingertips. I'm not a crier and i cried a fucking river -pretty when you cry is called that because thats what he said to her and that's why she says im pretty when i cry, he likes seeing her sad. PWYC and sad girl are my favourite songs from ultraviolence lol -yes fmwttt is about what people say about her, its believed to be aimed at lorde. She also got a lot of hate for the topics she sings about so some people think 'go baby go' is her talking about other female artists, shes saying shes cleared a path for other female singers to be more free with what they sing about and shes telling them to do it -'old money' is kinda reference to her family who are old money. (she abandoned their money to live by herself in a trailer park in her late teens/early 20s) its also very interesting she talks about her fathers love but mothers glamour, in her later albums she gets more personal and talks about her mothers narcissist tendencies and lack of care for her
@@andresimmormino3084 lmao im surprised someone read all that. But yes those songs are absolutely gorgeous. The beginning instrumental of sad girl sends me to the moon
@@Cherryberryfruitt I totally agree, PWYC i love the high notes and the fragile of her voice like i do feel all the sadness of that statement is almost like she is begging him to stay, I love the sonically it is so dreamy, sweet and also heavy it sounds simple but complex but what i love the most it is the simplicity i love the bridge it is so vulnerable and heartbreaking i love/hate how relatable is with my life. This song for me is one of my favourite Lana's song and I feel weird when people don't see the beauty of this song.
Old Money is absolutely a retrospective song, looking back on times, details, and people (or lover) fondly, while also yearning for those moments with them again. I feel like it also describes a lifestyle that may seem full, lavish even, but ultimately never was fulfilling for her. She mentions her father's love was strong, but her mother more so being known for her glamour, which I interpret as her relationship with her mother was not held in the same regard as her father. She may have come front an affluent upbringing, but her life was not as ideal behind the picture-perfect, "old money", picture-perfect imagery she's describing. Whoever that person is, be it her father, or possible love interest, she would go back and do it all again with them (past or present). Definitely a song I cried to upon first listen, ESPECIALLY in the bridge and post-chorus -- the pain just seeps through those notes. So ffffucking emotive, that Lana.
I'm a new fan to Lana as well, and I'm loving watching your reactions to her albums. You're much more articulate and astute than a lot of other people I've seen in the reaction space on UA-cam. Keep up the awesome job.
Little bit of a backstory for a couple songs Ultraviolence song is supposed to describe her relationship she had with alcoholism when she was a teen. She was talking about Jim beam alcohol. But the name Jim is also a nod to a cult leader named Jim jones. Pretty when you cry was done in one take and freestyled. F***ed my way up to the top was kind of a diss track to critica and singer Lorde because many critics said she used her relationships to go up In the industry and because Lorde criticized her music and artistry then pretty much copied her sound/ aesthetic. So in that song she’s pretty much sayin yeah I did f*** my way to the top and she takes a jab at Lorde by saying “mimicking me is a fucking bore”
i don’t think i’ve seen anyone comment this yet but, Lana does come from old money she was born and raised in manhattan before she was sent off to very wealthy parents. The song is about her youth and her family and how she felt very out of place growing up. It’s such a beautiful song and makes me cry tbh.
She was born to a middle class family that got reasonably richer and her parents never really cared for her much so when she became an alcoholic she was sent off to a boarding school, then to a foster home in Spain and then off to her uncles house
to add to the other comment, her family was based in upstate new york, her father got rich selling website domains or something, so later in her life. if anything, that would be new money
@@laincoubert7236 I think old money is her still trying to have a persona to talk about more personal topics like the fact she had a sad childhood. Old money is one of the earliest songs to be recorded for ultraviolence, back when the album wasnt called ultraviolence
@@babel_UV yeah, old money is def a deep cut on ultraviolence. i personally never got why that title due to cultural differences about the concept of old vs new money, but i guess it makes sense to think of it through the lens of her persona at the time.
