AWESOME!! My heart is happy seeing the warmth in your house. I have been so worried about how cold it has seemed for you two. The reality is, no one should worry about you as you are so smart and resilient. You will always succeed. SO PROUD OF YOU!!!
Amazing how you made that hybrid heater. Kids your age still playing xbox or anything gaming online while you two, did a good job renovating your house. You are The jack of all trade who can do from elec to plumbing to fixing to carpentry anything. Den is so lucky woman.
Could you put a metal strap around the barrel and attatch to the wall to stabilise it better..? You really amaze me what all you can do... Every woman wishes she had a handy man like you..😊 Love you two..💞
You are brave warrior, ready for anything and totally awesome. A true genius that you can tackle anything and everything. May God bless you both and may you both have the strength to tell anyone not to be afraid. That house might have doubled it’s worth in the market. Good luck 👍
This is fabulous and you deserve to proud of being able to create this project for you and your wife and it’s beautiful burning. I never knew that ash was a great cleaner for wood stove window. Thank you for teaching this old lady a new trick.
Once again you amaze me with your skills... great to see you have more heat in your home... once your door is properly sealed you will be going outside to cool off haha...but joking aside you always find a solution to your problems.... I don't like being cold so every time I watched you and you could see your breath when indoors I always felt so bad for you... well done to another clever idea xx
A great success, I also worried about the effects of cold in a house that had not been lived in for some time and one which did have a number of gaps and holes in the roof. You are making good progress to a happy, comfortable home. It is nice to see hard work earning a reward.
I think that a thin modern barrel would work just fine. Modern barrels are often used as the fire box in many wood stoves and I have personally seen then last 20 years. That is with the fire directly in them, you are only putting hot smoke through it. great idea for a heat exchanger . Glad to see it help so much.
The temperatures in the top of the barrel of his configuration are in excess of 1000f Spalding and deterioration happens quite fast at these temperatures ideally the inside should be lined with fire brick
You two just amaze me, you are both game to try anything and figure things out. Very bright couple and it seems like they support each other amazingly well. I love your channel, thank you for the videos.
You are AMAZING couple!! Congratulations! Such an inspiration!! Bravo sas.👏👏🇬🇷keep up and wish you have a wonderful life there. I know Birgitte from when was pregnant to you D. She must be very proud!!
Do & Be Different Family When you mentioned your rocket stove modification i imagined the drum being filled with sand with a pipe running through like a tunnel. This would make a heat bank to be released back into the room when the fire goes out. Less firewood burning time.
Congratulations, this is what entrepreneur do solve problems and invent, glad your able to heat better, this is a great need as you get older you will accumulate things and improve things and look back at this and say, wow I can't believe we did that. God bless
It's awesome, but keep an eye on the top of it, that barrel bottom might be thin and its getting blasted by heat, maybe weld a plat of steel over it. Hi from Hendersonville, North Carolina BTW, Love your channel
Wow you are so talented and handy. This investigation is amazing. Bravo to both of you to be brave a persistent enough to do all these renovations yourself.
In the longterm it might be an idea to coppice cherry trees. (Or pollard to keep the leaves out of animal's reach). We did this at home for many years. The regrowth is always extremely straight and yields useful sticks and firewood. Don't coppice the tree every year, because it won't give much fruit that way. Cherry is a sublime firewood and fun for crafting too. Made an insect hotel out of a log yesterday. Love your vids!
Thank you for the idea! We actually have a cherry tree which is spreading like crazy, I cut down all the new trees growing around it as it was a jungle. But we could plant a large section in the field with cherry trees, I would like them as a wood meterial for furniture. I also need to invest in a wood chipper or make one my self as it would be a good way to burn smaller branches 🤔❤️
You guys need the russian style huge brick masonry heater.we have them here in 🇫🇮 to in really old houses.I have a smaller modern version. They are the best insurance against the cold. The more weight the better.
Well done! You can make it more efficient by giving it fresh air from the outside via a pipe. This will stop the fire sucking the warm air out of your house.
🙏❤️🇺🇲🤗😲Deivid, never seizes to amaze me, welding, cutting metal, wonderful heating system-GADS- these 2 are Rock'n❤️🤗🇺🇲 Sincerely Patty Sue Chandler-Lindquist Oct 2021
I hope that you put a reflector on your ceiling above the stove. That can really damage or even burn down your house. PLEASE INSTALL SMOKE DETECTORS!!!
This is a unbelievable idea. I heat with total wood all winter.. this spring I’m gonna definitely attempt this good idea.. The only problem I fear is obtaining a thick gage barrel. Thank you.
Yeah it works wonders! 😊❤️ The barrel is a hard one to find as the modern barrels are very thin and won't hold heat for very long. Only good thing they are very light compared to this monster! 😂
