Never heard of these platforms, was born in 90 I guess that's why ! :) The games look like a lot of fun.

I can't wait to make videos for that system, but at the moment I'm busy doing videos for the NEC PC-60 and NEC PC-66. :)

Yes, those Japanse platforms are really interesting, don't you think? Many laid a foundation for modern video game franchises.

PC-88 & MSX (all models) > Commodore 64, Apple II, and IBM PC (all 8 bit models and Compatibles) COMBINED!!
See what wonders you can find if you subscribe to a UA-cam Channel that you didn’t know you were subbed to and Treasure like this appears.

Thunderforce does show background scrolling in multiple directions so it’s an absolute big shame that supermariobros special does not use any horizontal scrolling at all, they could,ve just use scrolling trough software (since the hardware doesn’t have it builtin),but it’s such a shame that supermariobros special did got an approval license from nintendo in co’operation with hudson soft.

So is the PC-88 powerful or not? We go from games like SMB Special, which are unimpressive, to games with 3D and great graphics like Star Cruiser.
Was there a revision of the PC88 that was more powerful (the same way MSX2 is more powerful than MSX). Whats going on?

Wikipedia: " The PC-8801's direct successor, the PC-8801mkII, came with a JIS level 1 kanji font ROM, a smaller case and keyboard, and one or two internal 5¼-inch 2D floppy disk drives (model 20 and 30)". However, I also think the skills of the programmers are very important in this case. You mention Star Cruiser: the developers of that game, Arsys Software, were a really talented group.

Star Cruiser intro is all pre-calculated. The location of every vertex for every frame is already known, so it's up to the PC-88 to just draw the polygons on the screen. And you can see how it even struggles to do that when there's a lot of polys on the screen because the framerate drops.
So, It’s effectively a Demo ( as in demoscene) It’s impressive but the real-time gameplay graphics aren’t anywhere near as elaborate! 😁

The graphics range from not that good to pretty nice, but i just don't like that "perforated" look... And the scrolling is bad too sometimes. I'll pass...