She says di-a-monds instead of dia-monds because it has 3 syllables. Same reason a lot of songs will mention the age seventeen because it’s the only teen age with 3 syllables
I love how much time you take to absorb the songs and pay attention to them and to articulate your thoughts! A lot of the ones you didn’t like as much are big favourites of mine. I’m eager to see how the album grows on you as I do think it could be harder to adjust to some of it especially after coming from Born to Die - I think this project really showed her seriousness as a musician and album artist, deviating away from what may have been expected or pressured to do after the Summertime Sadness success and leaning even more into an alternative image/sound. For me, Old Money is my favourite, particularly because of relating to it in my own way. The album came out at a hard time and I too was posing the questions to myself of “where did I go wrong” and “how did things take such a turn?” and the lines about her feeling alone, not understanding why and contemplating about lost youth really resonated. I also feel like so much meaning in that song is felt in its sonic qualities and emotions conveyed. Honeymoon is my favourite album as it has a sonic world that is very well thought-out and cohesive while also having differing songs and moments. Im looking forward to seeing how you react to it! ❤️
I was 17 when this album came out. This album was a huge grower for me. But honestly, I’m 26 now and still listen to this album daily. It’s so special and unique.
regarding "Fucked my way up to the top", this is what Lanapedia says about the meaning of the song: On June 9, 2014, in an interview with Grazia magazine, Del Rey said "It's about a singer who first sneered about my allegedly not authentic style but later she stole and copied it. And now she's acting like I am the art project and she the true super artist. My God and people actually believe her, she's successful! I shouldn't continue ranting, it doesn't get anywhere." In a September 2014 interview with Complex when she was asked about the song she answered "It's commentary, like, I know what you think of me, and I'm alluding to that. You know, I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry, but none of them helped me get my record deals. Which is annoying".
There is a few references on the title track Ultraviolence. She reference Jim Jones, the cult leader who made people drink poison, that is why she mention she is filled of poison. Also she reference "Hit me and feel like a Kiss", which is a song of The Crystals, from 1962.
Born to die was so amazing and it was our whole personality for a lot of us, and I remember when UV released and immediately knew my personality was going to change bc I was changed upon my first reaction but the songs kept getting better the more I listened
Cruel World is literally the perfect album start, I can't even express how much I love it, it just feels like it summarizes the whole album and the feeling it has!
She has a cover of doin time in her album NFR! 50:15 :D and also a sidenote at 1:10:23 rumor has it that this line is about Lorde, bc back then she said Lana's music wasn't a good influence to young people.
I dont know if someones already commented this but Jim is likely a reference to Jim Beam, a brand of bourbon whiskey. Keeping this in mind a lot of this album takes on the double meaning of an abusive relationship and Lanas relationship with alcohol. Lana also mentioned that she was a part of an underground sect in an interview with ‘CultNoise’ and said Jim referred to the head of this sect. This is made more clear by a couple of scrapped songs from the album like Cult Leader.

First of all, I appreciate you listening to us so much.
You are not ready for even sadder songs. I can't stop crying with her new stuff
me with fingertips, kintsugi and the grants
@@aleky_sundae98oh the grants is sad af
kintusgi is her saddest for me
she is def not ready for kintsugi lollll (she will love it so much tho
Thought the same lmao
This album is one of the best of the century. I really hope that Lana releases again a rock influenced album
When I saw her live she opened with cruel world. That opening guitar tune and those opening lyrics!! It was iconic. I absolutely lost my mind.
ultraviolence is simply a really courageous, brave 2nd album for a singer lol i mean she had the BALLS to do it. simply for that, it's iconic. i'm sorry but it just is. love it.
51:50 your reaction to west coast is representing all of us in the first listen lol
I freaking LOVE your way of listening and interpretating the songs..it makes me appreciate the story and songs so much more
that’s amazing!!!! thank you!!!