What the heck! That’s awesome! Some say to put a fan low on the floor in the coldest part of the house and blow it towards the stove. The theory is a that the cold air will be pushed to the stove low, then heated by the stove then rise and circulate back to the cold fan. Creating a convection or something like that. 🤷♂️
I've only watched a few of the videos. I'm usually good at finding really great UA-cam channels and I believe that this is another hit 🎯. Not committed just yet but very soon maybe. So much energy, and dedication great job, 👌 keep doing what you're doing. Great success, growth and prosperity for you!
You solved many mysteries for people who are looking how to save firewood- thank you! One suggestion: exhaust gas are still hot after leaving your barrel: you can weave them through house for at least 4 meters and put cob over it to create thermal mass- idea is to store thermal energy and do not start fire for two days...
I had a plan for that but it's a bit messy! For now it seams to be semi clean burning still producing some waste in the chimney but maybe 10% of what it would be without the barrel! 😀
What an ingenious idea!! I'm thrilled you 2 will be warm this winter, & Ivie! 🐈 😸 🐈⬛ I still have not found the vlog that David hurt his hand!??! Somehow, the vlogs stopped rolling in order, at the finish of the 3 part guest room series, when your Mom came for her first visit. And I can't find the vlogs around that time, it jumps to like 8mo ago?? Shit IDK??🤣🤪😅 I'll keep looking. 😁
Nice build, well done. I would probably consider placing some cement board or stone sheet on top of the barrel. I had an oil drum that reached to about 30cm below my ceiling and the surface temperature of the ceiling could easily reach 200˚C. Also, although you have a thick barrel, it is also old and rusty and it's possible the intense heat of the riser might eventually breach it. It would also give you a bit more mass for heat storage after burn-out. Enjoy your warm room!
Great idea. I too wanted to suggest a heat shield above the stove to protect the wood floor above it. To prevent any chance a breach would get out of the barrel. A stone barrier is a good idea.
Hello again dear Despina and David... I am glad to see you to renovate your new home.. I will ask David about the chimney construction,,, He put in the barrel a bid piece of stone wool.. For what reason and in which side in the barrel??? You are so happy, so hard working and optimistic. I envy both of you........
I don't think this qualifies as a "rocket stove", nor a hybrid. What you've made seems to be more of a "bell type" or "bell style" heat exchanger, attached to the top of a wood stove. That said, I imagine what you've come up with is still much more efficient than a typical wood stove installation. Beautiful, man. Keep up the good work.
Now draw in cold outside air and seal it to the air intake to the heater. The draw pulls outside air through cracks in the shell of your house. Outside air allows 30 % extra heat because your not burning heated air. The barrel will also work on its side but needs internal baffles and a removable lid. You have done well! Enjoy.
yes there was commentary on the book "Paradise Below Zero" of a winter camper cutting a hole in his floor to connect sheet metal duct up to the wood stove. Not sure how he connected the duct pipe into the stove from below though. I use a 30 degree angle stove pipe for a side exit about four feet out of the hut. The genius of the barrel on top, as he said, is it creates a J-pipe of hot air to block cold air back flow. So the internal baffle design would seem complicated on a horizontal barrel - I suppose I could add an internal baffle to my side duct pipe going off the wood stove, to block the cold air flowing back down. That's a fascinating idea! Maybe pop rivet it in and then seal the pop rivet? Have the baffle cover up half of the duct - to block the cold air coming back down? Seems like the cold air would still build up over the baffle just based on having lower pressure and more density.
Yeah need a better welder this one can't really weld sheet metal it burns through most of the times, I need a more precise welder then I will make a good one with proper pipes and setup ❤️😊
AWESOME!! My heart is happy seeing the warmth in your house. I have been so worried about how cold it has seemed for you two. The reality is, no one should worry about you as you are so smart and resilient. You will always succeed. SO PROUD OF YOU!!!

Its a pocket rocket on top of a wood stove. Great idea!
Dude im absolutely amazed at this, i now habe to convert my woodstove into a rocket stove, i know yours isnt exactly but super grest work and idea
Happy or shall I say relieved that you have a heating system now.. Good job in improving from wood to rocket stove..
This is a very nice hybrid rocketstove and it WORKS! With some modifications you can make it even better. Still, very nice job!
You are bless

You have great house now! ❤️🇲🇰
Bravo. I live in Canada. Mose of us rely upon wood stoves to get through winter 5-6 months. Never have I seen this technique 😮

Wow great stove pipe genius!
If you can get a small pipe hooked to outside air to inside your stove. This will stop the stove from pulling any cold air in under doors or windows.
Sooooooooo clever!!!!!!

Yeah, rocket stove needs a few things to be a rocket stove. L or J structure, insulation in the heat riser and some in the combustion chamber, etc.
Bravo
