Yeah, as a Kiwi I was going to say that too. But I think even Pearse didn't claim it, though. It's like many inventions. Who invented the radio? Tesla? Marconi? Who invented RADAR? Who discovered penicillin? Fleming, or the team the stabilised it and allowed it to be mass-produced?

The rights certainly were not the first with powered controlled flight - you have to add they "heavier than air" limit for them to even maybe be the first. There were no independent expert observers. Why did they go to Kitty Hawk? Maybe because there was an onshore breeze? That would invalidate the claim. Why did they use skids; they were bicycle mechanics they knew how to make wheels - could it be they used a catapult as they did years later in public flights? That would invalidate their claim. Did the 80ft flight that their own film showed wheeling to the right as it near crash landed show control? No later exact copy has ever been able to fly even with the advantage of simulators to train.

I think the "iconic photos" or "films" of their flights were taken in 1911, not 1903. And there were some more nerds trying on that this time.

Remember the old adage: two wrongs don't make a right, but two Wrights made an aircraft. 🙂

No. They don't have engine with enough power to fly. Santos Dumont have it.

This is a storytelling platform. The stories shared here are real, informative, and serve as useful starting points. Given that, they are not as bad as you claim.

@FableVox Though I'm by surprised the human interaction, still the images don't sync with the text, which looks like directly written by chatgpt. Instead of repeating these images you could choose to come on screen yourself and tell us, but that is a bridge too far I guess.

@@jacco_por We will probably decide to use static images instead! The core are the stories behind. Thank you for your constructive feedback.