Girl, don’t let others rush you, enjoy every album and every moment. Lana albums have to be digested slowly. You’re amazing and thank you, only reason why I don’t delete this app ❤
"We're annoying about how much we love that album" literally me about every Lana album progressively more.
I highly recommend listening to her song "Once Upon a Dream" from the Maleficent soundtrack. A great cover!
To me, in Old Money, it's about her leaving New York and moving on and trying her life on the west Coast. Saying "I will never forget these memories I have of being there, and will be there if you ever need me, but i need to move on and grow, and try something else."
KEEP DOING THE LANA REVIEWS. I’m living for them.
“He hit me and it felt like a kiss” is such a powerful line. It’s actually the title of a song by The Crystals from the 60s. Lana’s vocal delivery in Ultraviolence is pure perfection and it tugs at my heartstrings every time. 😢
i love how you analyze her albums the way they're supposed to be listened to. that aspect of your album reactions is what makes you unique to other channel's reactions to albums. lana is my favorite artist of all time and you are doing her the justice she deserves!! thanks for this :)
completely agree
Well said!! Totally agree
west coast is one of lana’s known songs but it’s probably one of her best
literally can't wait for honeymoon. lemme be honest: people say "oh you're not ready for ultraviolence" but it's because ultraviolence is brutal. the reality is that honeymoon is WAY more sadder, just less brutal and in between the lines 😍😍😭😍😭😍
"I have nothing left to live for ever since I found my fame" "I will never sing again" "Ever since my baby went away, it's been the blackest day"
I 100% agree, if you look at Lana's discography as one continuous story Honeymoon is definitely the lowest and darkest point, followed by her smiling on the cover of Lust For Life
BTD is having fun with your married sugar daddy but secretly starting to feel sad about it.
@@sparklecloverfr, then lfl is her ultimately thinking about how that person ruined her (like: now all my black beaches are ruined)❤️
Honeymoon is very airy with lots of strings and vocal layers, interesting bridges. It's so underrated
it's finally hereeeeeeeee!!!
The ones in between are rather divisive but NFR is like... surely in every Lana's fan top 3 list.
honeymoon and lust for life are REALLY great albums, you just dont get them
@@emrah8328 i fucking love honeymoon, idk why ppl dont like it that mzch
It's her magnum opus in my opinion
this is a once in a lifetime album in my opinion, such greatness for a 2nd album is insane actually
honeymoon is my favourite album! it’s really sophisticated in an italy, 60s, ice cream, swans, violins, and art way, but not a lot of people like it because the songs are built up a little bit differently from what a nowadays listener is used to. honeymoon is, in my opinion, REALLY deep and poetic. nearly every song has a deeper meaning and is supposed to be heard, not just listened to. i would like to beg you to find the demo of ‚the blackest day‘ on youtube and listen to it as well, cause it’s my favourite song ever! ❤️🩹
i agree. Honeymoon is so well crafted, the production is otherworldly.
can't wait for the honeymoon reaction. it's my favorite album. the vocals, the production, the lyrics of each song, it's all perfect. i love your reactions, kisses from 🇧🇷
For the song Ultraviolence: from comments made by Lana, it seems like the song is about three different [and mostly-unrelated] things. 1. The song uses an abusive relationship as a metaphor for her relationship with alcohol, 2. An actual cult (or cultish group) she was once a part of, and 3. her appreciation for BDSM-type relationships.
When did she express appreciation for BDSM? 😮😮😮
I love Pretty When You Cry personally it’s one of my top 3 from this album. I think it’s because she doesn’t sing super high in most of her music so I like that it’s unique in that way and nice to hear her play with her voice. Great video!
I hope you also do honeymoon which is my personal favorite album from Lana, I really enjoy your analysis on the stories of the songs.
She was actually talking about Lorde in Fcked My Way Up To The Top! I love yours reactions to Lana albums!!!
