This video was almost certainly taken in the Palouse Region of SE Washington state USA (perhaps south of Pullman Washington). This was typical wheat harvest in the steep rolling hills in that era. It was typical that these combine harvesters were pulled by a team of 26 - 40 horses or mules, walking 6 abreast. One or two people had the job of leveling the thrashing portion of the machine on the steep sidehills by using a large rack and pinion system mounted on either side of the machine. the stationary traction engine has been around since 1892 & the first "true" tractor didnt come along until 1913. A small one.
32 horses were the most here in old californy...
How many horsepower is the combine.
That's some serious horsepower.
Easy to see now where the term "horse-power" originated from. Still used as a measure of power to this day.