Has that been confirmed anywhere? I always thought that was just a fan theory
Blue banisters & Honeymoon are her most underrated albums
But they are really great:)
yessss we’ve been anticipating
ETA it’s worth keeping in mind the context in which this album was released. BTD and lana were heavily trashed by critics at the time of her debut, and her response was to double down on a lot of the things she was criticized for. she was criticized for romanticizing toxic relationships - makes ultraviolence. was criticized for being shallow and chasing fads - makes brooklyn baby. was criticized for the sadness and melodrama in her music - makes sad girl and pretty when you cry. i’ll always respect that lana stuck to her guns and made a record that was so sonically captivating the critics had no choice but to re-evaluate her merits as a musical artist. it’s really only in the past few years that she’s begun to be taken seriously on the level she deserves, in my opinion.
also hotel california is one of her fave songs, i’m sure she’d be delighted that you mentioned it here lol
i love your approach to analysis, lana is truly a poet, so diving into it lyric by lyric really illuminates the meaning
YESSS I was waiting!!! I'm certain you will love the next one, honeymoon!
Btw this album was done in ONE sitting, the song Pretty When You Cry is freestyle
I've always believed that the second verse of "F*cked My Way Up To The Top" was meant for Lorde. LOL
Ultraviolence is one of my favorite albums, and West Coast is definitely my jam. I AM SO GLAD YOU LOVED IT!
PS; YOU'RE MY NEW FAVORITE LANA DEL REY REACTOR!!! Can't wait to see your music video reactions on this era, it will all make sense! Thank you, Cass!
Yeah shes throwing a shade to Lorde and Gaga 😂😂
Omg ur reaction to west coast made my day. One of my favs. The production and vocals are 10/10.
One of the best songs ever made
The Other Woman always gives me chills when I listen to it. Really takes you to an older time. An amazing cover to an amazing song 🥰 can’t wait for more reactions!
Fun fact the original song was by Nina Simone in the 50s!!
Thankyou - you manage to unveil so much more from these records - I didn't think I could love this album any more - but now I do xx
Actually, ''The Other Woman'' is a cover of a Nina Simone song from the 60s (Honeymoon also ends with a cover of Nina Simone).
And yes, there are a lot of songs sadder than Ultraviolence on her discography hahaha
33:29 Amy Winehouse said in one ofher interview “he hit me and it felt like a kiss”
And Lana loves Amy and it came from that
Ultraviolence has been my favourite album for a decade, I’m so glad you reacted to it
yesss my favourite album by her, I was so excited for ur reaction for UV.. I loved ur previous Lana reactions and I'm sure I will enjoy this one as well! :)
Buffy AND Lana reactions!? 😱 My favorite show and my favorite musician!!!
black beauty still remains the second best one for me from ultraviolence (my favourite is „your girl“ but, sadly, it wasn’t released but it would be cool, if you listened to it) and i think that youll love it!! and you also said, that you hoped that there’ll be a more of a silly, delusional, and faster going song at the end of the album and you were right! florida kilos got so much critic for being that way but i think you will like it, as well!:)
Pretty when you cry was freestyled btw it’s incredibly raw the fandom loves it
It's funny to me that your less favorite songs are my favorite songs in this album lmao, it happened in born to die too, it's so funny to me, i love seeing people with different tastes than mine reacting to her albums.
37:14 "I don't think there could be a more depressing song," Ride, anyone?
The Shades of Cool video takes it to the next level with those visuals. 🔥
West Coast is SO satisfying sonically!
Btw, I’m so thrilled to see you go through her discography. I can’t wait for next album 😊
Money Power Glory and Fucked My Way Up To The Top is actually her being sarcastic - she was receiving a lot of criticism at the time and these were part of her response
Also devo you didn't love Money Power Glory, but I felt the exact same way and later realised how stunning it is - hopefully a few listens later it'll hit!
Just started this vid but already so excited for the bonus tracks reaction Black Beauty and Florida Kilo girls stand UP!!!!
The Other Woman is a cover of Nina Simone’s song. There are sayings that Nina sings from the wife’s perspective, Lana sings as ‘the other woman’.
yessss ive been waiting girl
I will be editing this comment and adding on as the video goes on lol
-for the bonus tracks those are the official ones, but id love to see you do 'your girl' with it too, technically its an unreleased but its SO GOOD and was meant to be on the album, lanas has said multiple times she loves the song and wishes she had put it on
-the young and beautiful mv isnt the most exciting but it is gorgeous i think youd love it
-dw abt not listening to the whole song for cruel world lol i love it but always end it after the second chorus sorry not sorry
-im sorry to say that there is sadder songs than ultraviolence. Wait until you get to kintsugi and fingertips. I'm not a crier and i cried a fucking river
-pretty when you cry is called that because thats what he said to her and that's why she says im pretty when i cry, he likes seeing her sad. PWYC and sad girl are my favourite songs from ultraviolence lol
-yes fmwttt is about what people say about her, its believed to be aimed at lorde. She also got a lot of hate for the topics she sings about so some people think 'go baby go' is her talking about other female artists, shes saying shes cleared a path for other female singers to be more free with what they sing about and shes telling them to do it
-'old money' is kinda reference to her family who are old money. (she abandoned their money to live by herself in a trailer park in her late teens/early 20s) its also very interesting she talks about her fathers love but mothers glamour, in her later albums she gets more personal and talks about her mothers narcissist tendencies and lack of care for her
Sad girl and Pwyc are my favourites tooo
Your genuine concern for the girl in the lyrics is so adorable. 39:11 was very bestie vibes
LITERALLY JUST GOT DONE WQTCHING UR OTHER LANA reaction im
so lucky
Pretty when you cry was freestyled
I'm a new fan to Lana as well, and I'm loving watching your reactions to her albums. You're much more articulate and astute than a lot of other people I've seen in the reaction space on UA-cam. Keep up the awesome job.
West Coast was actually her 1st single for the album ! So was Shades of Cool, Ultraviolence, Brooklyn Baby after
The Great Gatsby is one of the best and most tragic stories in modern literature. Great films
Can’t wait for the honeymoon reaction!!
I just love this album. It ages like wine, and the more you listen, the more it grows in you. So vulnerable, truthful and empty at the same time.
I predict honeymoon, NFR, blue banisters and ocean Blvd to be your fav Lana albums!
West Coast is literally amazing I’m so glad you loved it
Little bit of a backstory for a couple songs
Ultraviolence song is supposed to describe her relationship she had with alcoholism when she was a teen. She was talking about Jim beam alcohol. But the name Jim is also a nod to a cult leader named Jim jones.
Pretty when you cry was done in one take and freestyled.
F***ed my way up to the top was kind of a diss track to critica and singer Lorde because many critics said she used her relationships to go up
In the industry and because Lorde criticized her music and artistry then pretty much copied her sound/ aesthetic. So in that song she’s pretty much sayin yeah I did f*** my way to the top and she takes a jab at Lorde by saying “mimicking me is a fucking bore”
Young and beautiful is the leitmotif of Great Gatsby. Like it plays multiple times throughout the film.
i don’t think i’ve seen anyone comment this yet but, Lana does come from old money she was born and raised in manhattan before she was sent off to very wealthy parents.
I've waited for thisss, love it
i loveee this channel the way you do buffy and lana reactions is amazing- like two of my favorites
It’s so special and unique.
regarding "Fucked my way up to the top", this is what Lanapedia says about the meaning of the song:
On June 9, 2014, in an interview with Grazia magazine, Del Rey said "It's about a singer who first sneered about my allegedly not authentic style but later she stole and copied it. Which is annoying".
i love how lana's still salty and sued lorde for some of her recent music lol
It's a while away but I can't wait for NFR!!!!!
Just wait till you get to experience Norman Fucking Rockwell for the first time.
